WOW those videos look fun, I really got to get out there on my fatbike! It really is insane fun to ride, I never get to ride it anywhere near enough! Got a jumper rasta fatbike, though in all honesty I haven’t actaully taken it to any jumps yet…. But you guys have inspired me to do so! I honestly can’t wait to get to the jumps now!

My Salsa Mukluk, god she’s so much fun to ride, to the point where I just can’t get enough of her ;) old pic, have changed a few bits and bobs but still the same bike, my absolute favourite, in love! <3

Yeah but the difference between 5″ and 4″ is very substantial?

Wow, Scotroutes that looks amazing! I’ve always wanted to go bikepacking on my Fatties (Mukluk and ECR!), whereabouts did you go? :)

I’m tempted but at £90 a tyre…and if you’ve got a 5incher in the front it’d be odd to have a 4incher in the back so then I’d have to buy another one

I wish there were some cheaper pedals with really big platforms, the only ones I know of are Vaults and Penthouse flats and they more than put a dent in my wallet!

What does the sonicare do? Is it like just a spinning toothbrush like the oral b’s or does it actually do something different?

Funny you mention that, literally just in the midst of installing this on my freeride bike! The whole point is so I can actually ride to faraway places. I haven’t even finished setting it up yet let alone testing if it works though! By that I mean not getting in the way or falling off! I must apologise for the picture, it just does not do the bike justice….

Peterwhite Cycles is a great resource, they have a ton of info on Dynamo lighting. I currently have the B&M Lumotec Lux U which is 90lux max with built in usb charging which is great so far on my ECR, got it from bikediscount for £90, compared to the £140 it is here in the UK. But I’ve never really used it off road so I’m not sure about that.. Of course you could always get an Exposure dynamo light and get a B&M ework usb charger which sits in series with the light and hub :)

Congrats on the bike, it looks amazing! You’ve kind of inspired me to build one again lol! Not too sure about the colour though xD but will be absolutely perfect for some winter riding! Was wondering though, you mentioned Peter, but Peter who? I was just wondering where you got the headtube from :)

Ahh so are you saying I should just get a singlespeed freewheel type hub and then run single speed on that? Because I literally cannot find a fixed 36h hub with disc mounts at all :S

I wish they would bring back the SC32 forks, I’m looking everywhere for some at the moment! They seem to be very popular as well :)

Thank you for your reply :) I’m using a Surly 1×1 with 65mm Rob’s Son rims which are 32h hole, and the weirdest thing is, I’ve been googling for an hour, and I cannnot find a single 36h fixed disc hub??? I already have hope brakes on it so I want to keep those, but I can’t find ANYTHING?? Even Surly only make the 36h hub in freewheel, not even fixed? And the downside is the Rob’s son rims only come in 65mm in 36h, and they are about £30, the next 60mm odd rim is the Marge Lite which is £130 :S

Awesome, so if I get a fixed, I can just screw on a freewheel? Sounds a bit too good to be true! Thanks for the Surly reccomendation, but a lot of people are not saying good things about them….can anyone else chip in? :)

Thanks all :) I won’t bother with that then, but alternatively, is there a way to put a freewheel on the fixed hub?

The hype is true, it really is that much fun to ride, and that alone is why you should get one! And you know you can ride them literally ANYWHERE.

Well I was getting excited about destroying the universe with my black hole creating Shiver monster fatbike, but you guys have got some good points, I haven’t even bought them yet! The craziest thing is just a few months ago I sold a practically brand new set of single crown Shivers to friggin Japan :( I’ll try and find some Mavericks then? I think I’ve found some, but the hub is a 28h and I need a 36h….Are there any reasonable hub options about? Or has anyone got one lying around in which case I will love you and give you moneyssss? xD

EDIT: Mavericks have just been sold, and not to me :( got nothing now…

Okay in my defence he did not sound like he was mucking about LOL and yeah it’s for a fatbike, surly 1×1 running 3″ tyres on 65mm rims, Shivers are the only option besides the Mavericks which are apparently really flexy? I wanted to use it for really thrashing about. I cant find any single crowns and the DCs look badass as **** anyway, and they’ll prob be quite a bit stiffer? Thanks Spacehobber! I will do that once I find a pair :)

No I don’t and I’m confused now lol. That sounds good! Is it possible to just swap the insides like that?? Even with different make and models? I mean I would’ve thought they’d use different, probably incompatible systems?

OP I’m kinda feeling the same way, and never really wanted to accept it til I saw your post! I’m 5″4 45kg and I’ve bought a medium Surly ECR which isn’t all that fun to ride, sluggish and a heck of a lot work. VikB from the mtbr forums explained it to me in a way that makes sense:
A stiff bike and a lighter less powerful rider usually ends up feeling dead/sluggish. It’s the difference between a bike that surges forward with each pedal stroke and one that seems to absorb your energy without moving the speed up as much as it should. There is no easy way to measure this, but if you compare bikes with similar components you can feel right away which ones respond well to your pedal strokes.

I’m not giving up on it though! It’s a goddamn beast. Maybe I’ll just try and grow haha

Well one costs £100 (frame) and the other probably about £1500-2000 for the frame.. But if the salsa Bucksaw is coming out in just december…and is the same price as the current salsa full suspensions….

Tell me about it Bregante! Thank you scaredypants :) and Pieto that was my inspiration! It’s amazing! But way, way, way beyond my skill level. I’ve emailed you Cynic-Al if it’s already setup for fat tyres I’ll take it!!! :D

I would if it wasn’t a hardtail and designed for 100mm forks max. Might put it on a full sus fatty I’m building though!

@Mick_r Wow fillet brazing looks even more amazing! So you don’t even have to weld the metal? Just melt the filler? That’s pretty awesome. Good idea to just start with the standard tubing. Starting off with a standard steel frame and widening it seems like the best option to start with. Thanks Mick and no worries about that, the thought counts :) I’ve been looking at full suspension frames recentely and I’ve decided if that you’re gonna go, you might as well go all the way. And holy shit do they look like fun.

@Retrodirect, I’m not sure what slip brazes are! I’m actually researching it, and it really is pretty amazing! http://www.aws.org/wj/amwelder/9-00/fundamentals.html And no! I haven’t done anything like this before lol :)

@bencooper Well they were something that made this all seem so much easier in my mind, despite the limiting angles, but fillet brazing opens up so many more possibilities!

Thanks for the advice :) I’ll try and find a short travel fork then… I really want some suspension to rip through everything!
