A newer model Toyota Previa sounds like a fantastic idea, they are very big inside and very cosy and comfortable too! And @Olly, you’re in the Seychelles? You lucky bastard! What are you doing on here then?!

£250 for an 853 frame is a bargain, wish they had a plus sized frame!

Maxxis Grifter comes in 2.5″ and isn’t that heavy either, though that may be too big!

    @Scruffy is that a fox fork I see? :D
and Stato you have to tell us how you got a frame from the US! As far as I know they don’t ship to the uk due to distribution agreements or something?

Thanks Jonjon, it’s on there! Unfortately it doesn’t seem to be in the liquidation sale, but at £150 it’s already pretty darn cheap!

And no worries Lester, thanks anyway (: and I’m not “allowed” on the fat bike forums due to being under 18 (17)! The most annoying thing is I love fatbikes so much, I have 3 already!

What do you guys think of the new Longitude vs the Tarn?

Shimano Alfine. No other one single speed tensioner comes close imo. Apart from the obvious £50+ ones, the Shimano one is like £12

The Alpkit LoveMud ones at £200 look like great value and the rims are very similar to scrapers!

Rusty Spanner what do you mean there won’t be anymore?? These look like a salsa fargo at £500 less, £350 for the frameset is a bargain! I have an ECR else I would get one already! But I really want a 650b+ bike after riding one, doubt they’d fit in this though! :(

@Bedmaker, finally someone agrees with me! I honestly find my full fat much better and more fun to ride overall. Custom steel frame soundsd awesome, have you got a picture? Would love to see! This thread really needs more pictures…

Is that a rabbit hole you’ve got on your Moonlander Motorman? I thought the offset was too much on the Moonlander to lace them properly?!! You’re giving me ideas hehe

@Letmetalktomark, I have the Vapour 35s which are 35 external (which is pretty much irrelevant right?) and 30mm internal! And hehe the Dually’s look good but Scrapers are only £5 more each…this is getting annoying now haha

@STATO it actually doesn’t seem so bad though when you put it that way! And I’m still confused as heck. Think I might just get another Vapour for £50 then upgrade later if I see the need? (:

edit: oh my god I DID NOT SEE THOSE
edit 2: it turns out they’re not availible til march the 31st!
edit 3 : they’re actually £5 cheaper than my 35s weirdly enough but they weigh over 200g more

@Letmetalktomark let us in on what bikes you’ve got then! I’m really curious!

I’ve an ECR 3″, a Moonlander 4.7″ and a Salsa Mukluk 4″ and the Moonlander is easily my favourite. I honestly don’t find the ECR can even compare offroad, as much as I want it to!

@Letmetalktomark you’ve made me even more confused now! the Vapours will cost me another £50 and the scrapers will cost £230, I just wonder if it’s worth it

@STATO ohhh! My bad, and wow that’s good news then I guess! Thank you for explaining it to me (: I thought the BB drop was one of the biggest issues of the ECR and just accepted it couldn’t run standard tyres without ever really trying them properly, stupid of me, I know! Guess I should give normal tyres another go then! Ad that makes sense, so the contact patch of the tyre is really defined by the rim width?

Thanks for the advice, letmetalktomark, is there really that much difference between 50mm and 40mm? I really like the Scrapers and the Velocities are much harder to get so would probably go with those!

@Stato, the thing is the 80mm drop is with the 3″ tyres, without it would be about an inch lower right?
and sorry but I don’t agree, I think it makes sense. note I’m running them on relatively high pressures. The smaller rim causes the tyre to become so much more rounded and twitchy as well, which I’m pretty sure is due to less contact with the ground. I did a rough paint sketch but this is how I see it, with the second one being a normal sized rim, obviously they’re not that straight but you get the point: http://imgur.com/i6O2n7d

Thanks for the input, think I should try it again! And I was going to get either another new set (Scrapers) or just get another Vapour. Though having non 29er plus tyres kinda defeats the point of the ECR and they are so much fun! Still confused haha

I’d imagine the weight difference will make the wheel feel a bit twitchier, but I reckon if you’re halving the weight (almost) you’ll see benefits that outweigh the issue?.

That’s the problem, I’m really not sure which one it is! It just feels a LOT skinnier, not like a fatbike anymore. It’s a shame because I thought the rim was perfect, so confused at what to do now. Think I’m going to just have to save up for Scrapers

Depends if the planted feel is coming from a firm tyre and predictable steering, or the calming, cushiony feel from lower pressures and a bigger contact patch.

If the twitchiness you’re feeling now is because the tyre is more rounded on the narrower rim, bit more tippy, side to side, dropping a bit of pressure might counteract that. You know better than me what you’re feeling though!

Another option could be getting some 2.35 Big Apples for the vapours, and keeping the knards on the holms for off road rides.

Bit more money down, but it’d be a quicker commute on the Big Apples!

Thanks for the advice! The planted feel isn’t a draggy one from lower pressures, but more one from a big contact patch and predictable, slow(ish) steering. And I don’t have the Kris Holm front anymore, so it’s a new wheelset. I think I’d be able to return the other rim for £40. What do you guys think? Keep 30mm Vapours or change to something 50mm ish? Would really appreciate some input!

That’s the problem though Ned, I use it mainly for commuting because I love the big planted feel of it and lowering the pressures isn’t going to help I don’t think! Thanks for the advice though! (:

And Ian, that is cheeky haha! I want to go to the LBS and see what they say, odds are I’ll probably end up keeping them as I’d need to spend another £200 just for that extra 10mm per wheel  on a sidenote they’ve got a hope pro 2 evo they say I can have for £100 new, to buy? Or hold out for pro 4s for an extra £40 :D

It looks fantastic, really wanted to get a Fargo but Salsa just doubled the frameset prices, but this looks like a great option. Does anyone know what the maximum tyre clearance is? If only it could fit 29+….

Thanks for the reply Scotroutes! This is terrible news though :( I bought two of the rims too! Think I’m just going to have to rebuild the wheels again and buy another set of rims…

Where the trails ends kind of stuff, just flying down open mountains. And definetely the Tour Divide. I just want to kind of explore the world on my bike. Like go biking through south east asia, south america. Think my ECR will be up to the job? xD I’m very scared to go it alone though. I’m starting off just going further and further out from London and working from there (:

Peajay, how’s your Wednesday? Was considering building one up, only concern was long top tube, not too sure that would be comfortable for long rides (:

Not a time of year when people tend to have spare cash, not peak riding season either. Yes sounds like a nice bike and £700 seems cheap.

Those are some great points! Thank you for the input (: Never really thought about that, maybe it will sell better in the summer? Doubt the value of 26″ is going to go up though, at least not for 10 years til it becomes the next new thing haha

Have you still got the rack on that STD? Take that off and you can probably add on another £100

hehe took it off years ago :D still can’t believe I had that on there LOL.

I have too say that time of the year is against sellers, I looked at the salsa and it xs which limits the range of buyers and some of the components put me off – the bars – daughter looked at it and went no do not like the colour scheme. That said someone will like it but it is down to personal preference.

Cove I guess is in a xs or a small and 26 wheels again that market seems to be dire.
AS a fellow seller good luck.

Thank you for the kind wishes, and honesty! (: I’ve heard a lot about the spec, it’s dirt jumper spec on a fatbike really. And haha I totally understand that about the colour, that’s the main reason I love it though hehe (: Thinking of just taking 6 for it, no point waiting a months for just an extra hundred quid tbh

my guess is its a 26″. and as Jambalaya says its not the best time of year to sell but the used bike market is a tough one due to people changing to 650b and 29″ and prices for 26″ wheeled stuff has hit more or less rock bottom.

Thanks for the advice, I think you’re right. That’s exactly what the guy at my LBS said. Darn the industry and it’s changing standards(!) and what you just mentioned is why I can never buy a new bike unless it’s one I’d never want to sell, the depreciation is too much for my heart and wallet to handle! Hope you’ve got a better bike now?!

Pro tip. Put a cleverly disguised advert in the main forum. Say you don’t k ow why it’s selling, or ask what it’s worth/ how much would somebody pay. Make sure you put the full spec on too so folk know what they are buying.
    Oh. Right.

Wow you’re an unpleasant person aren’t you? I honestly don’t get what kind of life you must have to actually spend your time on here attempting to “wittily” insult me. I think you’re missing the point of life if this is what you spend your spare time doing. I honestly advise seeing a therapist.

I have a Turner 6 pack, ti spring, avalanche shock tune, Fox 36 vans with avalanche cartridge, king headset, Easton stem, Easton carbon bars, hope v2 brakes, xtr running gear, hope pro 2 evo hoops with flow rims. Simply not going to bother trying to sell it as I can’t imagine anyone offering me 4 figures for it. Let along what it’s worth to me.

Sounds like an amazing bike. I’d just ride it ;D I should probably do the same!

I’d say £700 is about right.

Thanks for the input! Thread has changed my opinion on this, a fair bit, probably will sell the mukluk and try and have some fun on the Cove! (:

    @Hummerlicious

That’s a lot for postage, ouch! How much did the rims cost you? I saw Charlie the bikemonger is selling them for just over £100 each. And I saw the BarYak things, they look fantastic! Never seen anything like them before. Oh, and how is the Exposure Revo? I have a B&M Luxos U but truth be told it’s not that good offroad, very very good on the road though! The thing that makes me weary of getting a Revo is the lack of Usb charging but I see you’ve got a Cinq? (:

I would be scared and excited too! It should be one hell of an adventure! I wish you the best of luck.

I can’t really see anything out there either! Hope you don’t mind me asking, but what makes the Travers the one for you? The thing I like the most is how short the TT is, it’s just 565mm on the small which should be very comfortable for more upright riding. Glad to hear it was worth it! (:

The Jones frame and the Jones Bars. £130 for standard ally bars? F*ck off. Really would love a frame too but my god I can’t justify that. I can get a custom titanium frame from Pact Bikes for less.

Oh no I’m terrible I scrolled down too fast :S Sorry Hummerlicious!

The Genesis Tarn actually looks fantastic thanks, looking at that now! The Longitude has a much shorter top tube though on the small size, I’m really digging that. Never had an Ally fork on a steel frame though, can’t imagine how it would ride!

@Scotroutes your Travers looks absolutely amazing, I am genuinely in awe. It looks fantastic! I love the Dually rims and the Dynamo setup! Super Jealous. Are those clamps for the bar extensions custom machined? Never seen anything like them before. The Tour Divide sounds amazing, good luck! (:

And ooh, does anyone know if there are any frame out there similar to it, as in semi fat with an adventure tint to it (short tt) but cheaper? £1500 is a bit much for me to spend on a frame. I can’t really think of any. There’s the Salsa Deadwood which is drop bar but at that price the Travers looks better value..

Thanks for the replies all, none of the others are completely made out of the reflective material which is what I really like about the Proviz. They have a newer jacket, the Proviz 360+ but it is so much! I found the 360 for £40 but the reviews say awful things about it which bother me, such as the fit being very unergonomic and the collar being iritating :(

Oh. Sorry, so you’re saying to get a U.S shop to order it for you? It’s super unfair that they always get these crazy deals on Surly stuff there. I remember they were selling last years Pugs and Moon framesets for $200!!!!!!! ):
