Thanks chaps, just as I feared. Would you replace both at the same time, or just the larger ring?

Cheers @brant. My Kaffenback is the latest version, and the Pompino is this one…

The tyre clearance is less important than the sizing issue for me of course.

I can confirm the bike was more than enough for the blue and a bit of red, and no-one died. The weather gods were kind to me too, and an awesome day was had.

Thanks chaps. The Camino has 47mm Byways running tubeless so should be alright. I’ve been around black sections on a rigid 29er, but wouldn’t fancy it on the Camino. I was hoping it’d be ok on the blue though.

Have you checked the new headset actually comes with a crown race?

Yep, it does. If it hadn’t mentioned being supplied with one I’d have been in happy ignorance :-)

Thanks all. I guess I did kind of answer my own question a bit there :-)

Thank chaps, I really appreciate the advice. Sounds pretty straightforward now :-)

Thanks @IHN – what makes the split races easier to fit?

Thanks @wwaswas – that was kind of what I was thinking. Both headsets are cartridge bearings, one is a Holdsworth Gran Sport and the new one an FSA MX. Hopefully it can stay on, because I don’t have a removal or installation tool knocking about.

Fantastic event, it was my first time doing the 130 and everything hurt. The hills were a perfect storm of frequency, length and gradient to **** you over. The weather was ace and the atmosphere even better.

My takeaways are that I need to do more hills in training, and that wine gums keep you going better than Tangfastics.

Respect to the chap that rode the fixed gear. Mental.

Thanks all, carpark it is. What time to people generally start getting there?

Thanks both, I really appreciate it. I was hoping the carpark was an option. Is that the case @Boxelder?

That’s great @whitestone, thanks. Is it generally accepted or frowned upon? I’d be gutted to get set in for the night then be moved on. I need my beauty sleep.

Thanks guys, Unior tool now ordered. Not ideal for one job but I don’t mind investing in tools because generally I’ll use them again.

Just spoken to Planet X – it a MegaEvo BB, not the GXP as I’d assumed. Need to find the tool now.

Thanks very much everyone. I thought it was me being slightly dim. I guess the next port of call is Planet X, as this BB is the one fitted when it was bought last year.

Thanks for the replies, they’re much appreciated. This is the BB in question…

The socket type tool I have for GXP BBs will go nowhere near it. I’m missing something obvious!

Thanks very much chaps I really appreciate the replies! Looks like I’ll head up earlyish Friday and try and secure a place in the car park. Fingers crossed.

That’s awesome, thanks. Was there no risk of getting shifted on? Nothing worse than being woken up and told to move.

Fantastic, thanks dude. is it easy enough to find?

@legometeorology thanks dude, they’re what I would have gone for by default but they’re just a bit too narrow for my rims.

Great – could you pm me payment details, postage etc? I’m away until tomorrow but can reply then. Thanks very much!

@djflexure apologies, only just seen your reply. Can they be run tubeless? £25 sounds great if they can, and have some miles left in them.

@epicyclo thanks for that, that’s great to know. I’d be running them tubeless so low pressures shouldn’t be an issue.

@djflexure – are they the 2.3″? How much are you looking for?

Thanks chaps, advice is much appreciated.

    @legometeorology
I’d thought of Nanos but too narrow for my rims unfortunately. Thunder Burts I’ve not come across, so will have a look thank you.

    @yourguitarhero
I’d not realised that G-One Speeds were available at that width. Do they work on road, too?

Thanks for the advice chaps. I’ve got a place fortunately, so will hopefully see some of you there. All I need to do now is get into something remotely like reasonable shape and it’ll be happy days :-)

Thanks matey, I noticed the double tracks on a lot of the videos.

When i say head down and slog on, I was talking figuratively – I’ll be keeping a look at whats coming up for sure :-)

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the advice and experiences. The fattest tyre I can wedge into my Kaffenback, by all accounts, is 35mm and the narrowest on the Sonder is 2.6″.

Unless anyone wants to buy the Kaff and I can incest in a Camino? :-)

Ace, loads for the reading there. Thanks very much!

It’s got me wondering what the terrain is mostly about though – how rough are the descents?

    oddnumber

Thanks all, the input is very much appreciated. I’m glad to see that the Kaff isn’t immediately discounted, but I think that 35mm is as much as I can squeeze in. Is it out of the question to run that narrow?

    Indeed! Damn my fat fingers.
