Mrs Oddjob is Danish and having lived here in Denmark for 5 years I think that the humour is pretty similar. We laugh at the same things, but they are generally not as much into sarchasm as we Brits.
One of the Danish jokes that made me laugh the most was a Dane who was hunting raindeer in Greenland with a Brit. They shot one and whilst gutting it, the Dane told the Brit that he should try eating the content of the stomach becuase it was considered a delicacy. The British guy reluctantly took a finger full of the stuff and ate it. He spat it out much to the amuzement of the Dane.
Brit:" you don't really eat that stuff do you?"
Dane: " no, of course not it's shit!"
That epitomised danish humour for me. Dry and funny and a bit cruel.
The Finns on the other hand are like the Yorkshiremen of the Nordics. Dry beyond belief and very funny.

His hearing is fine – selective, but functioning well (it has been checked)
I'll have a look at the book but I think he is happy, it's just me that's struggling 🙂

I am prepared to accept that it is perfectly normal for a 4 year old. I think his diet is OK and he gets a lot of exercise – if he doesn't then it is absolute hell so we make sure he is running around outside as much as possible.
He seems to be fine with having a little brother as well so maybe I just need to shut up and get on with it.
Being a parent is a pain in the ar$e, it seems to be deeply unacceptable to say it, but to be honest, at the moment I regret it more than I enjoy it.

Back to the therapist for me then…

I have wondered if he dislikes me too, but I honestly don't think that is the case. He gets really upset when I get cross with him and he enjoys it a lot when we do stuff together.
We bought him a bike in the summer which he rides without stabilisers (proud dad on that point) and I take him for a ride a couple of evenings a week. I think the problem is somewhere in the differences between my wife and I in how much discipline there should be. She is only interested in distracting him from whatever naughty things he was doing and moving onto something positive meaning that there are no consequences for misbehaving. I tend to think there should be some consequences for behaving badly but then it always escalates into all out war…

Vancouver is often voted one of the best cities in the world to live in and I would move there in a minute.
It does rain a lot and it is not that close to Whistler, but I would certainly have a go.
I was once told that the time to decide if you want a job or not is when you have an offer on the table so go for it and see what happens.
I think there is a reasonable amount of basic climate etc info on Wikipedia if you are interested

" I don't know what the jacket model numbers are because I don't work in IT "

I do work in IT and I don't know them either 😉

I would say that anything made from Gore Windstopper would be a good place to start. There are probably other fabrics that do the same, but I' have had good experiences with that. I think the fabric is more important than the make. I think Assos have something similar call Airblock, but that is going to cost a bomb, as is Rapha but it may be worth the investment in the long term if you're going to use it a lot.

Bin the bloody thing or give it away. Life is too short to waste time on that sort of thing IMHO
I think Cotic are also fine to not do anything on the warranty either but perhaps I am just being a miserable git today

I think the proper ones are rather expensive otherwise they're just normal lights. I have one (that was a gift from the in-laws who were sick of seeing my miserable face all winter) from a norwegian company that seems to do the job. My cousin has been impressed with the Philips alarm clock that gradually lightens the room and seems to help him with shift working.

Find a niche and aim at that. Better still, create a niche and dominate it.

Oooh one of my favourite things in the world. I live outside the UK so miss BBC radio a lot.
    Favourites:
Friday evening comedy from radio4 (The news quiz etc)
Mark Kermode film reviews with Simon Mayo
    Simon Mayo book reviews
Prarie home companion – News from Lake Woebegon (American NPR)
    Excess Baggage – Radio 4
The Spokesmen (US bike industry chat)
Jonathon Ross Radio 2 (gone off it a lot but still subscribe for times of need)
There are others, but I often don't listen to them

I think 4 or 5 should be enough. I have a super duper road bike, winter road bike, mountain bike (hard tail 29er in my case) and a RoadRat for hacking, bit of off road mucking about. If I lived somewhere else I may justify a full susser and that should be enough. Oh, and maybe a single speed road bike and a single speed mountainbike.
    Is that enough?

THey've all been brainwashed. If you are with a local, you end up waiting the other side of the road anyway so at some point you begin to comply as well. I think there is a fine, but there are only about 10 policemen in the whole country

Bought a bugaboo (horrified at the price) and have not regretted it at all. It has done 2 kids and a lot of miles, on and off planes, in and out of the car without a great deal of care and it is still going strong. I had to buy a new set of wheels for £50 at some point, but now it looks like new and I think I'll be able to sell it on as well.
If you are planning on having another kid later, I think it would be a good investment.
BTW the wheels died because they did a lot of miles in salty scandinavian winter walking, not just the odd trip out. I would guess it had covered a few hundred miles when they gave up.

I think we are paying for the cost of subsidising the public transport and that is OK to a degree, but I guess you've noticed how much income tax you are paying too. When we lived in CPH we had no car either so that was cool, now we have kids (including a sick one) and so we get something back for our money too.
I've grown to like the place more, at the end of the day, you and I have chosen to live here and are free to leave whenever we want.

BTW do you fancy a ride sometime (it would have to be on the road, my MTB only has one wheel at the moment)

Noma is fantastic and very expensive. If someone else is paying and it is not taking liberties then go for it.

I get really pi$$ed off that everyone talks about how great it is that Danes cycle everywhere without mentioning the cost of car ownership here. Don't get me wrong, I think it is great that we all cycle everywhere, but the truth of the matter is that cars cost at least twice as much to buy as in the rest of Europe and the yearly road tax etc is very high too meaning that most families can only afford (or want to afford) 1 car. This means that we use public transport (which is very good and affordable thankfully) and bikes.

I suspect though that if you asked 1000 people on a cold, dark, wet January if they would rather be in a car and the answer would be yes.

As an example of the car costs, we have a 3 year old Mazda 6 that cost approx £23 000 last year and the annual road tax is about £800 the insurance is also expensive (because accidents cost a lot – expensive labour and cars…). As a general rule there is 105% tax on cars up to £5500 then 180% on the rest meaning that a basic Ford Focus costs >£20 000.

So by all means see the good parts of Denmark that make it bike friendly – the bike paths, trains, metro and busses, but bear in mind that we are heavily encouraged to use them by making the alternative prohibitively expensive.

Read the being jobless thread if you think it sucks not getting the new car!
You might get to like the train, time to read, relax etc instead of getting stressed by the other tw#ts on the road

There are some hills but certainly no mountains and the hills are not exactly big although it depends a bit on where you are. The area around Vejle seems nice but I am in the middle of Sjæland so there aren't that many options

I have the standard seatpost that came with the frame on both the soloist and the R3SL. Both plenty long enough (actually I should check the soloist)
Both frames are 61cm so I guess they allow for us tall people.

If you came here from Holland then I totally understand your euphoria. I never ever want to live there (people, food, weather landscape, trafic etc etc)
I live in Ringsted but my office is over looking the new beach on Amager. I did some work on Toldbodgade on a project for your company a couple of years ago. I think it is still running…

Lots of places to eat in the centre but I would look further than Nyhavn (the tourist bit by the water) for eating. Have a walk around the centre and see the parliament building, palace, castle etc. A good way to see the city is from the water bus (buy a clip ticket for the metro, bus and water bus) and then take it up and down. You can have a look at the new(ish) opera house as well.
It's a nice quietish city so just stoll around and enjoy the scnery. I wouldn't bother paying to go into Tivoli garden – it's a crap alton towers.
Have fun and let me know if you want any more insider info.

The Ristretto version of Nepresso is actually pretty good and the convenience outweighs to the loss of other sensory stimulants during the making of the drink. We don't drink that much coffee and the fact that the pods keep for a few months is a big plus along with the tiny footprint of the machine in our rather small kitchen.
