I have a moon watch (Speedmaster Professional) but I can't post any pics of it at the moment.
My brother has a Seamaster and my dad the Planet Ocean.
On reflection, I wish I had bought the PO because the plastic crystal on the Speedmaster is a liability.
I'll give it to me son in 15years or so and get something else 🙂

Slight hijack here, but an online friend of mine in the US is also publishing an online magazine called XXC that I think is really good.

    Have a look at xxcmag.com

We live in Denmark so I am not sure it would help.
We ended up seeing someone in Manchester about his feet when they messed it up here, but I don't think we have an option for this becuase the whole process of diagnosis etc is not something that can be done in passing.

Does your son still need any treatment or help with his bowels now or was it business as usual once he had recovered from the operation?

We are more worried about the long term affects than the actual operation itself.

ODesn't sound like it will be keyhole surgery from what we were told. He is quite old for this though, normally they treat it withing the first few months.

    Again sorry for the hijack

    Yes it is Hirschsrpungs disease.
We met the surgeon yesterday so we know a bit more about the operation now.
In the last month he has had a cleft palate operation and an undescended testcicle put in place (that looked like the definition of uncompfortable to say the least – stitches in your scrote anyone?)
That added to the fact that he was born with club feet means that the little guy has seen more white coats that most in his first 15 months.
The great thing is that he is a happy little chap and cheers us all up even with all of the stuff being done to him 🙂

As said above – you always need a new bike, but I think you need to be looking at something more expensive and glamorous than that.

If it's just fantasy internet shopping then you really should be aiming higher.
    Pinarello
    Colnago
    Cervelo
    Custom Ti
    and so on.

Then when you do get around to buying the planet X (I wouldn't by the way) then you can feel as though you are saving lots of money compared with what you had been considering 🙂

This need thing is mostly perception…

    Dreadful week at work
Trying to sort out what to do about when/how we will deal with Jnr being in hospital etc.

Looking better now though, more details about the op and work getting sorted out again

I can't see that he has achieved anything but on the other hand, he has pointed the US in the right direction after Bush and I can't think of anyone else who has done anything else more concrete.

Who should have won it then?

I don't know if I am too late with this one, but I'd like some 355s 29er rims on pro 2s.
No idea if this is possible…

I really like the racing ralphs for more summer riding and use kenda navegals in the winter.
I have the one one wheels and they are OK, but my rear hub has now died after what I consider to be too short a period of time so I have made a final decision not to buy any more on-one wheels, that is the second dissapointment I've had with them.
I have been considering the XT ones at CRC but I am a bit broke at the moment so just using the road bike until I decide what to do.
For the price though, the on-ones were a great way to get the bike running, i just wish they had lasted longer.

Do you know when the redundancies will be announced?
To certain extent I would follow your gut instinct, if he really wants you then he may be prepared to wait if you could manage the time carefully, you could wait and see if you are being let go before making the final call.
I would also want to be sure that the small operations in the UK are making money otherwise the new job may prove to be short lived anyway.

A lot and I don't want to think about it all really
    Bikes:
    Scott mtb £750
    Marin mount vision £1200
    Trek 2200 Road bike £1200
Cannondale R3000 Road bike £1800 (bargain!)
    Cannondale Jekyll (2nd hand) £400
    Inbred £500 ish
    Cervelo R3SL £3700
    Salsla Mamasita £1500
    Pimpino £600 (I think)
    Road rat £500 ish
Cervelo soloist (built with bits off C'dale) £600
Grand total of £13500 ignoring clothes, shoes, wheels etc. I have sold some of them and 2 were bought by the insurance company so the net is probably about £8000… 😐

    Sorry about the double post…

This is over 12 years though but I still hope my wife doesn't see it.

The work culture in Denmark is flexible to fit around the family since most families have 2 full time working parents and child care closes at 5. That means that we can and have to work from home sometimes. The problem comes when you spend all of your time at home either dealing with kids or working and have no time off at all.
My previous job ended up with me working every hour of the day that I wasn't asleep or feeding/bathing/putting to bed the kids so in the end I left (there were a bunch of other things too).
Now I have enough flexibility that I do long hours when needed and take some time back when there is less to do. I'm happy with that, there is mutual respect and trust with my employer that (other than our time registration) we are trusted to manage our own time.

Actually seeing that a £7k watch doesn't make you happier, I am a little relieved that I saved myself £5k by finding that out with my Omega.

I think I'll give it to me son when he is 18 or 21 or graduates or something which means that I will have to buy another one for the other son and then something nice for myself as well. At least I have a 15+ years to find something and some money for it.

I sort of collect watches, however, finances are dicating that this is something of a slow process at the moment.
Last purchase was about 10 months ago and somehow it seems to have fulfilled all of my needs for the time being despite being reasonably cheap.
Turns out that a £2000 Omega doesn't make you any happier after all 🙄

I have developed a problem with the model cars from the Disney Cars film. I started buying them for my 3 year old and now there are some that are mine and some that are his. He and his little bro play with them all so there is no worry about the treatment, but I just get a kick out of finding the unusual ones.

If it is only for 1 year, have a very careful think about how much you are going to lose on the Aygo, how much you may have to spend on MOTs and repairs to an older car and how much more you are going to hae to find to replace the Aygo in a year. I can't believe that it's going to add up unless I have totally misunderstood the situation

List I looked at puts Sweden 15th

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

Norway is up at 3 but that is probably becuase they are not in the EU and it saves them a lot of money that they are getting from oil

Denmark is the highest taxed in the world and Sweden second. Danmark overtook them last year.

What is standard of living defined as?
We have good health care, education, care for the elderly etc. We don't have as many super rich people as far as I can see and in general a lower disposable income. There are a lot of people in Denmark who live a very frugal life, on a global scale they are well off, they have what they need, but there is not much money for luxury items like £3k mountain bikes…
I'm not complaining about it, it is nice here (dull but that's another story) but there is a massive difference in attitude towards tax and the state compared with the UK

I just checked here and I can see Denmark is 16th and UK is 19th so not a big difference

Wages are somewhat higher, but so is the cost of living. All in all I think we have less spending power but I don't have th figures to hand to confirm this (I'll check)
When I moved here I got a 20% pay increase (it was a promotion of sorts as well) and my net income fell by 15%. Cost of living is about 20% higher than the UK in my experience.

It's funny that everyone admires the Scandinavian model but I can't see a party getting elected on a promise to raise taxes to >50% on everything you earn, 25% VAT on everything you buy and 180% on cars (not to mention the other endless list of taxes) that is required to pay for the state care that we get in Scandinavia.

Do any of you really think for a minute that you'd vote for a party that wanted to effectivelu double your tax burdon?

BTW Norway doesn't pay for their welfare from oil revenue, it is primarily tax income like the rest of the Nordics.

I watched that video with my (Danish) Mrs and she didn't laugh at all. There was another clip on youtube where one news reader asked another when he had last had an erection (I think he meant to ask something else) and that did get a giggle. Perhaps we're not that different afterall.
