Friend of mine was a buyer for a house builder and they always bought Bosch simply because they never went wrong and it saved him lots of hassle getting them fixed.
IIRC Miele are the ONLY ones that have a metal drum rather than a plastic one and that is supposed to make them ace and does make them 50-500% more expensive.

Drove a 19 year old Talbot horizon to Grenoble, used it there for a year and then drove it back with 2 bikes on the roof. No problems. If it breaks down, get it fixed 🙂

Cannondale usually do some pretty big stuff. I am 6'3" ish and ride an XL Salsa Mamasita and I suspect it wouldn't be big enough for you but I have a 63cm Cannondale road bike that is too big for me. (do you want to buy the frame? :-))

I am racing in Denmark in cat D and ours are minimum 65km and mac 95 km IIRC. after about 80km I'm hanging although I was 3rd last week in a short introductory race of 57km 🙂

I'm racing on a compact at the moment, it's fine but then I'm bottom category and I can easily foresee a time when I am spinning out on a slight decline with a tail wind when the group picks up speed. I think I'm OK up to about 50kph with the 50 and as I recall from my last bike when I live in some hills, I spin out at about 65kph on a 53.

I have a normal crank set, I just don't have the tools to change it so I need to get to the LBS

Nice. I really like the noise that those tuning fork watches make too. I have one of these, but it is a nightmare getting batteries for it and they only last a few months. Hence it sits in a drawer and I wear something else.

50 pairs seems about right around here if I coun't running shoes etc.

Agree with the smile and nod approach unless you want to be single 😈

Hadn't seen the shutt stuff before, it looks pretty nice and good prices too. Having said that, I just got 2 parcels from Rapha this morning so Mrs Oddjob will go even more mental if I spend any more money on cycling gear. (She doesn't know about the new club kit that is heading my way in a week or two either – I'll have to hide that:-))

I have noticed recently that many Rapha items are in fact not that much more expensive than other brands (to my amazement) when you are comparing with the likes of Assos and the top end Pearl Izumi, Gore etc.
I personally think it is really good stuff and looks good too. I have decided to have a bit less gear, but get better stuff so now I more or less only buy Rapha.

I know that probably means that most people here will think I'm a dick, but to be honest, it makes more sense to wear Rapha kit than it does to be riding my Cervelo R3SL and I even wear it mountain biking 🙂

    Go on, flame me 🙂

I have BB7s on my road rat and in your position I would fit Canti's without hesitiation.
Now new wheels, and easier/cheaper to run. Get through pads like nobodies business with the BB7s and I am sure I set them up correctly. I just think they are heavy and overkill for road/fire road use.

That yellow rang rover is GAY!

White cars can be OK, it depends on the car IMO

I am completely content with my 4 at the moment.

    HT 29er
    road race bike
    road trainer/winter bike
Road Rat for winter messing, forest roads and stuff.

Perfect for now, but I'm sure to "need" something different within 12 months…

I would dare to say that anyone who says that there isn't a difference between a £100 M&S suit and a >£300 deisgned suit hasn't owned both.

Personally, I've had some pretty good M&S suits for every day wear and when I'm travelling and I rather like the fit of Dax suits for more formal occaisions.

Mt brother had one of those problems. He called it the £150 light. You can guess why. I think he got rid of the car as a result and swears never to buy another VW

I agree with Marge. I don't live there or pay taxes there so why should I have the right to vote?

What really gets my goat though is that I have lived in Denmark for 5 years, pay taxes etc but can't vote except in local and EU elections 😡

I have BB7 and find them a pain to set up properly, they eat brake pads as well. Having said that I suppose it's better than getting through a set of rims each winter…
Given my time again I'd get cantis for my road rat though

Avoid the southern european brands as they are made for midgets.

Blimey this makes me feel lucky.

My parents divorced when I was 10, now my dad lives in the US and I live in Denmark so I don't see them as often as I would like and in the last year my dad has left his 2nd wife and is now married to someone only 2 years older than me. I am apparently getting a new sister in a couple of months.

Compared to all the abusive stuff though, this all seems normal and almost pleasant!

I got my racing ralphs on without too much bother. Oddly enough they were almost falling off the on-one rims that I had before. I guess that was why they were states as not suitable for tubeless.

I think the rubber rim strip is part of the problem, but I can't see a way around that.

I have a send of Kendas that I can't get close to fitting on my 29" Stans arcxh rims. It's not technique, there is 1cm gap and I simply cant get them close.

My 65 year old father in law has done a sportif in Norway from Trondheim (?) to Olso which is 550KM (340 miles)

He has done it 3 or 4 times and usually takes about 22 hours. This is on open roads and there is a pretty big altitude gain in the middle so I would guess that 350 miles is a reasonabl guess.

I would expect the last 12 hours to be some of the more miserable hours of your life though…

I bought myself a new speedmaster a few years ago and it is a lovely watch, but think carefully how/when you will wear it because the plastic crystal scratches very very easily.
I am not sure, but I think I would get a Planet Ocean or a Speedy with a saphire crystal if I was buying it tomorrow.

Stayed in Vaujany last year. There were plenty of places. If you drive down in the morning you won't have to ride back up at the end of the day 🙂

I'm using a roadrat for that too. I have 1×9 with a 50tooth compact road chainset, XT cassette and rear mech. BB7 brakes and an ultegra STI lever with another brake lever on the other side.
I got sick of the hassle of changing flats with the stupid dropout arrangement so I bought some stupidly heavy 37mm Continental Contact Something or other tyres with a 1 year no-flat garuntee which are bomb proof and I use it for witner riding in the forest, on the roads and just about wherever I want.
The BB7s are a bit of hard work to keep working how I want them and I could do with some more grip sometimes, but in general it is agreat do anything bike. I even tow the kids in the trailer in the summer, but the 50tooth chainring makes it hard work now there are 2 of them 🙂

why not focus on being happy and try to be really good at enjoying being who you are[\cheese]

I think i've been through some similar thoughts (except that I know I am dynamite in the sack) and I think the important thing to focus on is being happy about being crap at stuff. It is, after all, better than not doing anything and therefore not even being good enough to be crap.
