    I am 6’3″ and a bit and I have a 61cm R3SL and a 61cm S1 as well.

Great bikes, but everyone here is right, you need to get fitted, especially if you are dropping Cervelo sort of cash on it.

We’re trying to sell our house and it is a constant battle to keep the place tidy.

If there are anything like me, the only time the house will be tidy is when they have moved out.

I went back to HT and like it a lot, but 2 years later I am starting to consider something like a soft tail or XC FS to take some of the beatings instead of my back.

This is only really prompted by some back problems this year though

As soon as it has been mentioned on here, it ceases to be niche.

The frightening thing is that bamboo is just too mainstream these days 😉

How did you get the belt through the frame?

The only one I can see is Spot Brand and I can’t see an easy or affordable way to get my hands on one of those…

It’s my experience of living in Denmark for 5 years and an old school friend of mine has a similar opinion. She lives in CPH and her parents are Indian so it is first hand.

I am not talking about hatred or violence, just mistrust and an unwillingness to completely accept coloured people as part of the population. I think you may not have noticed it as a visitor, but living and working in the country is a different matter.

Totally agree with DrJ about the dangers of living in CPH. There are a coupe of incidents a year that the media make a fuss about and the right wing (for Denmark) politicians balme on the “darkies”

This must be one of the safest countries in Europe and I expect that Norway is much the same. I was not refering to crime or danger with relation to racism. It is just that there is an underlying problem that Scandinavians don’t seem to trust people who don’t look like themselves. It amazes me but they still refer to things like 2nd and 3rd generation imigrants as causing problems.

Sorry guys, they are Danes if their parents were born in Denmark and they only speak Danish (and English of course :-))

I don’t know exactly how to put this, but Scandinavia is not the most rcailly tolerent place on earth.

I don’t really want to go into details for fear of being flamed, but try to find out if there are other Indians you can speak to in a similar situation and see how they have settled into the place…

I live in Denmark and can confirm that you earn a fortune and then give it all to the government and spend what little is left in the very poor and very overpriced supermarkets.

As far as I know, the tax is a little lower in Norway, but the supermarkets are even worse and more expensive.

If you can stand the never endingly dark and cold winter, it seems like an awsome place to live. However, I didn note that in my father-in-laws Norwegian cycling magazine, they were all wearing winter gear all through the summer months…

Even when it’s not that cold in real terms (meaning 15-20 C) you will still get really cold between laps. You need plenty or warm clothes, sleeping bags and hot drinks.

    It’ll be tough but fun…

The mortgage will be about 3,5 times our joint income.

We’re looking at the sums at the moment, but it is starting to look like a true middle class dilema – are we prepared to sacrifice the skiing holiday when we need to replace the car.

    I’m almost ashamed of myself.

Agree that it would be nice to live in the peak district, but if you need to get into the city then you will spend hours and hours commuting

Heaton Mersey, Heaton Moor were really nice. Didsbury is great, but rather pricy.

I did this once ( a long time ago) and it was quite easy. Go to a decent car parts shop and either take the old one or measure it. They cut it to lenght and put the fittings on then you bend it to shape yourself as you fit it.

If I could do it, then anyone can!

    30 year mortgage I think.

LHS – do you earn a lot of money or not. I suppose it is easier to spend 50% of your income on your mortgage if there is still £5000 left over…

We have 2 young kids and are in our mid 30s. but we both have good jobs and earn reasonable money (OK we both have MBAs and our joint income is sufficient)

I think it is more a question of deciding to give up the yearly skiing holiday and have slightly older cars in return for a bigger house.

I think we can more or less afford it, but our spare income will be dminished considerably meaning compromised holidays, bikes and general fun, but on the other hand, the money will be going into something rather than being frittered away.

My concern is more when we need to buy a new car or is there is an unexpected event that requires money.

    I suppose it’s our decision

BofE rates are not relevent because we can get a 4% fixed rate mortgage and as I said, we live in Denmark.
Extra costs will not be too much, heating etc will be lower as it is better insulated and newer (seller has to state heating costs etc over last year and they are 30% lower than our current house)

If one of us lost our job we’d be in trouble but I think we are reasonably safe.

Think long and hard about flat tyres in the dark when you have full mudguards fitted.

I'd go with a more standard CX bike – whichever of them floats your boat.

I suppose the frame was up to it, but the rest of the components weren't. To be honest, I thnk I'd swap the roadrat back for a pompino given the option, but at the moment I'd really like a Specialized crosser – geared or SS.

I bought the first generation from on-one and it came with 23mm tyres. I think it was safe to assume that they were intended for road use 😕

When I took it off road, the wheels were not up to the job (spokes snapping all the time), the riding position was too low at the front and the chain came off all the time on the bumps

Maybe the later generations were/are better.

Immediately after finishing my MBA I was young and ambitious, in an interview for an apparetly interesting job I asked the interview panel if there were any development or promotional opportunities in the job.

The answer was "no, not really"

    OK – at least that's honest…

Had a Pompino as a winter trainer occaisional commuter. Got rid of it because the chainline was out of what and it dropped the chain, the wheels were really badly built and the steerer was cut and the stem slammed down by the guys at on-one. I lived with it for about 5 years then got rid of it for a roadrat.
Roadrat is OK but heavy. The fork is fugly abd the dropouts are a nightmare when running gears if you get a rear flat especially if you run mudguards.
I'd like to get rid of it and get a normal CX bike but I can't justify it at the moment as it is just a winter trainer/ forest road bike.

My overall opinion, having owned both and as an owner of 2 road bikes and a mountain bike is that the OP is more or less correct.

Sounds like your doing a good thing that many treachers can't be arsed to do since all the red tape was put in the way.

I think it is a travesty that kids are prevented from doing anything with even a hint of risk involved these days. If you can't learn about managing risk when you are young, how are you supposed to actually deal with it when it arrises in the real world? 🙄
