Not a chance I'll be trying that tomorrow. I can ride a bike and value my life.

I would hazard a guess that this is more down to luck than judgement and that your very fast isn't relatively all that fast.

That'll be the roof just came off then.

I would say that they will have had an easier life than most forks as they have been ridden by someone who can actually ride a bike.

The alternative technique is to not see them, barrel into them at warp and straight line them landing in a bloody heap at the bottom.

Look much further ahead than you think you need to and stick your outside foot down, keeping your weight between the wheels. It's not rocket science.

Work on improving the core stabilising muscles in your back and that will help a lot.

I am looking forward to rediscovering the Pentlands.

I would not bet on you making it to that comp in any fit state to do yourself justice. You might make it to the comp and be able to play, but that is about it.

All the downhillers i know, ones that are good enough to race anyway, will whip the arse of the vast majority of riders in the fitness stakes too.

I do something called BodyAttack which is pretty good, improves the balance and coordination too. Sandwich it in between circuits and a spin class and you're away.

It's not as if it's a tough one.

I wouldnt be worrying about that at all.

I could explain further, but will not waste me time telling people something when they will not take it in. Go get a book on the subject instead of looking at wikipedia.

    Nope.

I will mention at this point that I don't care what your top few hits on google tell you about core muscles – they are wrong.

My wife agrees with me as do my colleagues.

If you are serious about reducing road casualties then much could be done
mandatory retesting every 5 years – done in some countries
Much harder driving tests including motorway driving
    Random breathalyser stops.
Much tougher enforcement of driving laws

I agree with all of that.

Obi, if you can do chin ups withour using your abs, I'd be impressed.

You must be pretty easily impressed then.

Either way rectus abdominis is not a core muscle, so why are you talking about it?

Go down to Tweedsmuir then take a left. It's around 5 miles along that road. It's around 3/4mile of roughly 20% gradient.

Sooballas – how exactly would chin ups work your core muscles?

    Obi_Twa

Strengthening your six pack muscles will do nothing for core stability. Get yourself a swiss ball and learn to sit in various positions on it, then kneeling, standing etc then build in dumbell exercises. It's good fun too.

CaptainMainwairings comment on set up has nowt to do with performance driving – it's how you're meant to set it up for normal road driving.

RestlessNative – have you discovered the joys of the Talla climb yet?

Also, I wouldn't worry about getting fitter before firing me an email. I dont really go anywhere that fast unless it's a rare day.

No change. Still 17. Or I think 16 if you have a high enough degree of disability.

Send me an email on jediknight1976@live.com if you want someone to show you some of the roads on that route nearer the innerleithen end. Be warned though – they are far from flat.

You need to get the Men In Black onto the case. http://www.mib.org.uk/. That is a serious link to an organisation that you pay money to specifically for this type of case. (Or they were a couple of years ago)

My wife went completely ape shit at BT a couple of years ago. We still get free broadband and line rental today.

You do realise that you are meant to lean forward in your seat when you are at a t-junction dont you? So that you can see out of the junction. My wife apparently complains of the same issue with the A3, she is 5ft3. Perhaps I don't notice it because I drive properly.
