Apologies for the offence caused by the video I posted. The episode in which Peter has a stroke is caused by him gorging on 30 burgers – the episode wasn’t poking fun at people who have had strokes but mocking Peters irresponsible behaviour. However, I can see that video lacked that context. I would draw the line at posting that video and wouldn’t consider posting a video mocking someone with an inherited disability, although I do see value in making light of acquired health issues as gallows humour can help humans process their own mortality.

My post earlier was poorly worded, to clarify – my opinion is that people should take note of Kullys post.

Let’s forget the outright abuse for a minute (which is completely unacceptable) and focus on the greyer area…..I’d feel pretty uncomfortable getting my cock out in a Japanese Onsen because I’d probably be the only white dude there. However having some slightly mental Japanese friends, I probably would.

The same applies to a lot of social situations, it’s easy to feel like an outsider and even easier to do encourage someone who is an outsider to take part with a bit of friendly encouragement and understanding. Integration does work both ways but the biggest hurdle is making someone from another culture or someone who feels that they stand out – feel comfortable in your cultural setting.

I like some of the points made in the podcast, I aimed that at some others.

Living in South East asia for several years, I saw MTBs as more of a rich mans toy,(although becoming more popular in places), and dont forget, its damn hot mostly, so riding up mountains is a different story

I saw more expensive roadbikes in a small area in Makati Manila than I’ve ever seen in London. The middle and upper classes in East Asia are a lot more outdoorsy than most people assume.

Maybe you idiots should go and actually ask some BAME riders if you thought there were issues, tactfully of course, there are plenty of BAME riders round Sheffield so it’s not like they don’t exist.

She said her parents came from a village and didn’t see the country as a place for leisure. They associated the country , cycling and walking with poverty.

I mean she was right though – young white adults (18-29) are lagging behind BAME employees in terms of pay partly because their white parents fled the cities.

No one buys a handsome lurcher, they buy a proven worker or its offspring.

Yes but people also buy good family dogs, I grew up around proper working Springer Spaniels, I also know that cockerpoos make great family pets. There are now so many of them that I’d have thought that statistically I’d have met a bad one by now but I haven’t.

Statistics with Medical Applications is no longer offered at Sheffield TiRed.

If you’re going to do that, go to LSHTM or LSTM (which would be commutable from Sheffield, just about).

The pay for Medical Statisticians is going up all the time, I’m considering a sideways move into it – but at the moment I’m earning good money as a consultant in pharmaceutical Quality Assurance as the job market has gone mental since Covid. I can’t get recruiters and corporate “talent acquisition” to **** off quick enough, there’s currently more money that companies are willing to blow floating around in Pharma/biotech sector than I have ever seen.

The nice thing is, is that because of the strength of the UK’s R&D and pharma regulatory environment it’s also much harder to outsource your job to India – so there’s some stability in the industry. It’s weirdly not as stressful as some other more transient industries.

If you want help with the application I’m sure that we’d be able to point you in the right direction if you decide to go down that route.

Fire your cats and replace them with a Bedlington Terrier – they aren’t doing their jobs.

and letting them have time to reproduce they can put stuff down that will kill them all within hours assuming its mice.

Including killing or causing acute poisoning in your cats as well. Secondary poisoning is a thing – guns or dogs are the way to go – although I guess neither will work in a roof :D

Just watched Matt Hancock live at the commons, for the first time ever he’s mildly impressed me – he comes off as having actually read and understood the science unlike Boris and Rishi. Word on the grapevine is that he has gone again Boris as well, which is why he has been side lined.

Do you lot think he’s taken the barrage of abuse and criticism he’s received to heart?

The crazy thing is, I saw a graph of poll results showing that the majority of respondents blame the general public not the government for the state of the epidemic! (Sorry no link, it was a screenshot taken from Twitter on someone’s Instagram story)

For the British general public everything is always someone elses fault – it’s never the government you voted for, it’s immigrants, pikies, dole scum and the EU.

Lots of people won’t – but it won’t just be people who got them during the lockdown. We got ours 6 months before when I was on shift and at least 1 person was around for 20 hours of any given day but he is now used to us both being at home all the time. We’ll only be doing 3 days a week in the office in the future, we will try to stagger our office days but on days we’re not at home he will go to my parents or to doggy daycare. We may get a second one to keep him company as he’s very socially orientated and loves other dogs and people.

Don’t understand peoples shock at the price of dogs but who will turn their nose up at a 1k bike, they’re **** fairly high level mammals in terms of neurological complexity for gods sake. Doesn’t matter if they’re a “Mutt”.

I felt bad paying 400 quid for my Bedlington.

Hi All, sorry for the essay but hopefully one or two of you on here are in a position of knowledge; myself and partner are sick of travelling from the midlands every weekend to follow our hobbies, so want to move to Sheffield. She found a job and started this week so now it’s on me to find something too. Problem is I have quite a specialised role in model-based software design for automotive industry – I’m struggling to find industries to port this over to in Sheffield so it seems like a good time to retrain as a data scientist, which is a field I’ve been eyeing up for a while now.

The big question is, would a data science masters be enough to get me a job? There seems to be a decent number of openings (mainly in civil service) but they almost exclusively look for a fair degree of experience. This is the big issue, as I already have a masters so the second would be entirely self funded. I should be able to transfer a lot of knowledge over from my current role to become useful pretty quickly – I’m certainly not a fresh grad and even have a few data automation related successes to my name but if competition is high it could be a struggle.

On the other hand there are bloggers across the internet singing the praises of online self learning, but this seems like a long hard slog and maybe only realistic in a capital city.

    Any thoughts? TIA

Give me a shout if you do decide to move to Sheffield, we’re moving to Sheffield as well for the same reasons and because my wife is also enrolled on the Data Science MSc for September 2021.

My wifes working towards her CFA level 3 as well, word on the grapevine is that most of the financial world will be happy with 3 days in the office in the future. So our idea is that we’d only move back to London (if at all) if she was earning stupid money as a quant. London is so expensive to rent that living near the train station in Sheffield and commuting down to stay in a hotel 2-3 nights is still cheaper/breaking even depending on how many nights you stay and how good the hotel is.

April is going to look like a breeze compared to this

Much as I don’t particularly like or agree with Jezza, his message and politics may be more in vogue by next April, which will entertain me greatly.

The Tories won’t keep their inroads into the red wall for much longer.

My worry now is that Cummings thrives on confrontation, creating enemies to divide people, and it would suit this government to start a conflict at the moment as a distraction from a rising infection rate and its own obvious failures. I truly believe they are cynical enough to do that

Bring it on – the North needs reminding who their enemies are – Tories not Europeans.

Back in my day detentions were for possession of a knife or drilling through your mates pencil case in woodwork or painting knob on your mates back or attaching crocodile clips to a teacher or filling your mates homework book with pictures of penises or smoking when you should be digging a duck pond or walking the entire cross country route or not bothering coming back from the cross country route or making teachers cry. You know that kind of thing

Or blowing the exhaust off the head of musics Saab with a large firework.

But nooo, now that’d get you raided by the antiterror police instead of two weeks of detention.

Just out of curiosity, all those saying it was a waste of their time – how would you prefer to be tried if you were facing a criminal trial?

By a randomly selected professional jurors – from a large enough pool with enough checks and balances so as to keep corruption at a level that is representative of the population but not representative of the general publics crass stupidity.

If Serco created the process and back-end then they’d still likely have been tied into a formal proposal, budget, design and change implementation approval process, that can take months even for relatively small projects (I work for an external IT provider to a government agency, not Serco though :p ).

I’d like to know what **** experience Serco has of maintaining GxP compliant databases.

I know nothing about computers! No formal training, just do it because the previous guy retired and it fell to me. It’s no surprise to me that something like this should go tits up.

If you guys were audited by the MHRA you’d get murdered to death. I would love to be the auditor doing the rounds around your lab.

Any properly validated GDP compliant computer system would have been a **** start.

Or even a **** SOP with the line limit defined in it.

Pretty sure Azure have a GxP compliant package or guidelines on how to implement a GxP validated package.

Can I get guidelines about Lance Armstong’s place on the spectrum of Hitler to Hello Kitty please?

    +1

Any decent photoshopppers or visio people here? Can have a straight line spectrum type chart or a decision tree? Maybe Mark can then sticky it so we’re all clear.

Not having a central ID card system is being in the minority.

Did you just use a map that correlates ID cards with most of the worlds leading authoritarian regimes as evidence?

It’s a daft idea, because what it actually leads to, in countries with bigger populations than Qatar that don’t have deserts defending the borders – are black economies and poor healthcare as those that are infective don’t seek medical help.

I think there are lots of workable solutions….. including an offshore processing center. The fact that it’s offshore isn’t what makes it shit. It’s the contempt with which asylum seekers/immigrants/brown people are held by a certain chunk of our society, that makes it shit. Unfortunately, it’s that chunk who the government are pandering to, and so are actively encouraged to treat them like shit.

There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with an offshore centre, except that building anything offshore is way harder and more expensive than building it on the mainland, and the commute is worse for the staff even if you put it in a harbour, let alone if you put it halfway around the world for no valid reason.

Yes there is something fundamentally wrong with offshore centres, as there is no legitimate or moral motivation behind the use them. The point of offshoring in the first place isn’t to protect the UK population, it’s to hide the facilities in either hard to view places or corrupt countries. Why else were they considering Papua New Guinea, one of the last places on earth where you can still reasonably expect to find Kurtz hanging out in the outback.

Yes but when does it become acceptable to do so? Wishing death upon Hitler/Osama/lots of random brown people in the middle east via drone strike is perfectly fine apparently. Wishing it on a possible sex offender and corrupt president apparently gets you a frown and joking about it happening to a blonde buffoon gets you banned.

    Clearly defined guidelines please.
