Of course it isn’t but it’s always good for the morale to know that you could just throw the towel in and do a runner.

Edit: having read your edited post, I’m liking your style. Do I know you

I am 100 percent not on any interpol red notices. Honest guv.

Give her the kids, join Medicine Sans Frontiers and disappear. Get yourself posted somewhere proper dodgey, like an Ebola hit country where people will be too scared to come and find you. Send out as much of your money to a random country via western union in 500 amounts each day, pick up money at random country near to the one where you are working and sneak across the border with all your cash. Hide it under the bed at the MSF camp until you can set up a dodgy international bank account.

Tier 1 does not control spread
    Tier 2 may contain spread
Tier 3 may shrink the epidemic (R<1) – perhaps.
    Lockdown shrinks the epidemic (R~0.8)

Yup, fits pretty much exactly with my semi-professional guess at how the tiers would work in practice.

I’m thinking more like the Thalidomide issues, where unknown side-effects may not show up for a few years or more. There’s been time for short-term issues to be flagged up but not enough for long-term ones. Absolutely agree that all the pharma companies will be very aware that they have a duty to not cock it up as public opinion on the safety of any drugs has to be very high for it to work.

You don’t go dosing pregnant women with random drugs to find out whether they’re teratogenic or not, you do mouse studies. Which will have been done on this. Thalidomide was a cock up of epic proportions because they didn’t carry out those types of safety studies in animals.

Anyway, everything kills you – oxygen helps to give you cancer, tasty food kills you, every drug has a side effect. It’s all about the risk benefit ratio, I’m way more worried about breathing in city air than I am about getting a vaccine. **** I’d probably take the Russian one if I got to breath clean air for the rest of my life.

Hahah do those vertical lines represent the confidence intervals? HAH! Holy shit.

But it is now a counterfactual for evidence of influence of Tiers.

Hang on? So Tiers don’t work?

Why Trump’s base is a brainwashed cult, and how to break the spell from Trumpvirus

Trump Jr. called for total war after it became clear that his father is losing the election. It’s a Nazi dog whistle. “Do you want total war?” is one of the most iconic sentences of the Nazi era. Every German knows that sentence. It’s as famous as “Sieg heil.”

He is all over the place. It changes from hour to hour,’ the person said. …

Somehow I get the feeling that right now – there is a conversation going on like this somewhere within the US DoD

He knows that whatever he has the power to do now, Biden will have the power to reverse just as easily in January, so is it safe to conclude that whatever he’s doing now, he’s doing so to use now?

There is an argument that some of them will actually be relatively difficult to remove, but I fully expect Trump to try and use them to hold on to power soon.

Honestly, if he did the unthinkable – what SOP does the US have to stop a coup by militias and certain sections of the military and police, legally and without bloodshed? I believe part of the worry is that they have never had to cope with this situation so people are unsure what to do.

Trumps wife is going to divorce him, he’s a raging narcissist who’s now so ugly and old people find him offensive to look at, he’s old enough that being sent to a supermax has probably lost it’s seriousness, he will have multiple charges levelled against him when out of office, he’s broke….what’s he got to lose by going full dictator?

I actually think he’s mad enough to engage in a nuclear exchange with North Korea to stay in power.

This is getting more entertaining by the day – CNN seems genuinely concerned about a coup now.

The other thing is ray tracing – it looks great but it absolutely kills a GPU, the PS5 and Series X both support it but I doubt any games will run in 4k with it anytime soon (at least not at 30fps). Even at 1080 a lot of games will only be running at 30fps with ray tracing enabled.

I reckon AMD and Sony/Microsoft can pull of 60fps ray tracing with Vulkan based ray tracing – from what I’ve been reading the implementations are becoming a lot more efficient – I think they’re using a mix of traditional methods and ray tracing to do it. Halo and Gears 5 are promising Ray Tracing at 4k/60fps.

The old consoles only usually outputted 4k at 30fps anyway, even 60fps will be a massive upgrade. Doubt any consoles will be pushing 4k at a true 120fps anytime soon – Nvidias Ampere is barely capable of that and with ray tracing it’s only about 60fps.

I’ve tried 144hz/144fps vs 60hz/60fps gaming, there is a bit of a difference in smoothness but its only really noticeable in almost a subconscious way and it’s only useful if you’re a counterstrike addict.

Anyone who plays RPG’s and shooters in story mode will be less impressed.

Argos, John Lewis and Asda all shat themselves today when there was stock – the UK basically DDoS’d them. I got as far as payment on Asda for the xbox series x before it crashed just as I got the message on my phones banking app to confirm the payment. John Lewis wouldn’t even add anything to the basket at 08:00:30

I might have an older Radeon R280X laying around that could be used as a test mule – I’ll have a look.

Do you have any old GPU’s lying around, willing to get a very cheap and nasty card – try it and then send it back?

    oakleymuppet

Bios sorts it out, I had fun testing my luck and got them both to output at the same time.

I might be slightly mental though, I’ve been OCIng my ram recently for the lockdown hell of it.

Yeah it’s been that way for a while cougar. :P

That’s why I’m asking if taking the GPU out will still let him connect to motherboard HDMI to get to a BIOS screen or something.

    It won’t.

Go through Cougars list and try a different PCIe slot! And plug in a motherboard speaker so you can hear if it posts! They are literally for this exact issue.

If the Ryzen 3600 doesn’t have the G suffix then he doesn’t have an eGPU. They do marginally cheaper CPU’s without them, same for Intel.

    oakleymuppet

Hah it’s just that I’m too lazy to flog them on ebay and they just end up lying around until they’re completely obsolete and I dispose of them.

Selling GPU’s is a right faff as well, as invariably someone will claim it doesn’t work and ask for a refund after removing the heatsink and watercooling it or something daft.

    oakleymuppet

They are ridiculously expensive and certain models are very rare at the moment, so it wouldn’t surprise me if some little scrote thought he might be able to nick a 3080 and then bottled it when he realised it wasn’t a 1000 quid card on ebay.

    oakleymuppet

Right well if this hasn’t been sorted by the start of December and if it’s too expensive to sort – I’ll post him my old 1080 if I get my hands on a 6900XT.

    oakleymuppet

It’s certainly possible, I’ve even had both the external gpu and eGPU running separate displays for the lolz.

    oakleymuppet

If you remove the external and if there’s a separate HDMI connection on the board.

My gigabyte motherboard switches automatically…but you could try removing the gpu i guess

Aside, I’m struggling to believe that a tightened screw unscrewed itself and disappeared in transit. Are you sure you screwed it in?

Have you seen the quality of some cases these days Cougar? Lots of flash glass panels and RGB fans but terrible underlying build quality.

    oakleymuppet

Ahhhh that’s a shame. What GPU? I might have a spare when the 6900 XT comes out…

    oakleymuppet
    Free Member

I can see a BIG heavy GPU snapping of its been chucked about … I’m struggling to see how it would pull out the mount and screw…

Depends on case quality and the GPU weight, some of those screw mounting holes on some PC cases are proper dodgey and I wouldn’t trust them to hold anything that’s not kept completely still or moved gently.

    oakleymuppet
    Free Member

If there’s a screw bouncing around in there it could definitely be a short as well.

Is it making a post tone? Did you fit the motherboard speaker? Is the CPU cooler sat properly or could the CPU need reseating.

Basically you need to guide him through checking each and every component in a systematic fashion.

He’s plugging the cable into the GFX card and not into a motherboard socket, yes?

It would still display using the onboard gpu, my desktop switches between either depending on where you plug the cable in.

Are all the power connectors in the GPU?

    oakleymuppet
    Free Member

I built it up last week, all working fine, games installed, posted to him yesterday. It arrived today, all powers up ok but there was no display. After s good look round it seems during postage the graphics card was jolted out of the motherboard. It was screwed in! Looks like the clip has snapped off at the end of the PCI slot and the mounting screw is nowhere to be seen. My dad’s tried putting it back in but still no display. The pc seems to power on ok, all power/SDD LEDs work, all case fans spin, graphics card fans spin, there’s just no display output. He’s using HDMI to a flat screen TV (not ideal I know) but this was working immediately prior to connecting the pc.

Pro builders almost always put something in to support the GPU during transport.

Try the onboard siaplay and a different PCIe slot. If onboard display works and none of the slots work, it’s a damaged GPU. If one PCIe slot works it’s a buggered PCIe slot etc.

If you have you’re own office, a condenser mic and speakers. It’s a lot less fatiguing than wearing cans all day. The conferencing software is good at cancelling out feedback now.

We went down this route for my missus as I come from a family of musicians so this seemed the most natural route, however she has been told that she is much clearer than anyone else in the company many of whom are using headsets.

The integrated fridge freezer in this poxy cottage is about to die and if it does, we’re goosed. Since there’s a severe shortage of all kinds of appliances now we’ve ordered a standard under-counter fridge from Argos. We can always resell it later.

Can a petite woman and a man in very bad shape with severe muscle loss hope to get it out of the car and up 6 steps then into the kitchen? Or are we deluded? How much does a bog-standard fridge actually weigh in kgs?

I assume you have some health issues then, have you got family or friends you trust not to give you covid? Anyone close by on STW?

What I’m getting at is that unless subjects were intentionally infected how can we ascribe the efficacy to the vaccine, and not some other influence such as the natural seasonal drop in infections and the widespread lock down over the spring and summer (or indeed a combination of vaccine, summer & lockdown)?

You have your statistically representative sample of the population given the vaccine yes? Well then, their rates of covid-19 infection shouldn’t differ from the population at large. The lower rates over the summer probably made it harder simply because it made it more difficult to ascertain a statistically relevant sample size and I guess more infections could make differences in the data clearer.

From a country that snorts half it’s weight in badly cut cocaine and then drowns itself in ethanol, the vaccine safety stupidity is astounding.

The Russian one will be the ethical alternative, the Pfiezer one will give you aids, Biden will be an NWO elitist who hates Brexit, self-driving cars will be a tool for race replacement because they’ll be programmed to avoid black pedestrians at the expense of the white occupants, the public will continue to blame “Chynahh” for everything whilst conveniently ignoring Mink fetishizing degenerates in Denmark, mumsnet will become a political party and Piers Morgan will be prime minister.

I found the built in sound surprisingly good on our flatscreen but admittedly it is a 65″ one (Samsung QLED)

It depends on your room – flat screens rely on bouncing the sound off your rear wall. So the surface shape, distance and material can really affect the sound quality, what works in your room might not work in others. I’ve also found it’s source dependent, something like Family Guy can sound almost as clear as my 5.1 setup dialogue wise but a movie can be a incoherent mess with unclear dialogue.

Honestly, even the cheaper AVR’s these days are so good and easy to use, I don’t see why anyone who listens to music on separates doesn’t bother adding one and running their audio through their decent speakers.

    oakleymuppet

As the other thread was closed by drac?

We have a 5.1 surround system. And tbh we barely use it. It does sound much better than the TV but most of the time we just don’t care that much.

How come molgrips? I use mine all the time – just set and forget….it’ll either play stereo if the source is stereo or 5.1/atmos if the source outputs that.

    oakleymuppet

Pair of active Edifier speakers – they’ll shit all over a soundbar at that price.

If you have an AVR and surround sound I don’t know why you just wouldn’t set that to stereo mode though for normal tv viewing or leave it on direct mode.

aka. Black Swan’s. No normal European person questions that Swan’s are white, it’s just a fact. Until all of a sudden, you see an Australian Swan and it’s black. You didn’t know that you should even question that Swan’s might not be white.
