I would have thought that her tutor should have been advising her on the dissertation before submission so that it didn’t come to this point. You don’t just write it sat in a room on your own and not show it until submission day.

Uh….respectfully, yes, that’s exactly what does happen. When I did my Masters, I had one meeting with my assigned tutor, found her really unhelpful and disinterested and just cracked on myself. Same with many of my peers.

Probably not the best way, but happens a lot I think.

Just over a week and was ok on the bike

    Pretty gentle at first, mind.

Now, the whole vasectomy thing. Am I the only one who found the whole thing really really bloody painful. I’m fine now some months on, but I remember thinking that actually, if I had the choice again, I wouldn’t do it.
As it is, my children are an amazingly effective contraceptive device.

Gosh, that’s really quite unpleasant looking.

It’s worse from behind, Johnners. And the M version of it is…..quite remarkable. Ostentatious is a kind description.

If you want people to dislike you, just buy this instead. Simple:

    Oh come on chaps!
You just need the right motivational accoutrements; ie Training software (trainerroad with sufferfest) and setup space (garage or suchlike)

I only have one bike and its a fairly nice one. It goes on the turbo in the garage for a session on Monday evening, maybe Wednesday as well and then off again for the early Saturday morning chain gang. And this will happen throughout the winter.

I’ve never understood why folk dislike them so much….but I appreciate that everyone has different tastes and respect that. I love mine.

I can second the Robin McKenzie book. Sorted me out when I had a nasty lower back and use the positions whenever I get pain (if I’ve lifted up the kids too much or something)
Got rid of sciatica too. Quite interesting story as to how he came to discover his method!

What’s wrong with a pair of honest leg warmers? Or knee warmers, if you must.
    Good dod.

And 3/4 bibs look terribly gauche, boys.

Yet sold millions and millions of copies.

Absolutely abysmal. She’s obscenely rich as a result

Feel comforted that this sort of travesty can never happen again, what with artists receiving 0.00000001p per play, from spotify. Or something like that.

Aphex Twin’s ‘Druqks’ was a benchmark in audience contempt.
Menswear’s album was hideous. I’m not sure what I was thinking. I was at university, though.

As a callow 18 yr old I loved simple minds new gold dream. I then bought sparkle in the rain. Urgh. Awful. I saw them for what they were, pedlars of pomp.[\quote]

There’s been a recent reissue of New Gold Dream – it was given a rave positive review by Uncut, saying it hasn’t dated! What?!

I think that for Simple Minds, ‘New Gold Dream’ was the high water mark. It has some very good songs on it…..the later stuff did devolve into pomp rock, very true.
*fires up ‘The Hunter and the Hunted’ on Spotify*

legend has it that if you cancel they will phone you back the next day with a much improved offer to try and make you stay.

So I just did this very thing. Like the OP, I felt the price for broadband, phone and Internet (we are cable) was too expensive and we had Amazon prime etc. So I cancelled the TV….I was waiting for them to beg me to stay with a new price, but they just said ‘ok’! Which was a it disconcerting.

I waited 3 weeks (?) or so and was just about to ring up and cancel my disconnection (you have 30 days) as we do use it, when they rang back and gave us the same packaged but quite a bit cheaper – locked in for another 12 months.

We were paying £90 per month seemingly after calls and now we pay £52 per month.

Not life changing but worth it, I guess 🙂

    St Elsewhere?

Mark Frost was a writer on Hill St Blues and later put together Twin Peaks with David Lynch. Still one of the strangest and most unsettling pieces of network television I have ever seen. Ok, the second season largely sucked because Lynch had gone (till the final episodes) but still…..

Noseybonk was also quite unsettling, I might add, but nothing to do with this. 🙂

Agree with ChrisL’s synopsis. Very accurate.

I live on a residential street which is popular for parking. I have a drive which is regularly partially blocked by people handing over the edge of it. Mostly it’s manageable.

In fact, I have next door’s builder fully across it right now. This happens a lot as well. Do other STWers get irritated by having to ask neighbouring trades to move so they can get their car out??

    Great video 🙂

Well played – that caught a lot of the spirit. I skated 87-90 then 96 to 99.
I’m still not sure why my mum allowed me out into town for hours to skate the kerbs at the Town Council building when I was 11, but there we go. I had a Schmitt Stix Chris Miller with OJs and red Gullwings, later followed by the ubiquitous Powell Tommy Guerrero and, my favourite – the SMA Jim Thiebaud with the ‘batman’ graphics! (it was the Batman era)

Happy days. Thanks for sharing that.

My parent’s cat went missing for a few days, which wasn’t unusual. The following day, a very upset lady brought round a dead cat in a blanket that she had either discovered or run over. She was very upset, as was my mother….

Folks paid for it to be cremated (or something like that) and were pretty distraught as it they’d got her when first married.
A day or so later, the cat wandered in – it had been sleeping in a neighbours shed. They never did find out who owned the first cat!

A school friend of mine is *almost* an MP (lost by a handful at the last GE) but I think will certainly be one next time (if labour don’t implode). He is seen as a ‘rising star’ by labour bods apparently.

Although not terribly bright, he had a very ‘big’ personality. At school, it seemed like he was accepted and thought of as funny, or a massive show off/ idiot. I liked him once I got to know him. He was ALWAYS chasing women as well.

He tried to be a rock star for years with his band (he was the front man, naturally) and had a Jim Morrison schtick that was a little irritating. He got close and released EPs and singles, but it never quite happened.

I was thinking about him the other day in this regard and wondered if being an MP is a quest for fame like being a the lead singer in a successful band – basically an acceptable way of being famous (if you’re a bit of a show off….)

I remember he always saw things in a very black and white way and was very religious. This did not stop him smoking weed at school and f*cking numerous girls 🙂

I suspect the answer (if that’s what you’re after) lies in the negative responses:

    House prices are high
    Traffic is terrible

    But why is that?

Perhaps it’s because a lot of people want to live here and bring their cars…….

For what it’s worth, I moved here two years ago after living in London for 20 years.
It’s a great city IF you live in the right area. And that’s not cheap. But if you can live in, say, Clifton, Westbury on Trym, Stoke Bishop, Sneyd Park, Redland…..it’s very very nice.
I wouldn’t fancy living in Lawrence Hill.

Important to remember, that it IS a city and not a large west country town – so it is divided. There are plenty of other places in Somerset and Devon if you fancy a more rural life.
