Ok thanks for the replies, Andy thanks for explaining now I can understand a bit more why they need to be so tight.

And actually motox2k, I think you’re onto something. The actuator on the post itself is very stiff, I don’t know much about it but I just feel this could be easier?

    haha very funny :P

And yeah the slikgraphics is excellent. Just says anything custom, email for a quote. And any colour for the same price!! I ordered them in gold in the end, to match the frame. Will be looking at a custom set for the new f120s im getting.

I guess he could do frame decals as well… seems really cheap for what it is!

because they look good? and I want to show off I have fox forks.

Sounds shallow but if you buy a ferrari, why debadge it? Show it off?

Oh dear, now I am in a pickle. Go for standard OE ones, or the retail ones? And they have different colours.

    What to do!

But thanks for the link, that’s perfect for what I am after. £16 doesn’t sound too bad, should be a bit sturdier too.

Yeah will give them a try then. I applied helitape about 3 months ago. Then for some reason just looked at them tonight and thought I would remove it. It pulled up the stickers and made them ripple, I feel such an idiot. Wish I could just leave things alone sometimes!

There’s no such thing, all the ones I have found have a gaping hole in the top, lets tonnes of water in :(

So, following on this, from someone who has never touched a pair of forks in any servicing way, and it seems quite daunting, what can I do to stop this happening? I don’t want to have to dismantle the forks but I read about you can pop the top seals off and cycle the forks a few times, which brings up the crap. I tried to lift these seals but it was impossible.

Any decent videos/guides out there on how to do very basic maintenance that will help your forks in the long run. I’d prefer to leave a strip down to a professional!

And can you spray something on forks to alleviate any dirt below? Like a lubricant or something?

Interesting…they talk about Loctiting the shells to the frame cups…but also suggest greasing everything…and i don’t think you can do both. Deffo reinforces the options I’d considered though.

When i built mine, i ran a drop of gease around the BB shell, its the shimano one and it has been creak free.

If we’re talking Carbon Whippet, greasing isn’t the best idea…

Did a few laps last year and some idiot rode into the back of me as I was moving over to let him past. I came off the bike when the rear wheel physically popped out the frame and bent the rotor such that the wheel no longer went into the frame.

    And he didn’t stop.

Thanks a bunch. Cost me £30 in repairs, seriously who doesn’t stop after a crash? I’ve got it on video if anyone fancies identifying him lol

right times up, I ended up spending the time looking at hope floating rotors and I really did not need to spend any more… so have now looked away and ordered them.

No worries, doubt I would have got anything for £30 anyway

yeah I would normally buy from them, but these bits are a bit specialist – basically pimping stuff – blue skewers, blue clamp, blue grip clamps. Which evans don’t sell.

They’re pretty good on pricing and their price matching is decent too, no quibbles generally.

to be honest im not one to go out for a ride if it’s tipping it down with rain.

If, however, it starts raining whilst I am out, a water repellent jacket would be nice.

I bought a specialized command post blacklite. Haven’t used it yet as it’s a christmas present to myself, but from what I did testing (“yes dear, I have to check it’s working or I will need to send it back”), it seems decent.

The big difference is it isn’t a hydraulic system. It is mechanical. It has three fixed positions, which physically lock into place (i.e. it is not relying on any pressure holding it up). In this sense I think it will be a lot more durable than the others, but we will have to see. I’ve heard great things about the reverb’s hydraulic lever, which no one else has. Gives better power apparently. Not sure it’s worth the extra cash though.

    5 seconds of googling later….

Firstly, there are none in stock, I can’t add one to the basket.

Second, I don’t see pit zips, front pockets, adjustable hem, adjustable cuffs. The hood also looks very naff, no wire peak or any adjustability at the rear. All of which are fairly essential for the nature of the sport.

    try again?

Ilus D-Lab Softshell also offers a good level of breathability. The fabric is woven to ensure water cannot enter but perspiration can escape, whilst the wind resistant membrane ensures protection against the cold.

Volunteering has it’s problems from a management perspective. You can’t replace someone, as when the boss says “go wash the toilets”, you can easily turn around and say “no, im not paid to do that”. So in that respect, the management will find it hard to please you.

Also why would you choose to volunteer? just go get a job there!

God they’re odd. Bought large humvees the first time and the inners were hanging off my in every area (im a 32″ like you). Went down to a medium and now the inners are still a little loose but the shorts are very, very tight indeed at times, like, you would no way need the belt they supply.

They aren’t uncomfortable, but the sizing is odd indeed.

Interesting to see this thread. My sister made an order last Thursday, the item arrived on Saturday but I later found out she had recieved an email on Friday telling her it had been cancelled…… yet she did not ask for this to happen, and I have the item in my house.

Bear in mind other shops do good price match systems, and Evans will in store price match CRC as long as the item is in stock and matches exactly. Most of them have often deliveries too so you would probably get it quicker by collecting in store than by post.

I insure all my bikes above their value (because of added bits), costs about £50 a month…… 5 k’s worth…

decided to go for original route along the top, and have temp cabled tied it to the frame where the stops are. It’s working beautifully (actually better than before!) and looks ace.

Drilling the stops sounds… risky. Wouldn’t want to tit it up.

well what’s hard is whether to do that, or to run the black cable the whole way……. and also which route to go. Under the downtube and along the bottom, or cable tie to brake cable and run along the top tube and then the chainstay?

these are the hard decisions, pushing a cable through a piece of housing isn’t too hard, I agree.

Give evans another go. Try in the week, as often on the weekend you get ‘saturday staff’ who are there to make money and that is all. Weekdays tend to be full time people who are actually knowledgeable.

edit: whoops just saw that, nice one, glad you got sorted

    o96192083

it’s not long enough to do that, think the idea is you fit them where the cable used to be exposed.

I will do what you said diawl, just run it the whole length. If it gets sticky I can always get a new inner (in fact I got two), and change it regularly… they’re only a quid after all.

Not really sure what to say to that. Cyclists going through red lights annoys me immensely, but PC Stout should really be educated on what to say to these jokers.

If I had been the man, I’d have said that I was in a hurry to get my child from school, saw the red light, thoroughly checked for crossing pedestrians, and decided that I would risk it. I was terribly sorry and it would never happen again. Doubt I would have got a ticket.

Policemen get far too much of this shit nowadays from people who don’t know what the law is themself. These guys are trying to do their damn job, why make it hard for them? They only human underneath and he could easily have got away without a ticket without breaking the law again.
