Lockout now works OK, but, funny this one, the rebound seems to be the wrong way around? + makes it go quicker (I THOUGHT), and – slower (I thought), but in actual fact, furthest on the + direction makes it crawl back? Bit odd. Not a major issue though.

I had the lowers upside down for a good 20 minutes and they didn’t feel too much different to be frank. There’s still this ‘boing’ about 60% travel down, and they feel like they are scraping metal against metal, not harshly, but just rubbing against something.

One thing that is really frustrating me is this bloody awful shock pump. Never buy a bontrager one, when I put it onto the valve and started pumping, it never matches the pressure (despite being on as tight as possible), and all I hear is air coming out the bleed valve on the pump. Happens on all forks and shocks I own. That will be going back/in the bin soon.

Maybe I should just ignore all these issues and just ride them, probably would ride in without making too much sound. Or maybe they need a service if they’ve been sitting in a box for three years :/

    thanks for the advice

I literally just bought (yesterday) the pro II with Flows, and haven’t ridden them yet, but they look excellently well made, and have tape already applied which is a bonus.

I don’t get how so many people service their own forks! The thought of dismantling them horrifies me, I just KNOW it would go horribly wrong.

I once spent probably 30 minutes trying to lift the caps around the stantions to re oil the O rings, and couldn’t get them up at all. That is what I mean, every stage would be an absolute impossibility!

Built a 914 and a 514 last week. Both tubeless and with reverbs and they came out at 28lb and 30.5lb.Not super light by any means.

I question what your builds were, I run a 314 with a command post, comes in at a shave over 30lb …

if you google USE Atom, on discussions, there’s a few mentions about this happening. I’ve not had an issue with mine but it’s barely 6 months old!

    Get another :)

    best full sus: Apollo

best for hardtails is probably the Carerras.

Both decent framesets from a quality bike shop.

I’ll definitely be subscribing, been meaning to do it for months, just need this as a kick up the backside to do it.

I used to read MBR massively, every month, switched to Singletrack and haven’t looked back. Why? Because I have the bike. I have the kit. I have the know how. Now I want to go ride it – tell me where!

The pictures are stunning and the routes make my mind wander about future holidays for hours. Please keep it 80/20 with routes to kit/reviews etc. as ST is just not that type of magazine. Clearly you aleady know this – new riders are not walking in and picking up singletrack off the shelves, the majority are experienced and therefore know what they want.

Hmm OK I have checked and the ZTR rims are about £20 more than the Mavics full stop! But yet the wheel build comes out cheaper :P So this is looking appealling.

I’ve also decided that it’s pointless to think about something I ‘might’ do in the future, focus on now and what they are for, and so I’ll go lighter!

Will still have a look at both though, but really with the option of running it tubeless (weight saving again), there to be used or not used, it seems foolish not to go for them when lots on here are using them without issue!

And with the levers, yes, got a very decent pair of steel levers which were my dads, must be getting on 45 years old now!

    thanks for the help!

Thanks, I appreciate your input on that. I’ve had a look and they are pretty light! That would be a huge weight difference. And they come with the QR15, and they’re even cheaper.

Can I ask how you mean mounting tyres is not an issue? I once accidentally bought a tubeless nobby nic, and tried fitting it to my non tubeless rim. I spent nearly an hour and I swear to you it was about an inch away from the edge of the rim. Perhaps it was wrong, but I sent it back. I dread events like this, especially at the side of the trail!
I suppose you just lever the tyre on and it’s fine? Maybe I just got unlucky with the nobby nic.

Oh, and another question. Do I go straight pull or standard? What’s the difference?

Not sure why things would need re-threading. There shouldn’t be paint in the threads anyway. I’ve not had to touch a thing on mine. Came back from being dipped, I gave it a very light buff with fine wire wool and built it back up….

Nice one. Can I ask what colour you got it dipped in? Just ‘raw’? Or is there no such colour and it’s an explanation :P

    Just for reference, the highway code also states this;

The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn

    while stationary on the road
when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

except when another road user poses a danger.

    And

Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users.

    That.

So you all obey the highway code now? never flicked your beams to let someone out of a junction?

I’m sorry but I rarely give a cyclist as much room as a car and, as a cyclist, I wouldn’t like that. As I said earlier, there would be queues for miles until a safe overtaking spot, and drivers would get so angry. Be realistic.

My Reign rawed. Why anyone spends hours fiddling about with Nitromours I’ll never know. £25 to have it dipped at a powder coaters, Bobs your wossname…

But then you’ve gotta pay a bikeshop to get everything rethreaded, etc…? or am I wrong

How fast would one cycle though? on a roadie, maybe 20 mph? Now many roads it would take an awful long time to come to a spot to safely overtake a car doing 20mph, whereas overtaking a single file bike can be done safely in a lot more spaces. Fair point yes?

So riding two abreast is going to hold up traffic, quite simply, and not going to make you any safer as the drivers will get irate and try to make dangerous overtakes. Another fair point?

So you get your forks back but that’s about it?

Actually come to think of it, probably just the stem back?

    Our garage in Croydon

And FYI the web address, the our and are are the wrong way round, it reads “where our are bikes”. I doubt it really matters.

    ^IP ban?

But yes the prepping for a ride can take a while. I try often to say “im only going out for an hour, dont need the camelbak”

but then I think, what if I get a puncture? I can be a long way away in 30 minutes. Or what if I need a drink? Don’t do the bottle cage trick see! So inevitably it all goes in the bag and I’m carrying my whole life around.

Good in the event of an incident, bad 99% of the other time ;)

Thanks. Depending on the quality/thickness of the paint your approach should vary. I wouldn’t and didn’t use sand paper as it will leave scratches and take away the detail of the welds, which on the Enduro look nice. Start off with nitromors and either a plastic scraper or some wire wool. I had to use shed loads of both as the paint was a real pig to remove, I think it was powder coat to be honest. It took over a week doing it for about 3 hours every night. Some people say the paint just falls off and it takes them less than an hour to do a whole frame.

Cheers for the reply. I will look into the nitromors, not heard of that! And what about protection? surely with no lacquer it will just rust? Or am I wrong?

    yeeeeeeees! Do it lovingly to my leather spoon regularly, I use the following;

    http://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/products/productdetail.php?productid=499&activityid=-1&itemid=-1&fabricid=-1

It squeezes out and has a foam applicator, just rub it all over with your fingers and the foam, into all the nooks and crannys. Either then rinse off (if you don’t like the smell etc.) or just polish out with a J-Cloth, as I do, and you get a lovely shine, lovely smell, waterproofing (beads up nicely), and just looks brand new. Anything similar to that would probably do, but that stuff is like a wax mixed with water. Not hard like a hair gel, but not polish-like. It’s just a bit gooey and perfect.

The video is a great example of how basically all warehouses work, bar the fact they lovingly lower your bits into the pick box (a toss from 10 foot away is more realistic).
I haven’t ever had a problem with CRC and will continue to use their excellent services as long as it continues to be reliable and efficient.

And RE: the letterbox. Why not get it sent to work? And if you aren’t at work, what are you doing spending money!
