Often I’m selling something I brought 2nd hand with out a receipt…It does fill you with confidence when a seller has the receipts though.

I once was buying a bike off a local site, it was soooo cheap I was concerned it may have been nicked’ I would have not proceeded without him having receipts. Turned out it was all legit and all from a local bike shop…the guy must have been desperate or crazy!! 🙂

    UPDATE

I have reported the incident to my insurance company, the advisor has run it past her senior who has agreed with the adviser, they are treating it as a non fault incident. I explained that the 3rd party driver is planning to claim against me and was advised that they will fight any claim as they believe I was not at fault.

Thank you for all of the interesting responses, as I said in most situations I do take a quick look over the shoulder and will now be doing it in all situations as I will be more aware of the potential unexpected.

Finally it was much easier explaining the incident verbally over the with the adviser having a map in front of here. 🙂

To see google maps search for The Old White Horse’ Stourbridge (it’s on the island) to the left is south lane, I was on South lane heading towards the island, I was turning right into Glebe Lane.

bigyin…your reading it slightly wrong…it’s not easy to explain.

Imagine a ‘normal’ road, one left lane, traffic moving my direction, one right lane, oncoming traffic, island 200 yards ahead, 180 yards before the island there is a street/junction to the right.

I was in a que waited to get to the junction before turning, as I start to turn car comes up the right hand lane to turn right into the junction I am about to turn into, she clips my front right wing.

DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example

    > approaching or at a road junction on either side of the road

    > where traffic is queuing at junctions or road works

This is why I thought her manover was illegal!?^^^^

Right back from work now and can discuss /answer any questions…

I have been driving 16 years averaging 15,000 mile a year so fairly experienced I’ve had one little knock in that time (very gentaly drove into the back of someone who stalled at lights!).

I am a confident but cautious driver, ring roads/motorways, dual carriageways etc always always check over my shoulder before pulling out….I think I was just caught out as it was so unexpected (don’t they say always expect the unexpected!?) I do feel I had done enough given the circumstances but in hindsight realised it would have been prevented should I have taken another look!

However just because I could have prevented surely dose not mean that I’m at fault? A car that pulls out onto oncoming traffic would be a fault it doesn’t mean the other drive he has hit has joint liability because ‘if he were driving slower and braked quicker he could have prevented it’.

Wow posted before my appointment came out to a lot of replays!! Certainly food for thought, I understand all yhisbif it was a bike, if it was an ambulence etc but just to be clear we’re talking seconds between mirror signal manover, had I been looking in my mirrors when I pulled out I may have been hit by oncoming traffic… No win situation. I know that it was her fault (I also know had I looked in my mirror again I may have seen her but then I may have missed oncoming traffic, can’t look both ways at once) I’m trying to understand how insurance will see it and as stated will probably go 50:50.

Just to clarify she drove into my wing as I turned into the junction. There was no filter lane purly me turning right on a normal road from the left lane across the lane coming from the other direction.

I know she was not directly behind me, can’t say exactly how many cars she had passed but I do believe she was driving irratically and didn’t want to que.

I do feel like the victim as I waited till I got to the junction, mirror signal manover and wham I’m hit in the wing!

    I have 3 26″ bikes plus my wife’s 26″ 😕

As above if your keeping it a fair few years as will I…buy the bike that works best for you and gives you that warm glow inside each time you open the shed/garage door 😀

I think the market at the moment is slower for complete bikes than it used to be and prices seem to have fallen sharply in the past 12 months at least.

I’ve seen many Orange Fives (26″) listed on eBay and PB for months and months at £1600-£1800. All of the ones I’ve seen on authion are going for £900-£1200 sometimes with better specs…I’m taking pikes, reverb, crossmax etc.

Split and sell if you wouldn’t get more the bike is over priced…you can’t sell for more than the sum of its parts.

I’m kind of working on when tenants change over if they mess up the wall filler, sand, paint…like new!

Reef what oil based paint? Its a buy to let, if I can get the walls good now will make future maintenance easier, lining paper is probably a bit more work in the long run, I’d like tovtry and getvit right now.

Thankyou by thin emulsion mix do you mean watered down?

Also stain block…could you kindly link to the type of thing you’d use (wickes or B&Q).

I did think it was clean so filled last might and sanded this morning was very proud of my lovely wall until I usedca damp cloth to wipe it down then this paste seemedcto come from no where, sugar soap has washed the filler away!

If you really must get rid just advertise now at a fair price and hold out.

I have 2 x 26″ bikes, Orange Five and Ti Slackline, I’m not all ’26” is the best’ but if I were to try and replace them for 27.5″ like for like I couldn’t afford to, it would cost £000’s even after selling my bikes, the marginal gains (if noticeable) would not be worth it IMO.

I really wish I was in the market for a new trail bike…I’d be all over a 12/13 Five I’ve seen totally pimp ones sell for circa £1200…I’ve considered a second just because they’re such a bargain!!

Used to ride a Blender, 4X/DH and XC, ace fun but climbed like a Pig, I didn’t realise until I changed the frame for Five (I was new to MTB coming from a BMX).

Recently rebuilt the Blender for local XC but was not right so brought a Slackline (ti).

Ace bike ace fun and climbs very very well, run it at 130mm but want 120mm (found it a little wondery at 150 on the climbs). At 5 10 I have the 18 amazing but quite as ‘chuckable’ at the Blender, considering 16.5 but scared that what I gain in chuckability I will lose in climbing prowess.

One thing though as much a I love it for smoother trails (better than the Five) the Five is much more fun on the rough!

Currently keeping the Blender for 4X but may have to let it go…head says sell, heart saws keep!

2nd hand 26″ Fives are coming up almost mint with great kit for circa £1200/£1400 regularly worth considering if you loved you old one…at that price could get it a reasonable weight to with some pimp wheels etc.

If you fancy a HT new Solaris or Stanton Sherpa both 29″ but also take 27.5+, again circa £1500 for a mint 2nd hand build.

For something a little more agro maybe Stanton Switchback 27.5″ very very nice bikes.

Or some of these bikes direct YT/Bird etc…there really is sooo much choice…sorry probably haven’t helped.

P.S. I have an Orange Five and Stanton Slackline both 26″ both ace and I reckon if you shop carefully 2nd hand you’d get both for £2.3k, HT & FS Covers all possible bases…sorry I’ve gone way OT!

I was ridding Cannock so although there is nothing ‘big’ I would have expected to used the full travel or close at least a couple of times. Might just try it at 30% to see how it feels.

Really interesting! I’m 13st and rode my new Debonair on my Five last week for the first time, managed I get 300psi in which took the sag to 25%, felt ok ridding but when I’d finished I’d not used the last 10-20% of travel. I’ll try running 30%, if I get some bands how many souls I be looking to try a a stating point in the pos and neg?

Thanks for all of the replies, I’m yet to contact Dark Side, followed up on West London Cockapoos (gorgeous pups) who won’t have more pups until Spring 2016, however they have provided details of the breeders they got their bitches from. Looks to be a genuine quality breeder in it for the right reasons. Obviously we need to check out everything is as it seems and the breeder sound as though he’ll be doing plenty of checks on us to (which I’m pleased about).

Whilst I love the idea of saving a rescue dog I’m not sure it’s quite right for us at this time, a I said its our first family dog (my wife had dogs as a child) and given that a dog is such a big comment (not like a bike frame you can swap every 6 months, or more for some of you out there) we want to get it right.

Got to say I don’t think the officers handled that very well, one would assume that transporting people on the road would at least require a level of insurance, surely it would not be unreasonable to request a copy of such insurance document, the rider/driver is clearly a scam artist, probably calming all sort of benefits and avoiding tax whilst he’s at it!!

Cheers, nice to see some positive stories…Dark Side and jonnythelayther I will PM you when I get chance see if I can obtain any breeder details, we don’t mind if we have to wait.

CustatdCrean thank you will have a good look at Adams dogs and breeding, we quite fancy a fussy breeder usually means they’re a caring breeder with integrity!

Xiphon…Triffid looks adorable showed my wife and little girl, they went all soppy, if you don’t mind I’ll pm you and ask about where you got her from.

SiB, I will take a look at SWD and share with the wife…any others out there have a Cockapoo?

Interesting, I’ve considered rescue but three issues my wife has raised, she would like to nurture a pup from a young, age, rescue dogs seem to be older. The dog may have a past that could create more of a risk, most dogs in the rescue centres tend to be Staffordshire Bull Terriers and the like!

To answer the breed thing, the choice of dog is not down to ‘designer’ more a case that she’s (we’ve) considered various breeds and it’s the one that ticks the boxes for what we’re looking for.

I appreciate that the breed (non breed) has only been around for 30-40 years but are most dogs not ‘designer’ were created/breed for many purposes just many more years ago?

Will defo look into rescue centres though as well as other avenues!

+1 for the Orange Five…great bike. It’s evolution over they years has made it as good as it could be. love mine very playful and able to take a fair bit of abuse.

Was running mined with CCDB coil and Fox 36’s at 140mm, was excellent DH butas I’ve been ridding more and more XC/trail I’ve switched to Monarch/Pike combo to lose some lbs!

Not tested the new combo yet but expecting good things…I’ve seen very well build ones go for £1200-£1400 now 26″ is out of fashion so frames should be available for £500!

I don’t worry about them matching as long as each component works on it’s own merit…I have Thomson 50mm stem on both bikes, they look great/clean and function as well if not better than anything on the market…I have a Reverb on both bikes, look better than the Thomson dropper IMO, works well and is a lot cheaper but I do run a Thomson when the non dropper comes out in the winter muck! Bars…Renthal on one Raceface on other…do they match? No…look good…damn right!

My new Ti Slackline (25.5 lbs) is quicker on my local XC than my Five (32 lbs)…no surprise given it’s not very gnarl hence why I built the HT XC.

On the rough decents though I’m confident the FS is still quicker (although not compared yet) for me though the FS is just for comfort on the rough rides…my body’s too old!

People catch me up I move over (shout or no shout)…I catch people up expect the same, I hate holding people up and I hate them holding me up.

When Ive made the effort to get to a trail centre then busted a gut to get to the top of a hill I just wanna reap the reward not follow someone slower than me!

‘Only’ doing 36 mph in a 30 mph…having attended the course you will know that if you’d hit someone at 36 mph as apposed to 30 mph the chances of killing them would have been much greater!

I had to attend one last month, I went with a right bad attitude but came out converted…I think it should be mandatory for all drivers to attend one before a test and then once every 5 or 10 years would make the roads a safer place.

My MPG has shot up since attending too!

Mate there’s a mint 16.5″ Stanton Slackline on PB 853 version £225…yes it’s straight 1 1/8th head tube but would be great, I would have genuinely brought it was it not getting a fair price on the Ti version.

There is a lovely specced BFE for £750 on Pinkbike…a lot more bike for the money…medium…XT brakes…Hope Hoops (Flow EX)…Renthal Bars…Etc…etc. I’d be looking 2nd hand 26er!

    Not mine!

I’ve not used them but would be sceptical….they by up a load of 2nd bikes/gear strip it and sell it for a profit…great we all like to make money but I’m not sure they offer warranty in which case you may as well buy 2nd hand direct at a lower price. Their prices seem far far too high for the condition of the stuff if you shop around here/PB/eBay there are some great bargains!

As above…I’m very careful, I’ve had people pay PayPal then ask to come and collect…I refund PayPal and tell them to bring cash, check the item out ad only pay I they’re happy.

I do the same on here, everyone I’ve dealt with on here has been great but if they want it posting its PayPal gift, I know that’s against all advise but I need to protect myself. Anything I sells over £50 is normally cash on collection only (not from my home address, I don’t want to advertise where my bikes are kept).

This way people can have a good inspection of the goods before parting with their cash. As above did the buyer not look at it? Did you not ask “Gave a good inspection, are you happy with it? everything ok?”.

The other thing I do and I may be a little OTT is write a letter saying ‘I can confirm xxx has been received and following inspection the item is as described’ and get the buyer to sign even on a cash sales (eBay only). Might not be legally binding but it’s something to show eBay in a dispute!

I’ve just brought a new bike and have a very nice set of Reba’s for sale currently at 100 but I believe they can be easily adjusted to 120mm (sure someone on here can advise).

Send me an email on nwill1 at ymail dot com and we can chat…if not they probably end up on the bay!
