Spot on, very nice, surely though it needs a Reverb to finish it off?

Also make sure it’s locked away from where those scumbags took the Surge!

I’ve ridden bikes for years, nearly 10 years BMX (DJ/Ramp Parkss/Street) 7 years MTB (Trail/4X/DH). Only ever ridden flats, very rarely lose my pedals. I could even imagin the pain I would end up inflicting on myself if I tried clips…I oftern need to exit a short notice! I. Short, you’ll be fine.

I was 14, rolling very slowly down a small side road looking at the floor and ended up on the bonnet of a parked car!! I quickly got up and rode off before anyone saw.

I try not to buy cheap stuff….but I try to buy stuff cheap 🙂

Patients + sales + discount codes = value for money & a bike/kit far below RRP

Haha…just because I’m not buying it doesn’t mean it is of a lower value…let’s put it this way if the OP wants to sell at £650 like you suggested I would be more than happy to buy it despite the fact I have no need for it as that’s giving it away and I’d be more than happy to double my money!!

P.S legit offer if you want to move it for £650 get in touch, I’ll happily take it off your hands could do with making a few hundred £££’s. (But I personally would split an sell myself if I were you).

I think there are some jokers on here, yes it’s XL, yes it 26″ but anyone saying less than £1k are probably trying their luck. As for the first reply saying £650-£700 I nearly pissed myself…wheels, cranks, forks & brakes are nearly worth that alone. I’d be looking to recoup £1200 at least providing you can afford to be patient.

Who’s to say a biker has made off with it??

I’d buy online and fit myself, but I reckon you can get even better than Wiggle prices if you but from the continent (Fr or DE).

Loads of vids online showing you how to fit but if you really don’t want to do it buy them online and take them to that or another bike shop, if you were quoted £20 for each item it’ll still save a ton.

If items are significantly more at LBS I buy online, I can’t afford to pay an extra 40-50% to keep a shop going on moral grounds…I wouldn’t be able to afford the item most probably.

If there is not much in it I speak with my LBS and by the time you added fitting prices and deducted the small discount they’re usually willing to offer then there is little in it and I would use LBS.

I did the same a couple of weeks ago, never really had an idea of the weight of my Five, I thought they came in at between 28 & 32lbs depending on build…mine currently sits at 33lbs. Was a little shocked but I’ve built it up as a fairly sturdy all rounder.

    Fox 36 Floats (@140mm)
    CCDB
    Reverb
    XT Brakes
    Hope Hoops (Mavic EN321)
    SLX Crank
    G2 Mini Guide
    Renthal Bars/34t Chainring
2.35 High Rollers (Wire Bead Single Ply)
    Deore 10 Speed Cassette
    Deore 10 Speed Chain
    Thomson Stem
    Hope Headset
    Saint Pedals
    Zee Read Mech

The bike rides superb, the only slight issue is climbing but that is my fitness more than the bike. I’m not going to throw loads of £££’ at it to save lbs! I’ve already got an XT cassette that will save 200g, I will match it with a marginally lighter chan (suggestions welcome) some tyres that will save 500g and more importantly will have a lower rolling resistance!

Ideally I am getting new rims but can’t decide between Arch Ex & Flow Ex, I want Flows but quite like the idea of extra weight saving on the wheels!

If I was really flush I’d probably swap to new Pikes and a CCDBair but that’s not going to happen!

For playing on a 4X track there’s nothing better than a HT! Do you already have a trail bike? Get a 4X bike and a trail bike…no compromise!

I was recommended to him buy a guy I brought a bike off, not used him yet but emailed a few of the well known guys with a question, he is the only one that came back to me (with a sensible answer at least). I will be using him going forward.

I was in a similar situation and brought a complete bike (2nd hand though) striped it to the frame, after selling all the bits the frame came in significantly lower (less than half) the price a frame alone would have cost. Yes it was a hassle to sell all the bits but it was do that or don’t get the bike, most things in life worth having take effort! I’ve forgotten all the hassle 6 months on but love the bike, short term pain for long term gain.

When working the returns out I based the prices on rock bottom immediate sale prices to look at worst case scenario…fortunately I got got decent prices and quick sales, and the truth is some of the buyers got a great deal too! As long as you look worse case scenario and it works go for it 🙂

I’ve got 750’s, ridden for 2 years, Trail/DH/4X with decent size jumps and drops, no issues. It is 50mm though and built pretty solid so perhaps the longer ones aren’t as strong!?

I’ve had that happen twice, first time was as an immature BMX rider with no helmet, head met tree. Second time I over jumped a double & nose dived wearing a full face. It’s horrible at the time but all works itself out, I was eventually able to remember the crashes after a short while. Good luck with the recovery.

Cheers, because they’re bulky and I read they were heavy, not something I’ve ever considered but thought I would ask as they’re marketed at DH use.

Looks like I will be pulling the trigger on them (plus the green will match my Neon Green Five).

Cheers, how heavy is heavy compared to the likes of Shimano AM41, ok for trail ridding or too heavy? I do play at a bit of DH & 4X but mainly (circa 75%) trail ridding is on the cards.

Most brands are flip flop design, ie the same top & bottom so you can flip to either side, shimano are not, lots of OEM brakes come euro. Sod’s law I ride euro & recently brought some depression for my play bike and the were uk, I need to swap mine!! Doh!!

Ace fun but very Larry for racing!

Racers will use parts that are XC light, helps with the SNAP out of the gate…however they’re super smooth and hardly hang up so bending they’re bikes are less likely. (Plus get replacement parts free/cheap if sponsored) Decent riders use Reba forks or lowered revs but I’ve seen hang ups leading to bending forks at the steerer. Less a rider do well with an older Pike maybe 300-500g heavier but unlike to bend easily!!

SLX cranks are fairly common, zee rear mechs are ace given the sort cage, as for wheels something with a decent strength to weight, hope pro 2’s on flows or EN521’s etc.

Your not weird…but am actually building a ‘Play Bike’ as we speak. What does that mean to me? Well my Orange Five is an awesome bit of kit & extremely versatile, XC, Trail, Enduro, Mini DH, however it’s a bit much for just messing around in the street and no good for messing around on DJ or 4X which to me is purely playing as is taking my 4 year old daughter around the park.

So yeah my play bike is a budget build of my previous Blender Frame, mix of 2nd hand & new…Lyriks, saint/Zee drive train, Thomson & Hope finishing kit…fun times!!

I paid circa £160 for my Reverb, no regrets what so ever, just keep an eye out, there’s always a deal popping up on them.

Flat out cycles stuff always looks battered!!

Given the budget 2nd hand is most defiantly the answer, £300 budget & Merlin Cycles will be the place to look.

My fitness is lame but my bike handling is not bad, bunny hops, jumping, drops etc come with lots of practice. It’s about just sessioning stuff over and over, I have the benefit of years hanging around on BMX’s in my teens with mates constantly pushing each other.

Find an empty car park get some ‘things’ and just keep trying (after watching online tutorials) to clear them, two challenges are height & distance, a stick or cane balanced on top of a couple of employ coke cans is a good start.

I run 740mm bars on a 50mm stem, transformed my ride, provides a lot of control which adds confidence. I have the same set up on a Five & 4x/play bike, I’ve tried wider & it’s not for me but I’m only 5″9″. The only problem with wider is you have to be cautious not to clip trees in tight spots.

Anyway if you want to try some decent bars cheap I’m about to advertise some 750mm (tbc) Renthal bars, they’re not mint and they have a few marks but structurally sound, £30 posted.

I think you’ve done the right thing…the Reverb will change you rides immensely, as soon as the trail points down you want the seat slammed for maximum fun now it’ll just be the push of a button for every decent no matter how small then as soon as the trail points up…another push of the button & you have the perfect pedaling position back!

Game changer and you’ve had a bargain I paid £165 from France! Yes wheels can be a good upgrade but guess what…you already have a set that’ll do the job the Reverb will add additional function.

    Enjoy.

I just paid £17 for with ‘Parcel force 48 large’ only insured for £200 though would have had to pay more for more cover.

I was worried they would confiscate it due to shock but no problems!

I was contemplating a Slackline instead of my Blender but brought a Five for trail ridding & have rebuilt/rebuilding the Blender as a 4X/play bike. When I contacted Dan (Stanton) he told me he had a Ti Blender, he loved it but felt the slack seat angle compromised climbing, the Slackline has apparently been built to be as fun as the Blender but with the ability to pedel better & work with a wider range of travel (upto 160).

I’d buy one in an instant, if I didn’t have a Blender & a Five.

Anyone know if they come with a bleed kit?

Also as they’ll be for my 2nd bike, will I be disappointed I didn’t get SLX (whick I know feel identical to my XT’s on my Five)?
