I’ve been waiting for much cheapness…was hoping Slackline with a straight 1 1/8th steerer tube and 27.2 seat tube may have dropped but still going for £280-£300 hardly cheap!

Cheers what’s the simple difference without me trawling the net?

Thanks for the responses…I did originally think RR front & rear…2.4 front 2.25 rear??

    Might go that direction!

Depends on ridding style, I’ve seen some Orange ST4’s go at silly money…nobody wants a 26″ with 27.2 seat tube and straight 1 1/8th I guess!

I brought a rear on flow ex at £161, nearly brought 2 just cause the price was so good!

Are they going to stop selling Hope? Seems they’re selling it all off.

Used Rose twice pro bike once, super prices on the items and quick delivery…haven’t had to deal with any warranty issues though.

Check these bad boys out Saint M800 cranks:

    http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/11321170/

Stripped them using caustic soda (nasty stuff) about £4 from wilkinsons then used wet and dry 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1600 followed by autosol to get the polished look, took a little while but look really nice and like a new set!

Ps can anyone post the photo on here?

belugabob – I clearly meant in relation to the cost of a bike, just 2% of a £1000 0.5% of a £4000 or 1/2 a decent tyre or a Dominos pizza or 5 pints of beer…in the context of the discussion £20 really isn’t much.

Just get XT…feel identical but XT look better!! What’s £20?

If you love the SB66 wait…buy once buy right! You’ll still want one even if you get a 575!

Ace, seen that before but was good to see again taking more notice of the wheel building process.

I appreciate he doesn’t want to explain how they got nicked (clearly left unattended for a moment) because he might get a slating on here but would be great to hear about how they were tracked down…police, locals searching, etc.

Either way very nice bike and pleased he got them back!

Haha was reading this thread thinking…silly boy just get a Five but didn’t comment as looked like you’d made you mind up…the Five is a great call, you’ll love it!! Have fun!!

Saint brakes are super pimp and very powerful but XT’s are also very nice and powerful enough IMO plus at just over £100 a pair great value for money.

I have a Five and was very disappointed with the Evolution shock…blew through the travel too easy, swapped it out for a CCDB, heavy but awsome however I’m interested in feedback on the Inline on a Five, ideally I’ll pick up a CCDB Air. Also if you sell your shock new you’ll get more for it than if you’ve used it (if funds are tight there is a CCDB for sale on PB for £225 providing the shock length on 27.5 is the same as 26).

I also need new rims and deciding between Flow EX & Arch EX, I’d love to get the lighter Arch but the reality is with my CCDB and Fox 36’s (set at 140) along with ridding style (I use it for a wide spectrum of ridding) I think I will forego the 100g per rim for the extra strength/security!

Great bikes but for a purpose, if you want to ride general XC it’s gona be a lot to pedal around, if your thinking of ridding bigger/rougher terrain then it’ll be ace.

Anyway it looks like a pre 2010 which means straight steerer and 27.2 seat post, on that basis £900-£1200 dependant of the condition I’d say. I have a mate who picked up a 2012 with dropper post for circa £1400.

Reverbs currently £162 at CRC less £12 if you spend over £60 (there was a PSA on here with the code)

I’ve got one, touch wood, no issues in 10 months.

I’ve got XT on the main bike and Deore on the play bike. I love them, I tried a couple of x2’s because I love Hope stuff and love the whole concept/philosophy of Hope ie UK design/manufacture/available spares for years to come, able to rebuild them etc but IMO they lacked power.

Also and this is a very individual thing, having small/medium sized hands I find that the Hope levers just didn’t feel comfortable ergonomic wise…the levers on the latest line up of Shimano just feel right.

Not thought of the tights under shorts thing…probably the best of both worlds the only part I’m trying to keep dry/the only notable part that gets uncomfortable is my backside.

Any suggestion on the tights? On that note any suggestions for a reasonably prices set that also will provide coverage of my lower back for the gap when my tops pull out of my shorts?

I’m gutted they’re ceasing to make 26″ bikes, a 27.5″ may be better and faster but I like what I’ve been used to ridding for years. I wish they’re was options for the consumer, looks like I’ll be in the 2nd hand market till all the 26er’s are dead and buried!

On a side note (as a reasonably decent/quick rider when descending) I can’t go as fast as my 26″ bike can take me as it is, I’ll start to look for a quicker bike when I’ve pushed every ounce of speed out of my current ride…this is likely to be never!

RRP is crazy but you can pick up a Reverb for £150 new if you wait for a short while for a deal!

I used to think over £100 for a seat post was crazy but a dropper lives up to the hype makes every ride more fun I could not be without mine.

As for Thomson vs Reverb I can comment but my Reverb has been faultless . I see a lot of discounted Reverbs but not any discounted Thomson posts.

Would never use credit for a hobby, hobbies are a luxury. I save up and buy at the very best prices I can often online…frames, forks etc 2nd hand.

I’ve slowly built up a Five for circa £1500 with CCDB, 36’s, Reverb etc. I couldn’t/wouldn’t be able justify paying £3000+ for a bike.

Deferred gratification always feel better…if you’ve waited to get what you want for some time it’s real sweet when you finally get it, I think it makes you value it more.

I ride a Five…admittedly with a CCDB and love it, have no desire to change to something just to save weight or have a more complex suspension design…any way can anybody identify where the video was recorded, I’d love to have a blast on the trail in the vid?

I’m mechanically challenged…however this was super easy, I didn’t even have the yellow block or a vice!

Also there was no need to bleed so as above follow the above, even better search you tube, I watched a vid that made it very clear.

Wow…gutted I missed this PSA. Just to ad I’ve used Probikeshop in the past, got a great price on a Reverb (PSA on here) was delivered quick too.

Cheers, I’ve got a bike with 20mm & one with 15mm ideally I’d run them on both…was hoping there was a cheaper more local option.

Go for the ones that you like the look of, I’ve had both & there’s no real difference (other than those stated above) however I ended up keeping the XT as I liked the look of them better and let’s be frank we’re talking £20 extra, on a bike probably costing many hundreds what’s £20…1/2 a tyre?

    nwill1

Yes…its the Thomson post I bought, defo 27.4mm, I miss read the ad on here myself, I know you have to move fast as they go straight away so I just went ahead without checking…measure twice cut one rule was not followed!

I was wondering if its worth advertising or if it was just a defunct part!?

I’ve said it before but some folk on here always suggest to sell at the lower end of the market (after a bargain?) yes some people do ‘give stuff away’ and if you want a quick/immediate sale it’s the only way, however some people get good prices, the price you get really depends on if your happy to wait a little while for the right buyer who is will to pay the right price because a) it’s exactly what they’ve been looking for b) it close to where they live/work and they can collect giving it a good inspection c) they’ve been looking for ages for one to come up for sale local.

I’ve been looking at kit and for desirable items (Five love it or hate it is one) even at 26 still hold a good value…I keep waiting for these bargains to come along that everybody on here keeps talking about but they seem to be few and far between!

Cheers, as a 2nd bike they may be fit & forget for some time given how much it’ll be ridden, they will mainly be a fair weather ride. If I use it over the winter I could throw the Hopes on with their sealed hubs!?

Thanks, interesting, I am a bit of a fit & forget type, I like to use my spare time to ride don’t get enough to be constantly fettling…

This is my thinking, it would be ideal to have two sets but I can’t afford or justify 2 sets of Hopes so as I’ve been offered the XTs at a reasonable price I thought it may be a solution but in all honesty I don’t want to compromise if they’re not going to run as free/smooth, are going to be weaker or need lots of maintenance!
