Went today, not worth the visit IMO compared to when i went to the one in Earls Court court a few years ago. Mainly a load of roadie, oddball stuff and niche sh*te.

TJ – i thought you were English despite your pro-Scottish stance on here? Very odd… 😉

Hope you have given SC an opportunity to respond to your disappointment before you came on here and slate them…

Surely the owners could of offered some sort of compensation the OP would be happy with, or an explanation as to the sub standard level of service….and maybe then OP wouldnt of felt the need to come on here and explain

Fair enough if the owner wasnt helping or offering a resolution then the OP has every right to come on here and tell all.

Two sides to every story and all that… 😉

Fair point though – the damage has been done and Mr MC obviously didnt have a good holiday.

I use an unramped chainring, medium cage rear mech, bashguard on outside and a n gear jump stop on inside. Not dropped a chain for months. Did occassionally lose the chain when using a deore (geared) chainring though.

Not ridden in Slovenia but done plenty of walking and exploring. Stunning place, as already said the area around Bovec and Kransjka Gora in the NW on the Italian/Austrian borders.

I run a 1×9 set up and use an N Gear Jump stop, an unramped ring and a bash guard on the outer. Also use a medium cage rear mech and run the chain as tight as possible. Rarely get a drop since i have it set up like this. Did get the odd drop when i used a geared chainring though.

Nothing official, just your licence, but a lot of patience as the drivers out there are IME shocking. Dont ever speed either (100km max) as there will be a copper with a speed gun in the middle of nowhere when you havent passed another car for miles….

NW Alps mainly, ideal gearing round here. I know of at least one other NW Alper who uses 1×9 gearing and also rides adult sized wheels.

Houns – work on the new Gondola is coming on and should be finished by the first snowfall of the season.

wouldnt want a QR on my 29er forks, they are pretty flexy with a maxle

Ive been riding some basic QR Recons for a while now and not noticed them flex at all. Loads of the Yanks over on the 29er MTBR forum ride QR and ive not heard any reports of excessive flex.

Another vote for Slovenia here – moutains in the north west around kransjka gora and bovec very scenic and loads of walking available. Only downaide are flights to Ljubjlana from uk are limited, alternative is to fly into klagenfurt austria or trieste italy.

The garage are trying it on. Its their fault, simple as. The have a duty to carry out work with reasonable care and skill as outlined in the supply of goods and services act 1982 – which clearly they have not.

I did a search via google.de when i was looking a while back and these came out cheap at the time – http://r2-bike.com/Rock-Shox-29er-Reba-RLT_1

I think bike24 were similar in price as well.

If i was to buy again id pay the extra for the Rebas. Some of the online German shops do them for around 300 quid, often post free

Got a set on my Scandal, they are pretty good but lack motion control damping of Rebas so action isnt as good.

Im roughly your height and rode a inbred and 456 for years, but never felt totally happy, perched up high with the saddle up. last year changed to a 29er and the difference is amazing, finally a bike that is in proportion and fits. 29ers might be the flavour of the month on STW, but for me been tall they suit just right.

Stayed in many over the years, but this place is pretty cool. An old converted prison in Ljubljana, Slovenia – the rooms even have a prison door still attached!

I run a medium cage (i think) LX rear mech, standard Deore middle ring, N gear Jump Stop on the inside and a bashring on the outer. Not had it drop yet (6 months) and thats riding local alpine terrain….. 😛

32T x 11/34 here, fine for local rides. Not sure how it would be in the big hills though. Really like the simplicity.

Any opinions on Wyre Forest vs Cannock for riding? I’m not familiar with either.

Both are really good XC rides – Wyre needs local knowledge to get the best out if it though. Cannock has a few way marked trails (Follow The Dog/Monkey trail) which IMO are great fun and well worth the 45 mins trip for me to drive there. There’s also supposed to be good off piste stuff as well, but ive not ridden any of that.

If you are working at the Uni you could try living just south of Brum in North Worcestershire – Bromsgrove/Rubery/Alvechurch area. A short drive/train journey away and much nicer place to live than Brum with countryside/riding on your doorstop. Lots of nasty areas in the city and the city centre nothing special IMO – i rarely visit.
