‘Sadly most people I know (and myself) have a very real problem with the Police. Not cos we’re all drug dealing, gun toting, law breaking criminals, but because we’re law abiding citizens that know we’re policed by a bunch of overpaid and underskilled thugs that know they’ve got the easy life. One guy I knew from uni joined the Thames Valley force. He was well known as the biggest drug dealer in the uni whilst there! He was also a total bully and a thug and used to beat people up regularly just for the fun of it. And he is now policing us!’

Right, so because of some bloke you know at uni who was a tw*t is now a copper, it makes them all like him does it? 😕

    I have no idea what you know about cars, but in my limited experience i would say;

AA/RAC inspections worth it if you dont know your way round a car to check it out mechanically.

The list is endless of what to look for when buying a car; however things like paperwork/service documents to show the cars been looked after and also a way for you to verify the mileage (within reason). Find out when next service is due – the person may be selling just before a major (expensive) service is needed. Same goes for cambelt replacement, if necessary.

Hpi check worth it was well – to see if the vehicle has been written off at any point, any outstanding finance on it and i think they can also provide mileage checks.

Gut feeling plays a part as well – if something doesnt feel right – the car, the person selling doesnt seem genuine – then walk away.

    HTH.

‘…and what they said – Rebas are ace or MX comps’

MX Comps may be cheap and bombproof, but their performance is utter shite compared to modern RS forks.

Mike – this is probably the best deal out there at the minute – <http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&productId=880&categoryId=18>

Forgive my ignorance, but what do the ‘pawls’ do? Are they serviceable, or a part of the freehub unit?

Went to the Alps one year and everybody using Hopes in our group had issues of some sort. I had massive brake fade approaching a switchback with a sheer drop the other side, scary as hell. 😯

Last time out there i was on basic shimano Deore brakes, ‘dragged’ them all week, not a problem.

Used basic square taper (M440) cranks for years now – never a problem. In fact the new frame i am building will have square taper, UN54 with M442 cranks. If it aint broke, etc

HH – forks arrived BTW – cheers! 😀

‘Anyone care to explain the difference between being a fan and a supporter? ‘

Obviously there is definate answer to that – but i would suggest a supporter is one who goes to home and/or away games when finances dictate, and the fact they are local to you might become more believable to opposing supporters…. 8)

Maybe a fan would be someone who hands over £50 for the latest shirt in JJB sports and watches ‘their’ team on Sky and has a go at others on internet forums…. 😉

    My 2p’s worth anyhow.

‘Question: Why are all you lot who are questioning me, on here, rather than watching your teams?’

Because my team are playing tomorrow. Innit, like. 😉

Only Gin, Rum, Whisky and Vodka have to be served in 25ml or 35ml measures, or a multiple of those measures.

You cant just ‘get your money’ back.

Seriously, you wont get a correct answer asking on a MTB forum. Phone <http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/> who will offer you practical civil advice, and if there are further issues to look into will pass it to Trading Standards.

‘total cost of car use is at least 40p a mile’

I dont see how you can put a figure on how much per mile, there are so many variables to affect the figure.

I worked out for my 1.25 Fiesta, over a 5 year period, works out to be roughly 20p per mile. But then i didnt buy the car new…
