Built up a cheap rigid 29er late last summer to give it a go as im 6ft 2″ and never really got on with any bike i had before – always felt too perched with the saddle up. After a couple of rides the 29er was a revelation – it just fitted me so much better and even in rigid form i feel more confident riding this than any 26″ bike i had before.

Currently in the process of getting together some parts to build a nice Scandal 29er in the spring.

There is a lot of b*llsh*t around the ‘niche’ aspect of 29er’s, but i ride one as they work for me been tall.

I wouldnt bother for the risk. Focus’s are one of the most popular cars on the road, so there’s loads of goods ones (with a FSH) available to choose from and there will be another one around the corner. IMO, etc etc

However if you do buy it, pay for the deposit by credit card – that way you are covered by the credit card company as well if you have any problems with the car in the near future (that applies to anything you buy over £100 actually)

1kcove – went for the 1×9 set up as i had the bits lying around and was trying out the 29er thing for the first time, so wanted a simple bike.

Its fine for my local rides for a few hours, but im not fit enough to ride without a granny ring on proper hills!

Could be considered to be an offence of a misleading price indication under the Consumer Protection Act 1987.

Odd mistakes are acceptable but a consistent pattern/practice of misleading pricing by a trader is a criminal offence.

My brother got a Boardman FS recently on a mega deal over Xmas, think it was £1200 intially but got it for £800. Anyway, even a full price would be good VFM – Reba Maxles, Monarch rear shock, Avid Exilir brakes, SRAM, etc. Few things were sh*te – narrow tyres, crap saddle and it wasnt built well at all (various loose bolts) but bear that in mind they are a bargain.

    N Gear jump stop on inside and bash on outside;

Pic here (sorry dont know how to link) http://nwalps.fotopic.net/p66851027.html

Also use a MTB short cage rear mech which keep the chain a bit tighter.

Back to the OP, Prince William shows the same immaculate level of taste in his footy teams as he does in his brides to be and he is indeed a Villa fan.

Ive just bought a TZ8 just for the same reasons as you – i fancied a new compact but also with manual controls to learn a bit more about photography. First impressions are really good, seems easy to work out and the few photo’s i have taken certainly appear to be clearer than my old Canon.

Just got to learn a bit more out the basics of all the settings to get the best out of it.

Using 32T with 11/34 cassette here, with an N Gear jumpstop and bash guard to keep the chain on. That’s riding alpine terrain as well….

did over 70k miles and it never missed a beat.

Yeah, but what was it like *after* you’d run it in?

Well i bought it with 40k on the clock, the point i was making was a car that was 8 years old and did another 70k miles in the next 8 years without issues was pretty good IMO….

1992 Vauxhall Nova 1.2i. Had it 8 years, did over 70k miles and it never missed a beat. Even i could do mechanical work on it (simple car and easy to work on) and it did 45mpg no matter how you drove it, got over 50mpg on long drives. Great car.

Im running bash on outer, 32T ramped Deore ring and N Gear jump stop. Using a short cage MTB rear mech and a fairly tight chain. Not a problem since i fitted it a few months back.

You could go to Morzine and go up the Pleney lift, ride down the DH course and repeat (just like the MBUK yoof crew seem to be doing last time i went)

Would be pretty boring though after a while….
