Conundrum. You *can* open drop down menus using tab, the difficult part is telling the computer you want to tab through menu items, not items on desktop or in the window on firefox for example.

Can you use a mouse to hover? Or is it broken totally?

I have to say there are lots of people who spend the cash on apple products without having an iota of knowledge about how they work, then blame the product saying blah blah blah it doesn’t work, overpriced piece of crap blah blah.

so your body fat is 10% you’re over 6ft, 12 st and “lean with good muscle – quote from other thread” and you can plank for 90 seconds? That doesn’t add up man, AT ALL. lol I’ve seen chubby people at the gym who are 14st plank longer than that. I’m publicly calling BS on you.

Wow this thread turned into a self promotional willy wagging session didn’t it. “Yeah lads, i’m 6ft, 11st, pretty much perfect for blasting my road races haha. I eat shit loads of cake but my 12 packs pretty good right now. My body fat is around 4% right now, so not up to my usual level but pretty decent haha”. Guaranteed 5/10 people who say this are actually 5ft 8 and 15st.

verging on too skinny and look great/buff nekkid. I am lean at the moment – around 10% body fat, with some reasonable muscle definition (not too bulky)

Is this a fekkin gay singles ad or what? Seriously… no one wants to hear you bragging about how fit/buff your wife thinks you are. Pics or it didn’t happen – ooh the double irony lol

I’m just deciding this myself. Think ill go with the i7 as the price difference isn’t huge.

Performance is better overall basically. Did you go with 2.7 or 2.9ghz? Thats the crucial thing, the i7 is just an optional extra really. It will cope with i5 perfectly if you just use it for web office and photoshop stuff.

FFS not this again. Why are people who don’t own or plan to buy Apple products so obsessed with them?

Because deep down they yearn for something better than their dell.

My 3 month old MBP USB port has died

Sorry but this seems far fetched to me :p if it’s true – no biggie. Ring them and send it back for warranty repair. They might just send you a new one. Did you drop it? Unless there is a connection issue – usb ports don’t just die. It’s usually that some solder has fallen off or something.

On the issue of strength, my current MBP (2010) was dropped be me last year in a toilet cubicle. Was in my messenger bag, on a peg on the toilet door. The peg broke off and I watched helplessly with a mixture of toilet relief euphoria, and complete terror combined as my macbook plummeted to the ground and hit the concrete floor. It landed on it’s corner and the aluminium body around the screen dog eared over the screen. Didn’t crack, still closes, nothing broke. Simply amazing considering it dropped a good 5 or 6 feet onto reinforced concrete.

Yes, what totalshell said is a very rounded, accurate opinion I believe. “i very much regret that this is a perpetual cycle of hate and violence with little to commend on either side. “

I too believe this is true. This issue is far too complex to brand one side as any more guilty than the other. Especially sitting at home in the cosy little UK in your favorite armchair slurping a cup of tea. Perhaps those of you who are doing so, and being entirely racist in suggesting that one side should be wiped out “because it’s what’s coming to them” should A) be ashamed of yourself, and B) stfu.

Anti-semitic?, if you say so, i’ll certainly not lose any sleep over your opinion.

It’s there in black and white, not only did you suggest it, you just confirmed it. The fact that you won’t lose any sleep over it worries me further. In your eyes one form of racism is worse than the other, and yet you criticise one group for being a racist, extremely violent movement whilst essentially suggesting their extinction would be a good thing, based purely on THEIR beliefs and where they come from. Pure filth.

I feel this thread is just another opportunity for the anti semites to come out of the woodwork and preach their hate using a conflict they neither understand nor want to understand. You don’t really care about the people of Gaza, who are living under a terrorist dictatorship, nor do you care for the people of Israel, who’s government is intent on causing chaos.

God that video is annoying. “heyur heyur heyur heyur heyur heyur and heyur. then heyur heyur heyur heyur heyur and heyur.” ARGH STFU and take the thing apart!!

I was and still am very annoyingly naturally skinny. I have to work incredibly hard to stay around 11.5 stone. If I’m ill or whatever, I lose stones within a week or two. No joke.

See all you skinnies who say you eat a lot…….. You know fleck all about eating.

BS :p I eat 7 meals a day. 7 medium sized meals and a crep load of milk, and putting on weight is a massive challenge.

Well, you’re rather anti semitic aren’t you? Wearing your brown shirt today are we?

This thread is full of the usual bunch of conspiracy nuts I see. I’m surprised any of you are fussed over this anyway – isn’t the world going to end in a few weeks anyway?

iTunes is beautiful. What are you on about? You’d rather use that 90’s piece of junk windows media or what?

Disable iCloud if you don’t use it. And your iphones are set up wrong. Ours don’t do that lol

All I will say if I may wrecker, is that whilst the outlay may be dearer to begin with, you may save having to buy yourself another computer for 3 to 4 maybe even 5 years. That’s worth something, and plus you get the best OS there is 🙂

OR) buy loads of bits for your pc, then face the possibility of either bungling the build and ruining the components, or being faced with the same problem a year down the line. Just don’t discount macs straight off the bat because there are so many people slating them in this forum.

Point is mike, it’s all different to budget pc’s.

Mac’s use quality components like panasonic batteries, and the motherboards are excellent.

Imac’s are not built by foxconn – they are assembled in the US by various factories, but the components come from all over the world. None of the components in the imac are made by foxconn, they just do the iphone.

now it can’t even play a flipping video.

Software issue maybe? I.e. drivers for graphics card?

    The hardware is almost identical.

Depends what model, and the only things that are the same are the processor, possibly the power unit, the graphics card and wifi card.

Motherboards, screens, wiring, chassis, cooling methods, psu etc. are all different and make all the difference.

Yes Jamie, sorry. Although if it’s any consolation I have a PC which I built to run 3 hour 3d renderings etc. in the background, and also for gaming. I.E. Skyrim. That’s why I bought it. Skyrim ffs.

It’s a bit of a beast, but in a cheap toshiba case I found lying around. Quad core, lots of ram, big video card etc. yadda yadda.

But it will never replace any of my macs, they have a special place in my heart. And without them I probably wouldn’t earn a dime. Well, I’d be back behind a bar serving drinks or robbing banks or something.

    Will it be as shit?

CATEGORICALLY, UNDENIABLY, NO! Join the church of apple. If you ring them up you can normally wangle them into giving you an extended 3 year warranty free. I’ve owned loads of mac’s and have never had to send anything for repairs. EVER.I think Pc’s grinding down has something to do with the fact they’re made from cheap ass components, the boards and soldering are shite unless you buy the components separately and assemble them and windows tires the shit out of everything it touches. They’re designed to fail within a year or two, because it’s good for business.

I never mentioned apples honour nor pc until someone jumped in and said get a pc instead for half the price, which then lead to ‘pc’s are more reliable’ so I had to!

A computer is a computer, a mac is no more reliable than a pc box.

You say that, but I’ve never been let down by one.

We have gumdrop g3s, mac 128k’s and even SE’s running in the ‘ancient history’ section of our office. None of them have ever broken.

Anyway, why every topic in internet history has to break down into a tit for tat on the subject of mac vs microsoft is beyond me. Pointless argument, each to their own etc.

Dell makes some great machines that last really well. My last laptop did 6 years fine. My current workhorse PC just gets periodic upgrades to keep it on top – small amount each year. Still better value than a Mac.

Yeah what do you do with it though? My macbook pro has done 3 years of none stop 3d rendering, video editing, illustrator, photoshop and web design software use every day of the week, it goes on at 10am, and off at 2am. Will never beat a mac in my eyes. Each to their own, but I do think the ‘value’ offerings out there are a false economy.

    I prefer a depilator.

    You’d have to.

The screen is supposedly an improvement over the last version as the reflection is greatly reduced.

Yeah, i’m sold on the i7 upgrade from i5 as standard, but will probably go with the 21″ version. Have you found lack of cd drive particularly annoying? I can’t for the life of me work out why they would take it out. Either way, I’m getting one and I’m sure I will love it as always.

Pretend (whilst being polite and professional) that every ebayer you deal with is a well versed thief trying to steal money or goods from you until the transaction is complete. You’ll never lose out to someone who tries it on with that degree of paranoia.

Are you posting about this because you’re lonely, or does it genuinely anger you that people would work from home on a friday if allowed to? :p Who on earth would rather go into an empty office to work, than sit up in bed with a cup of cha and read your emails then work in your pyjamas all day? :p

I’d never read the original thread and for the most part, you have to just let it go. Between the red-tops and the funny people you encounter, you’re kind of stuck with the lazy anti-French stuff. On the other hand, the vicious stuff you occasionally encounter is far more likely to offend but then again I guess that’s the point.

It wasn’t intended to offend, it was obviously in a ‘sarcastic’ form of bad taste (that’s kind of the point of some jokes). I’ve apologised, so… yeah that’s all I can do really. Unfortunately the vicious jokes intended to offend, exist for a reason (on both sides of the pond). They exist because England and France were at each others throats for near on 800 years. Some people just can’t move on, and it’s usually the areas where people are struggling that harbor these bitter resentments.

My first comment however, was I believe a fair observation and something I’ve seen time and time again. It wasn’t a criticism of any one country, but of bad behaving kids who just happened to be from country A not B.

And what happens if both of those things happen at the same time?

    You’re stuffed either way.

I’ve cycled in central london for years, never had an accident, because I’m always paying attention. You have to think for everyone else to be safe.

I’ve had my fair share of close calls, usually because of large trucks and blindspots etc.

You can’t please everyone but I don’t have arguments with drivers everyday. I have to shout at someone probably once or twice a week? Sometimes less.

Having grown up bullied at times for being French (half, but the distinction in 70s and 80s Hull wasn’t of importance) and having a mother that spoke differently to all the other women, I don’t find it quite so amusing as you clearly do. Edukator makes his point badly sometimes but his point is any joke based on race, sexuality, age, country of origin etc has the possibility to upset people. Okay, you’re not xenophobic or racist (I don’t know you, not going to sling insults) but there’s a degree of irony that you’re getting upset because Edukator said you might be but don’t understand why he might get upset.

Fair point, and apologies if you found it offensive. It was said with the biggest dose of irony and sarcasm possible. I have nothing against the french, or france. I go there on holiday, we have family friends who are french and have lived in france forever lol. It’s just intended as banter, no different to when I call my mate a douche. I was bullied when I was young too. Doesn’t mean I go around pulling everyone up on any joke they make that at some point was used against me at any point in my life though.

I just felt that calling me a bloody xenophobe was a huge overreaction to something that I made very clear, was a joke in bad taste. If I walked up to a french guy and said it without any suggestion that it was entirely a joke and had no substance, then that’s a different thing all together.

In our agency we work every day to get stuff done well and on time. Sometimes we work from home, sometimes we work in the office on saturday and sunday and don’t sleep. Give and take I guess.

I wouldn’t complain about your company having a grounded but relaxed attitude to working from home. Overworking people does nothing but reduce the quality of their work. The choice of working from home on friday is a nice change for some people.

Who are you Nukeproofing? You rocked up a couple of weeks ago and have since been prolific. Banned and a new login?

In all honesty, I couldn’t care less about your opinion, nor your view that I’m too much of a noob to post anything.

Could I have made it any clearer that that comment was – get this – a joke.
I’d hardly call me posting an observation about school kids misbehaving abroad ‘xenophobia’. How dull are you man? Lighten up seriously. Or attack the OP of that thread – he must be xenophobic too. I grew up in Portsmouth, surrounded by ‘french’ jokes – have you ever been to a pub in calais? They tell jokes about Portsmouth. It’s not a point of grievance, it’s just for a laugh.
