Love working 5 minutes away
Lucky git :p Whistler looks stunning as usual… have to go there within a year or two.
Another nice commie! Love that atherton blue.
I’m loving it ,the 3lb extra weight over the SX is worth it IMO.
I bet that thing munches rocks man! 3lb’s is definitely worth it. Do you even notice the difference in weight?
nukeproofridingFree MemberCrikey, i’ve got better things to do than argue with you and your inexhaustable collection of pseudo intellectual quotes all night lol.
nukeproofridingFree MemberPatriotism is often an arbitrary veneration of real estate above principles.
George Jean Nathanyou can keep quoting people more intelligent than yourself to bolster your argument if you like. Would you like me to go and find some to support my thoughts?
As an internationalist i wish to see solidarity with my fellow humans, those who do not exploit others,
I would like to see that too, but I think that that begins with patriotism. If we can’t unite as a country how can we possibly hope to unite as a planet?
I’m going to stop using the word patriotism, because obviously it has a negative connotation of jingoism that cannot be overlooked by some people here, so I’ll use the word unity instead. Because if we can’t unite as a nation, we can never hope to be any better than we are now. That includes embracing the military as our defenders, and kicking all the btards out of government until we can elect people who listen to us, and want to help others.
I’m oot.
nukeproofridingFree MemberThe lump on that vincent looks huge? Or is it just a small motorcycle?
I once rode a R75 endurance racer, I thought it was the single worst handling bike I’d ever ridden and I’ve ridden a lot
What year? They weren’t exactly the pinnacle of motorcycle development. Sounds like your expectations were somewhat high.
nukeproofridingFree MemberI’ve nearly finished making a new DH/freeride video. It should be done and uploaded sometime next week so I’ll stick up a link on the forum for ya.
Do it! Sounds awesome.
I’m primarily a DH’ller. Although I probably shouldn’t be with the amount of time I end up on the floor lately
I end up on the floor after xc rides more than dh luckily haha. I just like sprinting more I guess :p The weather isn’t exactly in your favour currently though is it? lol
nukeproofridingFree MemberAnother Downhiller and Nuke Proof Scalp owner here.
Pro or comp? :p I got a comp but It’s got some none stock parts. Elixir 3’s (which I haven’t tried yet, little bit dubious about the power they offer because i’ve also been a hope guy but we shall see..) Sdg saddle, sram x9 and xo drivetrain and cassette (xo guide) new tacky minions, sdg fly saddle, rest is stock. Comp frame as well – might have to take a few of the stickers off – they’re well designed I think but just way too many of them. I might get it powdered matte black at some point because I saw a matte black scalp on PB and it looked nuts..
nukeproofridingFree Memberhas made me want a bigger bike somewhat!
2nd hand fully all the way! I buy mine off pinkbike. There are some absolute bargains that pop up there with people who either dont seem to care or dont know what their bike is worth 2nd hand.
Currently planning to try out some uplifts a bit further afield with some mates
Gawton, UKBP and FOD are well worth a day on the uplift! If you want a real challenge Gawton will do it. Go on a busy day and try and keep up with the locals and you improve loads – they’re bloody rapid nutters, so so fast. I couldn’t keep up with them but I improved loads. I think they built a new uplift route since I went last as well – it was nuts before.
I used to be a downhiller but haven’t done it since about 1997.
Next weekend is a fine weekend to start again. We expect to see pictures of your new bike by wednesday and pictures of you riding by sunday. :p
nukeproofridingFree MemberAlso riding a Scalp at the minute, which is by far the best DH bike I’ve ever owned. Aston is my local spot and will be entering all the British champs rounds next year so will no doubt see you around at some point nukeproofriding.
I’m itching to try mine. I took a bit of a hiatus when they were just coming out and now they’re mega popular. Yeah will see you at southern champs at aston next year and probably the british champ rounds too!
Give us a shout if you’re up for this wales trip in early december too. Anyones welcome to come join if they feel man enough to lock horns with deepest darkest wales in december. 🙂
nukeproofridingFree MemberFor my sins, I like this:
That is stunning…
Do it Lank! And make sure you take lots of pictures! What base bike are you going to start with?
nukeproofridingFree MemberIs patriotism a dirty word now? You say patriotism and all of a sudden you’re some jingoistic, pro colonial crusty old Tory smoking cigars with a monocle in one eye whilst throwing darts at a world map and deciding where to invade next?
Can patriotism not mean that in a time of need you stand beside your neighbor, no matter what race creed or ethnicity he/she is and be proud that you stand for and value the same human principles and rights?
I didn’t really expect anything less of a thread of this title in terms of grounding or intellect though.
nukeproofridingFree MemberNo they dont I am not asking them to do anything and I would be just as free if they stopped the expanionist wars.
Then bugger off to somalia and see how life is for you there? If you deplore the actions of our Army so intensely, why are you happy to live, work and profit from the safety that it provides our country? We may not have been invaded in a long time, but if the army didn’t exist, we would be fish food… you know that right?
And of course i’m not saying that every conflict is justifiable, successful or right. But it is a means to an end in many situations. You are a fantasist. Willing problems to vanish does nothing.
To claim that patriotism is a just cause is simple rabble rousing.
I value your opinion, and so does our army. Because without it you probably wouldn’t be allowed an opinion. How can you deny that? Have you ever defended the right to an opinion of others? no.
And don’t put words in my mouth, I never said patriotism is a just cause, I said it should be valued. Not above all else, but valued none the less. You could argue that it should be a worldwide respect for decent values and not ‘patriotism’ and I would agree with that. But that’s a long way off.
nukeproofridingFree MemberNot by me you won’t. Stats suggest that serving in Afghanistan is about as dangerous as working on a farm in terms of deaths per annum. Cannot recall when last our local high street was closed to remember the farmers who died putting food on our tables.
The trolls are out in force then? The armed forces past, present and future deserve our unwavering respect, regardless of political issues – they should not detract from rememberance day. This day is to remember those who have sacrificed all for the protection of our country, and the upholding of values we rightfully want (world or nationwide).
nukeproofridingFree MemberJust a thought:
I’m sure that many people, like me, believe that honouring and remembering those that have lost their lives in war, does not necessarily mean that you approve of or agree with the governments that sent them there in the first place. Surely they are two totally separate issues?
This. Those of you who believe that all wars post ww2 are abhorrently evil should not let that detract from the fact that remembrance day is about remembering those who, past and present, sacrifice their safety to protect us.
There is a feeling in the internet world we live in of cuddly safety, we’re detached from lots of real issues these days and it’s easy for those of you who do, to sit at home in your chair, in the warm to say that all wars are bad. But there are millions upon millions of people out there who would scream to you that it is often a necessary cost to do right. The pen is mightier than the sword until the swordsman pulls his sword on the writer. Those of you who attack the army and everything they stand for, are hypocrites of the highest order because you will hate them until YOU need them.
Patriotism is something we should value, and we should respect our troops in any way possible.
nukeproofridingFree MemberDon’t you just love the narrow minded ones!
Go easy, his lycra shorts are 3 sizes too small and they’re digging into his scrotum.
nukeproofridingFree MemberFirst person to mention what car they drive gets a smack.
and what has body weight got to do with strength?
Bodyweight’s got everything to do with it. If you weigh 10 stone you cannot physically have enough muscle on you to curl 22kg dumbells – that is a fact. And yes your claims are somewhat dubious.
nukeproofridingFree MemberNot sure if I qualify but I like to do the odd uplift day on my Pitch
If you like going downhill and it’s not a flat fire road then of course you do :p
i ride dh
done a few enduros this year too
but im slow!
and based in londonYeah I live in London too, but not all year round, so I get the chance to ride more regularly than I would if I lived in central London 365 a year. PORC is doable by train or car from, but it’s miles to anywhere else.
Having said that, I used to see the occasional
wbanker (or atleast I assume something like that) riding their carbon v10’s and other top dollar bikes on hampstead heath with neckbraces, full faces, goggles, body armour and clips LOLnukeproofridingFree MemberKeep the pics coming guys, ill do my best to get some up of my new steed for the next season in a day or two.
And yeah i’m with you _tom_ I’m the same. I can see the attraction to xc, but it just doesn’t float my boat. I use my road bike a lot so theres just no point me owning an xc bike because it bores me stiff.
Do you all ride year round or are there summer only riders (cough cowards cough) here? :p I’m ill right now and i’m absolutely craving a ride. Torture.
nukeproofridingFree MemberI wouldnt mind betting you could have a lot of fun with that r75 off road too. Just whack on some dirt tyres and you’re sorted.
Some of these Triumphs are astonishing. Wayyy more expensive, but they are the quintessential british cafe racer/tracker combo I think.
I believe the saying that “You never see a bike parked outside a psychiatrists office” is probably true… and I reckon it works with bicycles too 😉 There’s just something about two wheels..
nukeproofridingFree MemberSlightly different flavour – less utilitarian more flat out adrenaline monster.
1965 BSA lightning, 650 odd cc’s – no front brake lol.
And a bmw R75 cafe.
nukeproofridingFree MemberI hate the fact that they’re becoming really popular as custom bikes, as I’ll never be able to afford one now.
I suppose to a degree this is true, but I just think it means you have to accept the challenge and do more if it yourself 🙂 Old banged up but essentially intact bmw’s will never get hugely expensive.
nukeproofridingFree MemberQuit smoking pot. Hippy.
Never smoked in my life. Why are you aggroing me out of nowhere? “My multiple part time contracts are starting to irritate me” hahaha. Social defect much? Is there any light in the cavity in which your head resides?
nukeproofridingFree MemberSo who is/was nukeproofriding then ?
Just come out and say it ! What? I feel obliged and pressured to admit to being some sort of 80’s bond villain whose ingenious disguise has been rumbled by some internet superhero. I is/was nukeproofriding now and ‘then’. What of it? I am here, I am me.
nukeproofridingFree MemberThat view is epic man… I am so envious of anybody who lives in vancouver!
nukeproofridingFree MemberThe only DH idiot I knew on here got banned.
Is that meant to be an insult or…? Are we not wanted? :p I don’t understand lol
nukeproofridingFree Member. . . and was reported stolen on pinkbike.com 4 years ago
4 Years?! So i’m guessing this guy has just bought the bike, it might have changed hands twice or more since it was stolen which probably means a reduced chance of catching the scum bag 🙁 fingers crossed though.
nukeproofridingFree MemberI’ve reported it. I really didn’t want to because I knew I’d get some stick for it and there’d be a decent amount of conclusion jumping but at best it’s now becoming a bitch fest.
THANK YOU to all those who posted respectful replies and were intelligent enough to realise I’ve been handed a sick pup.
Do you not feel that what you said was even just a little bit out of line? You shouldn’t have said it in the first place, let alone on a public forum. Your post didn’t deserve any respectful replies because of the way you talked about this bloke.
nukeproofridingFree MemberIt’s just genetics, but you can load one side to ensure it catches up is what i’ve always been told. If it’s not a big difference, don’t bother trying to change it. Everyone has a dominant side. Mines my right. And despite popular belief it has absolutely nothing to do with the side you use for your “personal time” haha.
nukeproofridingFree MemberWhen you’re a filthy, grotty student then £100 is a significant outlay! Particularly after purchasing a shiny new toy. Maybe I should be pissed at Sony instead? Or with the world at large for being *so* unfair?
When you can afford a £450 camera you aren’t *that* strapped for cash. But I don’t mean to say that being a student is by any means easy these days. I know from personal experience.
nukeproofridingFree Memberbut i’m just finishing a 2010 Giant Glory 00. I’ll post some pictures up when im done!
Yeah post some pics man! Maybe we can carve a little niche for DH here on STW.
Transition Covert, only ride up to come down…
Get to the Alps whenever I can, did FOD earlier this year with flyup downhill on the Transition day. Ahhh… riding up. Something I rarely do hahaha.
Empire AP1 for me plus just built a 2012 Nukeproof Mega (first outing tomorrow)
I really liked the Ap1’s when they came out! I really like the lateral thinking they applied to their frames. How does it ride though?
I thought this was a roadie forum?
I thought it was a general mtb forum hence the name single track? Could be wrong though…
nukeproofridingFree MemberNice to know there are a few of us on here. Yeah I used to be on ride.io (when it was SDH) alot.. but like you say it’s a shame because it has gone a bit quiet. I don’t know whether its because of the name change but either way Rob and the guys who run it really deserve a busy forum. I try to use it as much as poss but just haven’t been using forums until recently.
If anyone hasn’t ridden Gawton i’d definitely recommend it as somewhere you can really push yourself in the UK.
Me and some mates are planning a little road trip to wales in early december so if any of you fancy riding some of the tracks in the south of wales for a long weekend in december let me know! We’re staying at a mates house and maybe camping one night so if you’re all man enough 😉 We’ve got a landy with a winch just in case Wales is like it always is in december haha.
nukeproofridingFree MemberIs the top picture an r80 boxer by the way? I want one… really bad.
this thread is either good or bad timing for me. i’ve had motorbikes on my mind for months now
Me too man. I’ve been planning my purchase of an r6 in a month or so but I’m getting drawn to doing up cafe racer or something. I’m assured by a friend that if I find one that is essentially mechanically sound, then all the work you need to do to make a decent looking cafe is not
hugely difficult.Anyone here ripped the plastic off a retro bike and turned it into a cafe before?
nukeproofridingFree MemberOne of the best films made in my lifetime. That is all. I just wish there was a weenie bit more action, but I know that had to sacrificed somewhat to make it the classy movie it was. Cinematography was legendary, and much more deserving of recognition that Winding Refn’s direction I feel.
nukeproofridingFree MemberSo you’re angry with Adobe for releasing a new software version because you have the old version… and it doesn’t support your camera. Put them in jail and THROW AWAY THE KEY lol.
£100 really isn’t that bad to be up to date on your software if you use them regularly anyway dude 🙂
There are lots of free RAW convertors out there that are industry standard. Have you been using image capture previously?
nukeproofridingFree MemberIt was bitten through by my dog during a half hour of fireworks where I live dave.. Fascinating isn’t it. What baffles me is why you’re so interested in jumping on the bandwagon? Another big man. :p
Now someone delete this character assassination thread?
nukeproofridingFree MemberIf price is an issue – buy a good 2nd hand bike. You know how quickly they depreciate in value when they leave the shop floor. You can find 2nd hand am bikes in as new condition for a fraction of their cost new if you keep your eyes peeled.
nukeproofridingFree MemberTalledega nights
Jay and silent bob strike back
Blades of gloryThese…
nukeproofridingFree Memberexcuse me?
I’ll say it again …
nukeproofriding – what a ghastly creature you are, why not go back under your bridge.
And give us a break from spouting crap.
I don’t understand why you would latch on to me when I was essentially arguing the same point as you… but I guess anything you say goes around here because you are a girl?
Please give me a genuine reason for me being a ghastly creature and why i’m guessing you are inferring that i’m a troll. Is this something to do with crikey thinking I used this forum before or?…
Give me a break from your malformed opinions, your pseudo intellectual use of Shakespearean English made me throw up a little into my mouth lol. “ghastly creature”?
nukeproofridingFree MemberThis is the one freeridenick was talking about – lovely looking thing.
It’ll have crap brakes, be uncomfortable, slow and due to its unreliability you’ll never ride it.
Ugggh I bet you ride an sv or a gtr1400 or some boring piece of overpriced commuter junk like that.
