because the captain loves bashing evans no matter what, along with “the other 10-15 people” that crazy legs rightly states love slagging evans……….

No, he’s got any opinion as have I and as have many people, good or bad, and everyone is freely entitled to post their opinion and allow others to come to their own conclusion.

Robin offer was very kind and i intend to take him up on his offer, and i will let everyone know how it goes, hopefully it may change some opinions.

Good luck with the service and credit to Robin/Evans although they would have to be nutters to get the good publicity that your free service offer brings and then screw up the servicing of your fork 😉

The same 10-15 people on STW crop up on every single Evans thread with the same tired old stories.

Generally I find that’s not actually the case in that if a thread on any shop is started and people have an opinion, good or bad, they will be happy to share it.

Frankly the most important thing for me is my own experience and I am sorry to say that Evans have consistently disappointed me with their level of service and, if I was spending my money on a fork service it would not be at Evans. If you happy with Evans, then good for you, I’m genuinely pleased for you but, as previously stated, my opinion has not changed.

im just waiting for captain wots his name to comment again…….

    Why?

One post from Evans and the offer of a free service and thats it, all those customers who have had poor service must have been wrong and those that did complain are the minority. Fair credit for the OPs free service but it hasn’t changed my opinion on Evans

Robin here is obviously very experienced and knowledgeable.

…and how did you deduce that?

Also, in addition to the Avid instructions, make sure you force additional fluid in prior to removing the syringes.

Eh? Where does OP say he needs V brakes: surely he means ‘Cotis Soul versus ????’

So how many people have actually used Evans then?
Did you get a good service?

My brother took his Klein Palomino in for a service: total bill was £200, think they serviced the rear shock and replaced the chain. Its a taboo topic at family events 🙄

Late last year I got a tracker rate as we figured interest rates would drop as the US and Europe had. Fortunately we managed to get a term tracker at 0.85% above base and it came into effect in December…which was nice.

However, can you see rates going lower? I’d say no so I’d get a fix rate. However given the fixed rates on offer are well over the 1% base rate by several percentage points (as opposed to when you could get them at less than 0.5% above base) you might be better off sticking on your present mortgages variable rate

Wow! Its so big the 29er wheels look normal/26″ relative to the frame size

Rode through some feshly cut hawthorn the other day: 5 sodding punctures in the rear tube, 3 in the front! Repaired them all…patches are still cheaper than replacements (plus why bin a perfectly repairable tube?).

Various depending on frame: what frame? I use 118mm on my Inbred

As a fan of square taper not much of an authority but surely it wold make sense to get one where you can replace the bearings like one of the Hope offerings? They are more money initially but in the longer run it would seem cheaper

Maybe, but short of riding along tow paths there’s not much you can do, if you’re going down a hill, the back brake will likely not keep your speed in check whatever you try and do.

Well, iirc you’re a Surrey Hills local and so am and I’ve survived so far so will just have to disagree on that 😀

…or maybe its the sheer awesome power of my Avid rear brake 😉

    nukeproof

The rear is far less useful, it offers much less power

Mmmm, maybe but if I knew I only had one brake I wouldn’t be cycling like I had two and, on that basis, I rid well within my limits and prefer to have the rear.

Just a front brake: maybe Just a rear brake: not a cat in hells chance!

Hmmm, I’m the opposite particularly if wet conditions: no way I’d want to bring the bike to a stop on just the front brake. Braking on the front in corners with the thought of the front tyre washing out puts me off as well.

After a few experiments with cheap disc pads, I’ve cycled many a mile with one or no brakes 😉

I’ve got a sand coloured Inbred and put a brown Charge saddle on it: it looked shit so I put a black one on it

Brown saddle like the Spoon just clashes with the frame colour IMHO

    what is a 0-0 456?

    Sorry…I meant On-One 456 😳

better to stay at home and watch paint dry?

Yep. Went out on Tuesday which was fun as it was still snow but now its melting its just slush and mud.

Its a bit tricky as there is so many bikes out there and most are fun to ride but I understand your point regarding the Cannondale. I know these choices sound predictable but just to start the ball rolling as it were, I’d say if it was FS, a Spez Pitch and if it was hardtail, a 0-0 456.

As others, always pay it off each month.

However might switch back to cash as its so easy to buy on CC as the money is not tangible like if you’ve got cash and I find I’m far more hesitant when purchasing with cash.

Late in the day but thought I get my penny’s worth in…

The whole story seems to be one of contridictions to me: on the one hand this is somebody who’s income has previously been based very much on publicity and ‘celebrity’ and, on the other, the current tragic reasons for that publicity being generated.

On the one hand I don’t believe the public like being reminded of their own mortality but at the same time people will be encouraged to face this and seek help if they have medical concerns.

Again, on the one hand, I wish Jade and her family well and understand that the additional publicity can provide financial security for her children but, at the same time, I have no interest in reading about her or other so called celebrities on the front of all the red tops and magazines and I very much dislike the ‘celebrity’ bandwagon which is generated from this media.

Why bother risking buying SSC? There’s equally/almost as cheap but more proven/reliable alternatives out there for the components they flog. Its not like the reviews are consistently coming in recommending them.

    nukeproof

Yeah, I know but after a spot of red wine I fancied a mild rant at what is deemed to be a celebrity. I’m off to find a thread on the merits of Superstar components now 😉

Reckon its going to be tough for On-One particularily as they’ll now be in competition with the new CRC brand thing.

One thing that did impress me with On-One was that it did keep evolving the brand from SS to 29ers to hardcore hardtails to ti hardcore hardtails. They might find a replacement frame designer but its going to take a lot to find someone who can keep that momentum going in keeping the brand current IMO and the On-One range could look tried quickly.

In marketing terms its all about as annoying as getting a DVD box set of the complete Iceland adverts with a bonus DVD of the Direct Line commercials.
