are you serious? my wife even knows the makes and models of my bikes, i go on about them so much.

there’s no way you’d spec a bike like that and then expect to sell it on ebay without at least mentioning the model and some of the spec.

My wife has no idea about my bikes and just because you would do something a certain way does not mean someone else would.
One of my mates has a 3k freeride bike and I keep having to remind him what model it is and he relies on me to order parts etc, I specced the bike for him as he hasn’t got a clue. I imagine if he tried to sell his bike without me his ad would look like this. In fact this thread just proves that STW is peopled with a bunch of kneejerk intellectual snobs.

It may well be knicked, but then it might not.

Maybe he cannot be arsed to post what model it is. I think you are all just projecting your own prejudices in a big way.

What exactly marks this out as being stolen? What exactly is blatant about it?
I dunno if this isn’t a bit hasty, I know lots of genuine riders who make good money, who cannot string a coherent sentence together. Just because someone does not fit the STW stereotype of a typical reasonably edumacted fat middle aged IT manager does not mean he cannot afford to own and sell a nice bike.

Whilst spotting nicked bikes is admirable, imagine if it was genuine, if it was me I’d be after the OP’s head..

Consider a set of 650mm wide bars at 120 mm, 100mm, 50mm and 40mm from the steering axis.
The distance from the steering axis to the tip of the bar is 346mm, 340mm, 328mm and 327mm respectively. So the change in distance of arc length varies by at most 2mm for a 5 degree bar turn, or 14 mm for a 45 degree bar turn. You decide if its significant.

    measure of angle/360 = L/Circumference.

    (5/360)*(2pi*r) = L

    r 5deg arclength 45deg arclength
    346 30.1788888889 271.61
    340 29.6555555556 266.9
    328 28.6088888889 257.48
    327 28.5216666667 256.695

My personal preference is for short stems as I reckon that a smaller cockpit gives more control. You make smaller movements of the body to shift your weight forward or backward, so you can do weight transfers faster.

How can a shorter stem quicken steering?

The further your hands are away from the headset, the increased length your hands need to travel for the same angle rotated (greater arc length) so it feels faster because you move your hands less distance for the same angle change.

I would say it has transformed my riding. BUT I think the less fit you are the more difference it will make, I’m fat and useless an need my saddle under me if I’m pedalling, but my mate who is a human whippet rides with this saddle at half mast all the time and just stands up when he needs to make an effort.. He thinks uppy downy seat posts are a gimmick, I think they are awesome.

That defines the discussion for me, almost anyone who says they are a WOT will probably be fit and anyone who raves about them is likely to be fat or unfit. (although I am not saying fit people will hate them and fat people will love them, but I reckon the majority of haterz will be fit and the majority of lovers will be fat)

A great place to learn is Sri Lanka, laid back waves, warm water no real dangers. Also some better waves for if you improve..

Yeah it might seem unfair but you could argue that it’s essentially good for the British economy to keep good relations with India regarding foreign students, and maybe wider business. How can this be seen as a bad thing? It seems plausible that the costs of this PR operation will be more than outweighed by the gains in keeping foreign students coming here. All good IMHO.

The blur will be fine, I think the most benefit is to be had from riding a bike you will ride at home. After going to morzine three times I bought a dh bike but I use it here on uplifts and push ups too.

Lots of morzine/portes du soleil is decending on nice singletrack, mucho fun on any bike. The only true DH (like hell rooty big drops and lumpy as) is only a small percentage of the riding.

I did not find that at all funny. I’m not being prurient, laugh at midgets all you want, but it just wasn’t funny.

Preferring xc over going downhill to do fast corners and jumping is like quitting sex so that you can spend more time perfecting your chat up techniques.

You need to find a witness who saw the driver do this and get them to report it.

I don’t ride brakeless but I find that I teach myself not to “comfort brake” by riding certain sections with my fingers not covering the brakes, its pretty good. I’m a bit of chicken and only do it on sections I’ve done before, I have learned to scrub speed by zigzagging/attempting to drift on the way into something where I want to modulate speed (I’m crap at this so it looks lame but you can kill your speed). It’s helpful. I know its not the same thing but I can see how on certain trails you could ride brakeless..

Furiously hunting for the research paper that shows that colonic irrigation is useless and possibly dangerous. Was shown it by a relative who had colon cancer and whose botty Dr told her that irrigation was snake oil.

It is through a charity/trust arrangement, which I have no doubt is totally above board. To be honest, after Stoners point about their assets maybe in negative equity I feel a bit ashamed for even posting without finding out more. I shall find out more.

I’m not after my money back, I gave it, so its gone. I hope the child gets the treatment and recovers.

I don’t think its a “scam” as such, because I know of the family and the story through friends, so I do not really want to name and shame, as I do know the child is very ill. I guess I just think it’s a bit cheeky to ask for money when you have access to plenty.

I have been told about the assets by other parties, including some very, very close to the child’s parents, but I do not have verifiable proof that these assets exist. I think, and hope, that there is a good reason why they haven’t liquidated their own assets as yet.
