i took a T25 torx bit and ground about 1mm of the bottom, this takes of the very slight taper and leaves you with a tool that engages fully in the very shallow disc heads. No problems anymore!

So many professional bike designers on here, never realised!

Am I to assume that its a 456 Carbon or nothing then?

As long as it pulls enough cable, it should work fine. As much as SRAM claim it has to be the specific shifter, seems just about any shifter should work – I have run XT before and now using gripshift!

    Hi Chris,

I think the 180s are 10 or 20mm taller than the 160s, but as i said with a zero stack headset or a little more sag its not much difference at all.

Sometimes the front lifts a bit on steep climbs, just have to adjust my body weight forward a touch to compensate when it happens. Also the climb position on the CTD shock seems to help by keeping the rear suspension more firm, meaning you are not tipping backwards too much. On the flat, no issues at all.

I have been running Fox 36 180mm TALAS on my Carbon Nomad for the last six months or so. Lots of “enduro” type riding, grind up and then bomb down.

Used the TALAS once and tried it for 10 seconds, handling felt strange, after that never touched the TALAS again… but on the descents, this bike can handle anything. Far more capable than my SOCOM with Boxxer teams.

What I will say is I got the 1 1/8 steerer and used a zero stack headset, zero rise 50mm stem and Raceface low rise bars, so all this helps to keep the front end a reasonable height.

OK, so you are are offering a revolutionary chain ring that manages, amazing as it may sound, to offer chain retention when used in conjunction with a chain guide?

I dont quite get why, if Hora is such an expert in arcane frame dynamics, he has to ask such questions repeatedly on bike forums? I am surprised he is not the head designer for Specialized by now frankly…

This cuts both ways… for years I had an obsession with light weight bikes and spent far too much of my riding time mincing around on bikes barely suitable for even light offroading… gradually I have realised burlier bikes suit me much better and my riding has improved dramatically… never been happier than now with my Carbon Nomad with 180mm forks… embrace the Gnar!

Maybe you need to look at your riding?

Its a known issue with Nomad C with 1×9 or 1×10 drivetrain and DH chainguides, threads on MTBR. Since a 456 Evo carbon will probably see similar setups and some abuse, thought best to mention.

Admittedly, if you only ride to shops and back, this may not be an issue…

Of course… But when the chain bounces and hits it, it sounds like a gun going off.

They are very noisy, and prone to falling off. The one on my carbon Nomad has been covered with self amalgamating tape to help with both things… Along with the rest of the chainstay.

Why dont you just fit a spacer…. whatever anyone says, it certainly looks like it needs one…

I recently got a Nomad C with Fox CTD shock, my first plan was to change to CCDB Air as I have been extremely unhappy with Fox air shocks on other bikes including VPP systems. However I have to say the CTD has been a massive and pleasant surprise, not feeling any mid-stroke wallowing at all, just good controlled travel. The three settings are seemingly ideal as well, which is a bit alien to me as I am a true suspension “tinkerer” and had assumed I would in no way be happy with “stock” tune.

In summary, maybe give the CTD a try… its a lot cheaper than the CCDB Air and the three settings available really seem to deliver…

Audi A6, well out of warranty, took it in for fluids (oil, coolant) before a long trip. Idiots somehow removed the coolant hose connection to the cylinder head and didnt reconnect, resulting in the car pissing out all the coolant after about 200 meters. Luckily stopped right away.

How can they be a competitor if they are owned by the same company? They get the total revenue of all sales regardless.

I would get money back from CRC and then probably try to somehow press that back in to shape… with a deep cup headset probably would be fine.

DO NOT try and switch it on!

Put it in a bag of rice (uncooked…) for a couple of days, the rice will absorb all the moisture inside… this has worked for various phones and gizmos in our house… hope it helps

The craftsmanship is top notch, of course, but that head angle looks crazy steep… or is it just the angle of the photos…?

Sorry, it’s a grown man that dresses up like a bat to fight crime. It’s stupid.

So says someone on a website for ageing middle class men who dress up in baggy shorts and ride bikes around in the mud all weekend

I had a huge crash at the end of 2010 and smashed my collarbone, as well as generally messing myself up big time.

The strangest thing about it in hindsight was that one finger of one of my Fox gloves was ripped off, and never to be seen again. Maybe it vapourised? Bizarre.

Anyway, I am sure my hands would have been a mess without the gloves.

I live in Panama. These kids literally ride miles and miles everyday on these tiny old little BMXs

Nothing more embarrassing than when you are struggling up a climb on your $7k full sus and a little kid with 15 pounds of rice sacks strapped to the back of his bike flies past you like you are standing still

First time or not, he was the Captain of the vessel and responsible for it’s safe navigation and the safety of people onboard. Sailing a 300 meter vessel less than 300 meters away from the shore, he deserves everything he gets. People died directly because of his actions.

Wasted countless hours playing split screen with my bro. He used to be able to set proximity mines at all the spawn points so that when he killed you, you would then spawn on a mine, die, spawn on a mine, die, spawn on a mine… I hated him for that ability.
