Bugger. I know it is only early in the year but I had a bit of a streak going but now I’ve got a deep pain in the front of my right hip where sitting down is painful. The hip is also clicking a lot.

Is this an impingement? I’ve tried googling and youtube but there is so much crap to wade through and my regular stretches don’t seem to be helping.

Would appreciated any advice, as I really don’t want to be without running whilst locked down.

    Cheers.

If a session calls for 800m to be run in 3:26, what pace (in min/km) would these be run at?

Thought I had worked it out but Garmin is making me doubt my (admittedly ropey) maths after completing the workout…

Having used the Alpkit Gamma 3 a few times now, I think my previous post was a bit unfair, I was thinking solely of the brightness of the rear light on its own but coupled with the wide beam pattern on the front, you are quite noticeable running on the roads. For £20 I am impressed.

    @Andy_Sweet well said.

I wanted a new head torch with red rear light now that I’m doing more road running at night so I ordered the Alpkit Gamma 3.

Received and tested today and the rear light is not very bright at all, I would liken it to a cheap rear bike light.

Can anyone suggest an alternative? £30 tops, the Onnight 710 from Decathlon looks quite good…EDIT – scratch that, I mistook the battery as being a rear light lol

@lotto Thanks for that, my watch apparently uses the Sony chipset so that could explain it, its been fine today though oddly.

@lunge, did another 12km in the Streak 7s today and they felt great, do you think that Nike will discontinue the streak range now in favour of carbon plate shoes? Seriously considering stocking up on some…

In other news, Garmin seems to behaving itself today after turning it off then on again, will keep an eye on it.

Missus has the forerunner 30 which is very easy to use (if a bit basic), can be found very cheap too!

Happy new year everyone, just been for the first run of 2021 with the missus.
Slight issue, my Garmin was adding on around 240m per km (known route) and when uploaded to Connect the track has gone mental. Has anyone had a similar problem? Have turned it off and will see if it behaves itself tomorrow.

Also tried out my new Nike Streak 7s, first impressions are good, very light and seem to propel me forward slightly compared to my old shoes.

Has anyone got a copy of Runner’s World Run Less Run Faster? I bought a copy the other day with the aim of following it in the new year but am a bit confused, do you start on Week 12 (5k plan, longer distance plans are 16 weeks) in the table or Week 1?

Also treated myself to Forerunner 45 Plus after using the very basic Forerunner 30 for the past couple of years. The difference is night and day in terms of programming intervals, one less thing to think about whilst puffing away with the beeps telling what to do.

    Cheers.

Secondary school was awful for me personally, the teachers just did not have control of classes and those of us who wanted to learn suffered as a result. Parents separated just as my GCSEs started, we lost the house and had to move into a caravan. I really withdrew into myself during this time as I desperately tried to conceal this fact from my classmates. They all found out anyway and were quite hurtful with it. Completely failed my GCSEs and developed a personality trait that I can’t shake.

Fast forward to college, having retaken my GCSEs I managed to get onto a BTEC in engineering. What a waste of time, tutors never taught us and essentially we were confined to a computer room for two years, we did zero hands on stuff. Although I passed with distinctions, I didn’t feel equipped to be an engineer upon leaving and subsequently decided against uni.

I work in a job I like now but come into contact with engineers frequently and I am always left feeling inferior which I hate. I am 28 and would love a career and not just a job but am not sure how to go about it.

My local TK Maxx is selling some Montane bits and pieces cheap, just picked up 2 Octane gridded fleeces for £10 each. Might be worth a look if you have a store near you (I know it varies wildly between stores).

Have been on an awful losing streak on Chess.com lately, Kiz92 if anyone wants a game. Normally play 30min rapid.

There is one on Amazon lightning deals at the minute, looks pretty good value for the price.

I’d go for one but probably wouldn’t use it lol.

Just a heads up, Amazon have the Naturehike Mongar Ultralight 2 on offer today for £119.20 down from £150, believe it is a clone of one of the Big Agnes designs?

I like the look of the Alpkit Fortitude waterproof jacket, not sure what fabric is used though and how it might compare to other brands.

Can we really blame this increase of infections on people not adhering to the rules? Admittedly just a small snapshot but compliance where I live has been very good.

If you have a reasonable length commute (driving) like I do, stick boots in passenger footwell with heater directed on them full blast. Appreciate this isn’t the most convenient method though.

I understand that the players broke the Barbarians covid code of conduct, but surely the restaurants/pubs visited were covid secure and the actual risk very low?

There were some savings on Naturehike tents on Amazon Prime Day, Might be worth holding out until Black Friday and see if they have any deals on? Think Amazon might sell the Lanshan too.

Like the OP, I’m planning next year’s trips. Only thing keeping me sane now the nights are drawing in!

Any recommendations for a watch (non GPS) with an altimeter function for around £100?

Subscribed to the OS Maps online, wow! Have spent the morning printing and laminating maps, still getting to grips with plotting routes but first impressions very good.

Thanks guys, good to know that these can be problematic, if I can find new ones I’ll change when doing discs and pads.

Brave Dave has posted a follow up vid about this incident, would link to it but I’m on my new phone and can’t figure out how, sorry!

I got a pair of these for my birthday this year, wasn’t expecting much but for the price they are pretty good. The included phone camera adapter is junk though.

@DavidB, respect, we are aiming for around 20 hours. Doing this with my Dad, just hope his new hip holds out😁

In other news, my girlfriend treated me to some Alpkit carbon trekking poles (subsequently broke on first outing, glue failed on one of the flick lock mechanisms). Never having used them before, I can see how they might be useful with a big pack + uphills and it was cool getting into a rhythm with them on long stretches, but I’m still not sure if I’ll use them regularly. Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Planning an attempt on the Welsh 3000s next summer, currently reassessing my gear, may try to go lighter, either way, it’s going to be a long day out!

Mandatory in my gym to have the NHS app installed and scan the QR code before every session. This despite already having individual key fobs and a booking system.

Spend a bit more on the Lowa Renegade GTX, deals are out there dependent on size. Well regarded boot, I’ve had mine for 7 years, very hard wearing with strong components. Vibram soles are great on wet rocks too.

Was recently looking at the entry level Lowa boots for my GF and the quality is noticeably different.

Thread hijack and possibly a very dull question. What pen for tracing routes on the OS Explorer Active laminated maps? Currently thinking whiteboard marker but may not be durable enough. Unfortunately don’t have one to hand.

I haven’t chosen to live here. I’m 28 and lived here since I was 9. Almost got to the 20% mortgage deposit then I’m away mate.

I know my op might sound snobby and anti tourist but it really isn’t. I think scotroutes really hit the nail on the head with his post.

Of course I have sympathy Weeksy. Just found the increased numbers of tourists hard to deal with. Numbers increased by tourists who would have otherwise holidayed abroad.

Think the lifting of restrictions on July 4th was very short sighted by the government.

@markoulini really appreciate the offer, but I’m down in the southeast unfortunately.

Yeah, essentially want to get him to the point he is comfortable going by his self, then I’ll go occasionally. Think he belongs to some FB groups but compared to sea (shore) fishing, carp fishing looks like serious business which might intimidate him, thinking he has to have all the gear.

    Thanks guys!

Depending on where you are based. I’ve got a C02 powered SMK XS78 in .22 you can have for nothing. Been in the garage for years so might need new o rings etc but there are lots of guides on the net and parts are very cheap. I’m just outside Chichester West Sussex btw.
