@Freester – Check out a poster called Plastix on Britmodeller who brush paints all his builds, his results look airbrushed.

Thanks John, I did use Humbrol Decalfix on the Corsair but it left a funny residue on the gloss coat (Revell clear gloss spray). I normally use thinned Humbrol Gloss Cote but cleaning the jar on my airbrush is a bit of a chore. Will experiment with micro set/sol next…

@Freester – thanks for the kind words, undercarriage fitted and painted and just need some nice weather to spray some matt top coat on. Not 100% happy with it but it is only the 3rd kit that I have finished as an adult and I’ve learnt loads.

Not sure what to build next. My airbrush runs off canned air and is very basic so I am sticking to single colour paintjobs at the moment.

I bought this from the Hobbycraft sale: https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/revell-f_16d-tigermeet-2014-model-kit-172/656078-1000 but am a bit intimidated by the decals.

I’m following your thread on Britmodeller by the way – nice work!

This is turning into the Corsair thread it seems – Good work @Freester

Decals applied yesterday, gloss coat looks horrible…

    Revell 1/72 Corsair

Landing gear and aux fuel tanks to finish next then a panel line wash before matt topcoat.

Given the thread title, would anyone be up for a Christmas group build?

No real theme in mind although maybe keep it to kits under £10 and document the builds on this thread. For an added twist I did have an idea about gifting the completed model to another modeller taking part (recipient drawn at random) in time for Christmas – Incentive to do a good job on the model then!

Happy to organise if there is interest but we will need to start soon.

@Harry_the_Spider – Needed for some remedial work on my Corsair build! Razor saw is awesome, not sure I’ve got the hang of the scribing tool yet – still have a tendency to wander like when using a craft knife.

Harrier looks great, what scheme are you doing? Also what ever became of your Victor build(s)?

    @Freester
    – Managed to get one colour but the other one was out of stock, think I can mix the right colour though so all good🙂

@Freester – This past week I have been building the same Revell Corsair kit as you – I feel the part count is too high for a small kit that doesn’t fit together particularly well. Not really enjoying it to be honest.

PSA – 25% off Revell kits on the Hobbycraft website as part of their Black Friday offering.

OP – well worth looking at Siemens Solid Edge you can get a free full featured academic version.

People write it off as a Solidworks copy but it really isn’t. You can make changes on the fly or use a history based mode

Its heavily 3D biased but you can (within reason) take a 3D solid and flatten it into a pattern to then export as a dxf.

@lunge – I love my Streak 7s, but they are on over 400km now😟 fantastic shoe. Think the Zoom Rival Fly might be a potential replacement, will have to wait til payday though.

Has anyone had any success stretching their running shoes? If so how?

I’ve just bought some Hoka Rincons and finding then ever so slightly narrow in the toe box, I don’t think going up a size will help either.

    @mogrim
, 250km is simply insane, massive respect, can’t wrap my head around people covering such distances.

Had a very similar issue early in the year, I found holding a deep squat for a few minutes everyday really helped. I couldn’t initially squat low enough without toppling backwards, I found that holding a light kettle bell in front of me helped counter balance me when holding a deep squat.

@nixie Thanks, do you know which model it is? Happy to cover postage.

I have got a USB cable with four connectors on it, presumably I can use this with the gpio pins?

Knocked just over 30 seconds off my 5k pb last night with a 22:00.76, would love to break 20mins but at 5’7″ and 90kg I’m not really built like a runner.

Looking for a lighter trail shoe, currently using Salomon Speedcross but these feel a bit clompy to me.

The Salomon Sense Ride 2 has caught my eye as have the Nike Wildhorse 7s. Does anyone have any experience of these?

Had LASIK back in 2013, no issues so far (touch wood), cost about £3000 from memory. Consultant would not let me have surgery until I had turned 21 for some reason?. One of the best things I’ve ever done.

I was bought a £30 pair from Amazon for my birthday last year. I’m not a discerning bino user by any means but they are perfectly fine and clear and nice to use.

I really don’t think you need to spend megabucks for a usable pair.

Edit- looked up the ones I’ve got: Kylietech 12 X 42

Had my first proper ‘open water’ swim today in 8°c sea. Had wetsuit and neoprene hat, socks and gloves. It was fine tbh, managed 30 mins and wasn’t too cold afterwards though my dad really struggled and was still shivering about 40mins after however.

To piggy back on this thread (hope you don’t mind OP)…

My Dad and I have both bought open water swimming kit over winter (wetsuit, neoprene hat, socks, gloves, tow float etc). We have decided to go for our first swim soon, current sea temperature is just under 9°c where we are. It’s going to be painful isn’t it?

The carbon footprint for this race series must be massive no? They would be doing more good by not bothering.

    Miss.

Thread dredge but Alpkit have just emailed about this: https://alpkit.com/products/aeronaut-2?utm_campaign=584086_Espresso%2030th%20March%202021&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Alpkit%20Ltd&dm_i=57MB,CIOM,2VTCG1,1FKEZ,1

Think Vango have done this before with the F10 Hydrogen but not at this price point.

My current place of work, it’s just me working in our small warehouse yet one of the guys from the upstairs office has taken it upon himself to lay mousetraps (without telling me!) around the warehouse. He also never checks them? I’ll be moving stock around and find dead mice in varying states of decay. There are no foodstuffs in the building.

    Very odd.

Sorry, wasn’t my intention 😁 I enjoyed following the build. Hasn’t there been a new tool version released in the mean time?

Managed to score a free kayak on my walk home today. Approx 14ft long, round hull and enclosed cockpit. The finish on it is pretty poor and there are a couple of holes in the deck but I’m not complaining!

Plan tomorrow is to stick a hosepipe in it and see where it leaks, and then I can patch it up. will look into filling and smoothing the hull and deck before painting, is flow coat the answer here in terms of an even finish?

My aim is to learn to kayak roll in this, my previous kayak (Perception Fastnet w/rudder) was just to big for me and I couldn’t quite roll it (got close though!). I’ll need to fit buoyancy bags too.

    Cheers.

IMO extremely unlikely that we will become extinct. There are highly likely to be Terrible Events of some kind or another that will make it very much not fun for most people but some of us will carry on.

Erm, hate to break it to you but the Sun has only got about 5 billion years left😁

Heard about this on FB and predictably it has descended into madness with posters wishing harm on the campers and demanding they be fined £5million instead of £200.

I don’t agree with what the campers did, but where do you draw the line? What about someone injuring themselves doing non essential DIY at home and requiring help from the emergency services?

I have a pair of Peter Storm waterproof over trousers that were bought for me by work. Had to use them for the first time the other day and couldn’t get them over my boots(despite side zippers) which isn’t ideal. I also find them a bit flappy.

Any thoughts on the Berghaus Deluge Hydroshell over trousers? See that they can be had for around £35 and actually come in different leg lengths, side opening looks better on them too.

    Cheers.

We use Fibrax at work, pretty sure their outers are made in the UK.

We get ours from Ison (outer & inner) for a lot less than that (trade).

@lunge, thanks but out of my size unfortunately.

Haven’t been running for a week or so due to my hip problem but went out for a gentle 4km tonight. Hip felt fine whilst running, but is uncomfortable now whilst sitting at my desk. Walking and standing around feel fine however sitting and driving are uncomfortable. Very frustrating!
