Just had maxxis vanpro on the vito. £90 per corner. Aggressive tread but not actually winter tyres. Not at all noisy. Brake and grip well. Very impressed

the first time I changed the gear cable on an X0 system I couldn’t find out how to get the cable out of the lever (no little grub screw like shimano), so I undid the enticing hex bolt underneath and the lever sort of exploded springs and ratchets everywhere. I couldn’t get it back together.

but that’s not the stupid part. I figured that I just needed to know which order the bits went together in, so I very carefully opened the left hand shifter to see which way that one was put together. boom. springs and ratchets everywhere for the second time.

I paid the LBS to fix them in the end but they never really worked properly again, expensive day in the garage

I’m struggling to understand this, so the proper racing is saturday as that’s the only day when there is control over when people enter stages, but then you can just ride it as a loop on sunday. Is that right?

so if I want to enter and it be like a race I’ve either got to take the Friday off to practice or race it blind on the saturday

why not make the saturday bimble \ practice day and sunday proper race conditions?

Ive got a ‘long’ (the middle length). 6 seater. 2 bikes fit in diagonally fully assembled with all seats in, or handily remove 1 seat and get 2 bikes in straight with the wheels on down the side. With all seats removed its vast. Can easily have a stack of kit behind the seats and still stretch out to sleep. I think its 5.19 metres so still fits in a parking space and 1.8 metres high so will go under most car park barriers. If you want more bikes, fully assembled and all seats in think xlwb.

When my cheap CREE breaks i will replace it. I can do that 8 times and still be in pocket. 8 times. Ive got 3 exposure lights and still use them but they werent worth the money

Ive been running diablo and joysticks for a few years. I broke a couple of the brackets and couldnt bring myself to spend £18 each on new ones so i bought a cheap £20 4 CREE and a hope universal bracket. Its really good, I will never spend £100 + on a light again (in fact i think i spent 180 on the diablo). Seems bonkers now.

Chapaking – there will be some mud if it keeps on raining on stage 1 and the bottom of stage 3. The rest is reasonably well surfaced

Ive had 2 lezyne ones. Neither lasted a winter(first one replaced under warranty). Im going to give the knock off ones a try. If they last 3 months they will still work out cheaper

Ive only ever run them with the supplied 36 but the spacing looks identical to a shimano set on my spesh thats running a 34 nw. I would guess they would be fine down to a 32 as thats what the triple shipped with bit i cant be sure

Edit – ignore me, im using the middle position, no idea how the outer position works with a smaller ring

I needed a bottom bracket and ended up buying this instead, chainrings are worth £30. The cranks are practically free

Primary position just makes people try and barge me out of the way, sometimes literally trying to push me over to the side with their car. Seems to work ok if its to make them pass nice and wide bit if its a case of blocking the whole of a narrow lane i often just seem to provoke people, especially riding slowly uphills

That depends if your hubs are in good nick, if they are no reason why it shouldnt be (depends on how much you value a certain rim as well)

What about buying 2 arch or flow rims and getting a bike shop to build them onto your current hubs. You might not need new spokes, if so should be about £200 ( 110-120 for the rims ans the rest for labour)

I had problems with the kmc chain i had, see the ‘xt chainline issues’ thread. Now on sram 1130 which is much better, £15.99 from crc and comes with a powerlink

Update – changed from a kmc to sram 1130 chain and its much better. Not perfect but i can back pedal 3 full revolutions before it falls off. Should be fine for riding and i think it will get better as it beds in. Sram chain has a better split link and cheaper too

If you are getting judder you might have contamination on pad or rotor. If you find a big hill and brake hard until you put some heat into the system it might go away. Failing that try a new set of cheap pads and clean the disc with some disc cleaner.

Or it might just need the pads bedding in. Either way worth riding it for a bit

Parts of cut gate are quite technically difficult and exposed. Factor in inexperienced riders, potential bad weather and people coming the other way as well I think there could be some nasty accidents

Thanks edward. Tried that. And also similar process with the b screw. But will give it another go. Failing that i am going to either try a tiny bit more spacing and / or a different chain

The chain / jockey wheel interface seems totally fine. The chain is falling off the top of the 42t cog. Its all quiet and non clicky, and totally fine in all the other gears

So ive spaced my chainring in by 3.8 ml and still have the same problem in 42. Has anyone had this issue and successully solved it? Thinking of trying a sram chain next

I have the same problem with a kmc chain. Had it in the biggest 2 cogs. I removed a spacer on the bb and now just have the problem on the 42. Going to try some spacers

I genuinely hate indicators. They offer no useful information and just get in the way. Part of shimanos learning process i guess. This year they figured out we dont want front mechs. Maybe next year they will figure out that we prefer wheels with sealed cartridge bearings
