true true. accepted you may well be much fitter. I just like the feeling of having the low ring to spin over the technical stuff going up, I cant see how I could do without it even if I got much stronger

go on then, you have to explain YMMV if I have to admit you have stronger legs

1:1 might be ok for doing laps round a muddy field but it wont get you up a rocky climb in the dark peak

I was thinking about this for a while, but I cant see it would work on a cross country bike, either you use a ~ 34 and you cant get up the hills or stick with a 26 and you cant pedal going down. I just dont get it unless its a gravity bike

take the saddle out, put the post in a vice and hang off the frame. wiggle and repeat

almost certain to squash the seat post though (I just squashed a thomson doing this )

you should be able to see if it is straight and nice and it will make a nasty clacking noise if not. check if you have any stiff links though. I’ve run on fixed chains for months and months in the past. it will annoy the hell out of you if it lets you down in the middle of nowhere though

sounds like crests ! you should be fine at that weight I would have thought. I love arches though. I weigh 87kg and they are the only rim of a sensible weight that have ever lasted me more than a year

good warning! thats round the corner from me and I do sometimes go down there in the dark

depends, if you took all of the bent bits out it should be OK if you can still get the full range of gears. or if you trust yourself not to put it into a gear combination you dont have enough chain for!

tron has point though, they tend to break when they are worn out

apparently CRC have bought up a massive stock of 2010 avid elixir and juicy. I managed to get a brand new rear 185 elixir r for 69.99 from JE James by getting them to price match. If you can be flexible on size you can get a pair of elixir R SL for £160 at the moment and there are other deals on elixir 3 and juicy

i did not know that (regrets binning several shimano wheelsets)

ive always wondered why C and C dont have a replaceable cup? Ive ruined several good sets of wheels by having grit wear out the inside of the hub. Some sort of stainless insert would surely work?

leave it mucky and try and ignore it ? Worked for me for years. This approach is aided by one of those covers that goes over the drinking tube

if you like wobbly wheels then definitely cup and cone, cant beat a bit of side to side play for make cornering more interesting

and before any corrects me the only way of fixing play in cup and cone wheels is to tighten them up until they dont go around. I know. I’ve tried.

thank you tony_m for the link. Can you tell me where the downhill bit is ? I have seen footage of some jumps but I didn’t find them when I went to Gisburn.

Are they near enough the car park for it be worth taking my full face lid?

    cheers

I like the sound of this, when does entry open?

whats the crack with camping, is there car parking allowed at the campingsite or do i have to come up with a clever way of keeping my bike safe

    cheers!

hagg farm track, its a nasty climb! Ive not been out that side of the a57 for a while. Ive been waiting for dry weather to ride cut gate but I imagine its a bog at the moment

Ive had wheels from both JRA and the factory built hope ones. JRA are excellent build quality and really nice to be able to customise all of the spoke and nipple options etc.

I had arch \ pro II, really strong, stronger than crest apparently. About 1700g.

You cant deny the value of the hope hoops though if you are happy with the factory options. But they dont do arch, just crest or flow.

I have the same problem. I ignore it and put them back on the bike. out of site etc

dont bother, it will just get in everyone’s way and you will be too busy riding your bike to control it and clear up its mess

doing one of those trailquest things on Sunday somewhere in the white peak. anyone else entered?

some of those less well ridden tracks in wharnecliffe that pitch you straight down the side of the hill.

bits of my knee, jacket, rear mech are still on that hill somewhere

I think flows are supposed to be a lot stronger than crest.

maybe you need the in between option – arch. held up well for me. Shame you cant get them factory built by hope though

yesiamtom – I usually use 1 scoop of fluid, I thought that was normal? good point made though, perhaps I am getting small punctures and I’m not noticing them sealing.

poppa – I usually just check for pointy things and then put a tube in.

nearly all my punctures were pinch punctures which I dont get with tubeless so running the tyres dry after initial sealing hasn’t seemed to cause me any problems. (cue massive stranding episode in the dark peak for being smug)

ive never had the fluid seal a puncture in 5 years of using tubeless. I use it when I first fit the tyres to seal the inside of the sidewalls but I dont bother after that.

lezyne. once you have had a pump with a clever adaptor hose that doesnt lose air or bend the end of your presta valves you will never go back

I bought a met armadillo thinking I could pedal in it, very light.

I cant. its too sweaty. so I got a met parachute.

seems OK but I havent faceplanted it yet

it cant mean anything good. Time to have a look. Have you ever pulled one apart ? 5 minute job if nothing has broken. I never used to service mine and I left one so long that a loose pawl destroyed the inside of the hub.

ive got to do this on my avids this week after advice on this forum last week. I wish I had the option of sending them back to hope!

the argument that only 18% are owned by FC so it doesn’t matter just doesn’t make sense to me. Just because too little of our country is in public ownership it doesn’t mean it makes sense to reduce it further.

the governments part back track that popular areas will be given to charities wont help either. This land is important enough to be publicly funded and staffed by professionals not left to the chance of public donations and people’s spare time.

And back to the originial point. If land that we own is taken and sold to someone else without our permission it is theft in my eyes. so yes, it will get ridden.

Ive got some 521s, some flows and some arch. The 521s feel so heavy compared to the stans. The arch seem to handle a 2.3 happily and have stood up to my weight\total lack of skill\fondness for riding in wharnecliffe for about 3 years. Not sure you need more unless you want to run a really big tyre

once mine dry up I just leave them. by then it’s done it’s job of sealing the inner wall

looks like evans cycles has bonty big earl for 19.99 (the wet condition ones. Dont worry about that though they are still a great all round tyre and I think better all round than the dry condition). I’m glad to prompted me to google that, they cost me £35 last time I bought some!

I got a stans flow last week! the big earl inflated first time with a track pump

bontrager big earl 2.35 work great for me. Seem to be a magic combination with Flow, I inflated one with a track pump and no sealant this week! and they are tubeless ready.

    you need yellow stans tape
    olympic stans valve

to go tubeless. do it, best thing I ever did
