I’ve never snapped one, I have had them become strangely loose and wobbly a couple of times though. Not reassuring

and I know you are going to say this is user error but anyway it doesn’t happen with the Maxle on my other forks!

I have also snapped more frames than QRs :-(

seems I miss out on some things by avoiding facebook ! Do you know exactly what is planned for this maintanence day? I hope not the usual dumbing down, flattening, widening that maintanence usually means. I think Devil’s elbow is sheffield wildlife forum territory and they have made a real mess of some trails near me like this.

Would ridesheffield not be better off leaving it alone and going and building some trails where there aren’t any ?

(unless you all plan to build in some nice kickers or something in which case I will just retract all this and look a bit silly)

I’ve not seen it but disappointing if it is true. maybe more people are trying to ride it who cant manage the rocks and drops in the gully.

This is what you get for turning houndkirk moor into a featureless motorway, everyone is looking for fun somewhere else.

are ride sheffield really planning work on devils elbow? Cant help thinking they should leave well alone, I haven’t seen anyone from ride sheffield canvessing for opinion on whether this needs to be changed or not. I like it muddy! keeps it quiet

everything people say about QR being OK is true, I’ve got QR and they have been fine. If I was buying a new set through I would definitely go for some sort of bolt through. Qs dont work lose very often, but they do occasionally. Why risk it ?

and I am sure my 20mm forks are stiffer, I cant say by how much though as I’ve not got QR and 20mm versions of the same fork to compare

and I’m not just saying that so I can sell Mosey my wheel!

interesting, I’ve had some chain rub since I went 22 / 36 (reaches for CRC link)

I assume these work ok with a 3 speed shifter or would a need a double specific shifter as well?

I can understand why people go for the deal extreme lights, good value for money. I dont really get the joystick though. ~300 lumens for £130 when you can buy a 900 lumen diablo 2 for £160. Seems like a big jump up for £30. They seem to wiegh pretty much the same.

I run a diablo one on the bars, it is great, plenty of light for me. quite a wide spead of light as well. I find I do need the piggyback battery for longer rides through

    cwmcarn downhill red run

and for £25 a day a nice chap in a van drives you back to the top so you can have lots of goes at it. well recommended

I got one of those little exposure diablo things a couple of years ago, its great for those rides that start light but end dark. I would definitely get another exposure if I needed a bigger light, I like the lack of cables. reliability of cables killed my previous lights

    oooh good one

2 x 10 chainsets with a bashguard (I really cant figure why this isn’t happening???)

its great isn’t it. I like how about 15 people walk the floor doing nothing but anything you want to buy is hidden in the workshop and you have to stop someone working on a bike to get the part you need

I did this recently after a nastly chainring leg slicing incident.

used a Gamut ring (little thinner than E13 so I didnt need new chainring bolts)

After a while I upped the middle ring to 36 and left the granny at 22. The front mech works fine but it is quite a big gap in ratios when you drop down chaninrings. I dont run out of gears very often now I have the 36.

Just a small amend to the above advice. big to big + 2 links is OK unless your suspension design increases the chain length under compression. I learnt this at my cost after a friend did a drop off on my bike with the chain in big \ big and pulled a brand new mech to pieces

I think it is the smallest 2 or 3 cogs that aren’t on the spider? I found over about 3 years it did mark the freehub quite a lot. but by then you will probably find that the bearings are shafted and you may have broken some springs. £50 for a new steel freehub body with new bearings in and new pawls and springs doesn’t feel so painful 3 years later.

it was dry as a bone 8 days OK but we have had a little bit of rain since then but I think it will still be OK. It took me 2 or 3 times to find the best tracks, best advice I can give you is to find someone in a full face lid and ask if you can follow them to the downhill tracks.

dont be tempted to park anywhere except the top car park. If you really dont have anyone to ask for directions then follow the cross country course, about 50 yards off the main fire road on the right. Once that spits you out on the fireroad again head downhill and keep right at any junction you will come to the downhill tracks after about 5- 10 minutes.

have fun! If you see someone on a pitch with a silver full face say hello, thats me

good effort! I went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago and had a terrifying moment after nosediving off one of the drops. unicycling on the front wheel is not the best way to take the second drop. sounds like I got away lightly compared to you though. get well soon

I wish I listened to advice to remove and refit stuff more often, it would save me a fortune. seatposts, freehubs and pedal cleats all spring to mind :-(

    that location looks really familiar…

surely riding over one of the big rocks rather than getting stuck in the gap. easy to say from behind a keyboard though
