more work ? this is ridiculous. what we need is an organisation of riders in sheffield that will represent us and oppose this sort of nonsense. maybe it is time ridesheffield stopped apologising for the council and the rest of us got out and started showing our feelings.

anyone have any detail about what is happening?

dont come into Sheffield if you dont need to. what about getting out at edale? quick pull over the hill, down the beast and you are at ladybower. Up the hill again you can head to cut gate (where you will be lost in a bog and uncovered perfectly preserved 200 years later). There are various ways back towards Manchester from the langsett end

I thought we solved this last time by saying that we needed an enormous fan in front of the plane, rather than a conveyer belt?

dont make me find the old thread

what about gravel rash caused by antelopes?

I own one. I agree with TJ though, bit hard to say how much it would work, I haven’t landed on it yet.

on the plus side aside from looking a bit daft they aren’t heavy or hot so even if it is only a bit more protection it doesn’t come with massive downsides

roll on freezing conditions so it is possible to wear a proper full face for trails riding!

last time I went up cutgate in weather like this my bike disappeared up to the headset in a bog, flipped me off, smashed a mech, bent a mech hanger and chewed some spokes. never again

typical over-engineering isn’t it. I was really cursing when it happened to me that I would have made it home fine if I didn’t have such an expensive mech

excellent, thanks, and sorry for google laziness. I will be pleased to run bushings in jockey wheels again. bearings seemed like a great idea until one collapsed making the mech sieze up. I guess the bushings wont do that.

I would like to see that link too. Last time I needed x9 jockey wheels I managed to find an x7 mech for less and just replaced the whole thing

this puts me in mind of a friend of mine who stuffed a wobbly mech into his wheel after mocking us all for changing our mechs too frequently

thats an extreme case though, Rich and Z1ppy are right, you should be fine if it is shifting ok

Ive routinely mocked people who resorted to fairy liquid in the past but over the weekend I had a real stubborn one, wouldn’t even go up with the compressor. I did the inner tube first to seat one side, neat fairy on the other. straight up, lovely

a specialized pitch would suite you, nice long top tube. I hear there is a good value one for sale on the classifieds

Merlin are top. I wish less stuff was tied into deals though (great price on brakes but you have to buy a pair etc)

you cant be watching them all the time, you will crash or something. You get used to it after a while, trust me

that is a great value first bike. disc brakes are good but I didn’t have them for years and still managed to go out riding.

the main piece of advice I would give you is to try bikes as much as possible first. My first 2 bikes I bought on the basis of the specs \ part list and it took me ages to realise I just didn’t like the fit or the shape of the frame.

If you can afford to hire one a couple of times, or borrow from a friend for a couple of off road rides it will tell you a lot about the sort of bike you feel comfortable on

how come dog owners always think their dog is the exception to the rule? It’s an animal, no matter how well trained it will still be to an extent unpredictable. so dont take them to trail centres.

there, now we can all get on with some work

dogs arent wildlife. I’ve yet to come across a deer\ squirrel\ hedgehog that has tried to bite my pedals

    nosedive
    Free Member

exactly, and we all know that no one riding round a red loop with a dog most of the time even knows where they are, let alone knows if they have crapped

    leave them at home!

rah rah rah my dog will never crap \ get under your wheels \ bite a child \ chase sheep etc

wake up, leave them at home when you take the bike out

Are the 2011 ones reliable though? I want one but struggling to get my head around £200 for a seat post. It would be easier to convince myself if I thought it had a good chance of being reliable

rode kiroughtree like a tool on saturday, rode dalbeattie like a genius (for me) on sunday, despite hangover.

thoughts to those above who didn’t have such a happy time

so does this work on ‘old’ pro 2 as well or can this only be done on the new evo hubs?

not a pointless thread. nice to hear someone happy rather than just moaning.

my pro II \ flow wheelset makes me happy as well, one of the best upgrades on my pitch.

I’m taking them to the 7stanes tomorrow, that will also make me happy as long as it doesn’t rain too much

so in summary buttscratcher it seems your solution is likely to be pharmaceutical. I certainly wouldn’t suggest anything daft like changing your diet

a couple of ranitidine before the race?

or if it is regular a doctor may give you some lanzoprazole or something similar. sorted me out a treat

I like it, at least they are constantly adding to it and improving it so you can see where your money is going.

that freeride run was shut last time I went, is it open again now?

    double daylight definitely needed.

and dont give me any nonsense about farmers needing it to the light in the morning, just get up when the some comes up. So you are going to miss Home and Away, big deal, no reason to rob the sun from the rest of us. It’s not as if the cows have watches

+ 1 for caddon bank. it’s top, and worth a push back up for another go for sure.

If you have never been before I like the freeride park at glentress as well, it flows really nicely and got me doing drops and jumps I never thought I was capable of

I’ve never ridden the black at Kirroughtree, very excited to read it’s good though as I’m there on Saturday!

I’ve not found anything better than avid, tried 2 or 3 different types. none lasted longer, most squealed more and none of them fitted as well

    sorry

Chris – at the risk of adding a sensible comment to this forum, it sounds like this guy was moving a bit quick, and he wasn’t there when you started to pull out. fair enough, I’m with you so far. Once you realised he was coming though best just to pull back in and get out of the way. It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong, if you can lessen the chances of an accident then it’s up to you to do that

you are pretty much spoilt for choice. If you went south there are 3 good trails at Afan and I would definitely recommend booking an uplift day at cwmcarn.

Further north people speak well of nant y arian and macclyneth, I cant help you there as I’ve not ridden them but there is a cracking ride around at the elan valley

north of there is coed y brenin which I think it still great.

avoid bets y coed, tired and outdated.

Lllangdegla in north wales is good but there is only a couple of hours riding there.

I’ve just highroller 2.35 and I like them. To get a bit more grip I’ve put a minion downhill front super tacky on the front, mad grippy. It doesn’t seem to slow the bike down any but if you are worried about rolling resistant probably best to avoid super tacky ones

    xc – stans crest
xc, occasional drops and rough stuff – stans arch
    ragging it – stans flow

anything else I can help with?

OK, I will try and stay calm

If I ride down there and it is been laid flat with boring white crushed stone like the SWT work around me I will of course be ranting again calling you a collaborator. I really hope they aren’t just using bikers to help deflect criticism

until then I will wind my neck back in and try and give you, and SWT the benefit of the doubt. for a change.

and if you could build a sneaky kicker while you are there it would be all good
