dont worry, same thing happened to me, ok, well it only happened once to me :-) . Annoyingly it was when I lent my bike to a mate and he did a drop in big \ big rings whiich I probably wouldn’t have done .

when I finally put enough links in to allow the full movement on big \ big the chain was slack in the top three gears at the back when using the granny ring. anyone else found this ? I’m thinking that the solution would either be a chain device or a longer cage mech

ok, fair point, ck will rarely need a new bearing. my last one lasted longer than my frame. but if you do need a new bearing you cant fit one yourself. unlike hope

    hmmm.

one headset that you can service yourself, has cheap, replaceable bearings, good quality.

another that you have to send back to America to service and is dogged by rumours of cutting into steerer tubes

(and you will get more for the CK if you sell it!)

I love that video. could we have a whole thread of people trying to steal bikes from kickboxers? that would make my day

I got exactly the same at the bridleway at the bottom of stanage pole, the ranger was stood next to the bridleway sign trying to tell me it was a footpath!

I got one from screwfix for about £65 with hoses and a tyre inflator. 5 litre tank I think and fine for inflating bike and car tyres. I reckon it has paid for itself by now with the saving by not having to use petrol station air machines

when my mate got his cycle to work bike he was obliged to get it from Halfords, but they got him an orange p7. I think for cycle to work they will order other things in. You will pay full RRP but at least you could get something that is good

I’ve got Lyric 2 step air after ruining a set of Pikes with my no service for 3 years schedule. they are absolutely brilliant, way better than I even hoped they would be, with the adjust they are good for everything from commuting to crashing headlong into rocks at wharnecliffe

Ive seen one smashed by a mate of mine, large drop, large bloke, FSR frame, chain too short. brand new one ride old x7 mech ripped to pieces by the chain growth.

Unfortunately he was on my bike!

I heard they dropped it, so I guess it’s just the enduro in the AM category from Specialized now. Perhaps the pitch was just too good value for money …

You should have bought mine when it was advertised on here for £500!

does anyone else have 2nd bike specifically for riding when its really muddy which they rarely clean?

works for me, hardtail, cheap bits etc

    nosedive
    Free Member

definitely yes. a hardtail pedals better, so it is worth having your seat post nice and high to make the most of that. which will mean you will want to be able to get it out of your way when it starts smacking you in the ass when it gets rocky.

    so you should buy one

good point. they are the old 521s. your old 521s to be exact. (in a triggers broom replaced the hub and the rim kind of a way)

drill time. just try to stop before you go straight through the shoe

especially if they are gortex lined

any normal diesel estate and a roofrack.

    or did I miss something?

I can definitely tell the difference in weight, the 521s seem a little slow to respond on anything except DH tracks, it felt like my Pitch came alive with the flows on it. I am not sure what the actual weight difference is but I also needed a rim strip in the 521 to run tubeless which I didn’t need for the flow so that saved a bit of weight as well.

521s are overkill in my opinion, I’ve got these and flow and the flow are almost always strong enough

though to be fair the 521s I have are about 6 years old and look brand new so if you really are after indestructible…….

I got a new bike with a spesh commmand post. It is superb. I always used to stop and drop my post for anything technical and I dont miss the faff of stopping, I am also riding the flatter sections with a much higher post than I used to knowing I can just drop it if anything interesting happens. Brilliant, I would never do without one now, despite the extra weight

I’ve converted a pitch and kept the 32t front ring for a while, bettter when I moved to 36 though. I didn’t bother moving the chainset out with spacers, it still felt happy enough in all gears. tbh the 22t front was rarely used anyway

I wouldn’t get on a bike without wearing a lid for sure. It’s interesting to see results that the benefits arent shown statistically though (even if the paper is biased and just proving what the author wants it to prove). just makes me think that it would be really good to know what is \ isn’t working and it might improve the designs

It would be great to know for sure. Risk compensation would be where my money is. I just cant get my head around the mechanics of helmets causing injuries, and I know I am a lot more careful when I have an open face compared to full face lid.

needs a proper large scale study really, control groups etc

I’ve had bad in shop experiences, mostly waiting for \ trying to get the attention of people in the mechanics bit when needing components.

But i’ve had some good help and advice recently so credit where it is due.

Guys – get the compononents out somewhere else in the shop so we dont have to keep hanging over that half door waiting to be served, let the mechanics do their job!

“We need to know why when helmet wearing increases head injury rates do not fall. this effect has been seen in many countries in a many studies so is real – but why”

maybe people take more risks when wearing helmets so eliminating the safety benefit? i have heard this is seen with other safety equipment in other areas

hope hoops \ stans flow. brilliant value bombproof tubeless for the heavier rider

stick a set of folding maxxis on them and they are even relatively light

this looks great, I love that Llandegla are constantly updating the trails. making the last red section singletrack will be a massive improvement, it was the last really boring bit

I’m using non tubless maxxis on a stans rim with sealant, they seem to work fine for me. Have a 2.35 single ply minion front at the moment and that has been no problem. Also used single ply highroller with no trouble.

I have had problems fitting old, worn out maxxis back to rims after they have been knocking around the garage for a while but I think everyone has that problem from what I can see.

I can understand what people say about trail centres but I wouldn’t miss riding dalbeattie or innerleithen any time I was near them.

If you have 4 days one day could be dalbeattie and Mabie, another could be innerleithen and glentress red. leaves you 2 days for the whole getting lost with a map malarky

I use various normal tyres on stans rims, or on mavic rims with a rim strip so I am sure it would work on an 819 rim. I find there is normally a couple of days of slight air loss as the side walls get sealed by the sealant then all is fine. and it saves loads of money and weight over proper UST

I’ve used bonty big earl 2.3, they worked very well. highroller 2.1, 2.3 single and double ply, wire and folding, all were ok. Minion non UST also fine. Only problem I had were with maxxis exception series but that is because I kept tearing the light sidewalls.

has the Marin trail changed recently then ? as everyone else seems to disagree with me I am beginning to question my memory of it, it did seem to be a lot of fireroad and not much fun. admittedly that was about 7 years ago though so happy to be corrected.

I like llandegla, not everyones cup of tea but I like the BMX track feel of it

well the official trail is. are you telling me there is better unmarked stuff?

to get the 20mm end caps off you just need to get something under the circlip, if you look one end is slightly raised. If you push a pencil under it and push around the circlip it will pop out and you can lift the 20mm end caps off

and what about a natural ride, cadar idris (not sure of spelling) is right next to dolgellau, never ridden it but I regret not making the effort every time I go there

ditch betsy coed would be my advice. there is enough for 2 days at coedy unless you ride like a maniac and betsy is dull.

where are you heading from? If you are coming from the north I would suggest llandegla on the way down as well

isn’t it amazing that in any town up and down the country most people know the dodgy market stalls, the pubs where stolen gear is sold etc but it seems beyond the police to do anything about it

I lived there for 20 years and I can tell you categorically there are no trails unless you drive to derbyshire. also very little else going for it, I suggest you cancel your trip

I think my pro2 \ arch wheels are about 1700g. I am more or less your weight and they lasted me ages on a full sus bike including some light downhill and the odd crash.

I know you said you wanted lighter but I think you could pay a lot more to shave the extra 100-200g off, especially if you do it at the hub where you wont really notice the difference as much as at the rim. Perhaps you could look to save the weight at the tyre? folding minion \ folding high roller should come in pretty light

my command post is excellent. that is a scientific sample of 1 post, used for about 2 weeks.

I like the fact it has a pre-set mid position

I dont like the fact it returns with enough force to bring tears to the eyes and has a rubbish remote lever that feels all wobbly
