@poly that’s a very private sector take on it (which I understand). In education, you’ll often find the opposite. My wife interviewed last year, and since has been bought in to the SLT and offered job development.

    It’s so weird!

There’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the process here. Schools collect references etc prior to the interview day and the decision will be made on the same day, following interview and potentially example lessons taught in front of governors, the head and anyone else ie SLT.

When applying the teacher will inform their current school, so the above can be facilitated (references, day out of the class). It’s commonly accepted this is how it works.

Rumour mill ‘noise’ is inevitable. It’s a small world with people often moving between schools in a similar area.

My wife is a primary teacher. It’s normal practice to have to advise your current school when applying, as the new school will collect references potentially before the interview and also you need to have the time out of the classroom.

it always seems to end up being open information, but not used against the person if you follow

I agree it’s weird. So different to private sector ‘normal’ jobs where you keep secret.

Doubt it will have stressed it. EV HVAC’s vary a little, depending on heat pumps but the bulk of the power is provided by a big PTC (essentially a hairdryer), hence why they use so much power. Sounds like the fan may have stopped/gone/be having a little rest.

Disc brakes on road bikes are unnecessary and will never catch on. I couldn’t have been more incorrect!

    Holy thread resurrection!

So I think we’ve fallen foul of this and would really like advice, I wonder if @bedmaker is still around?

Fitted a Town and country (made in Pickering) Harrogate eco stove, it’s one of these modern ones with the triple baffles https://www.townandcountryfires.co.uk/product/harrogate-eco-sc-copy/

First issue we’ve had tonight is condensation water coming out the front of the stove. I believe this is because it’s connected to a clay chimney.  Flue temp was around 160/170 deg c as I was running it on the low side to bed in the lime plaster.  I think therefore the combination of eco design and cold chimney means it’s not getting hot enough. I think the solution here is a liner for the chimney?

Second issue is then this one of smoke coming in to the room when refuelling. We let it run down a bit to embers, shut down the tertiary air and then slowly crack it. But as you say it still puts smoke in to the room. Is the solution to remove some of the baffling?

interestingly I found this article. Looks like it’s a big issue https://mr-soot.com/2019/11/02/why-having-new-eco-stoves-without-updating-building-regs-may-end-up-with-more-emissions/

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Back to the good format of a beautiful country, a few thousand miles and a nice road trip without silly stunts (for the most part). I think they judged the episode very well and it felt like a lovely end.

    When Dire Straits started up…

I know it’s a money making venture and I understand it’s a transaction, but I’m certain that it’s meant more to them than that at times. We all get a bit lost from time to time.

Hi. Just some corrections based on our experience – the charger will draw 32 amps and it’ll be wired to your meter box. Not fuse box.

So just to feedback, did the Struggle Borderlands 100k gravel yesterday, Silca hot waxed chain on a SRAM force flat top chain.

Conditions ranged from dry to wet to damp (one of those days!) and it was 85% off road, quite a lot of very very fine almost sand like stuff in quite a few places. Four stream crossings. In short I would describe it as quite challenging for a chain lube.

I’d given it a fresh silca hot wax about 50 miles before the ride, and the chain and wax held up brilliantly. It held up far better than my friends wet lubed chains, and I could have ridden further on it.

This morning it’s had the boiling water bath and then a hot wax.  Very little dirt on the chain, it was still pretty clean, and a decent amount of wax still on it.

Hugely impressed. Its easy to do, easy to clean and seems to perform brilliantly

Ps highly recommend the event, I’m a local but it still gave me a kicking.

It’s all about fit, find the brand who’s measurements you sit inside the best (ie smack in the middle of the size guide dimensions for that size) I would suggest, or try on.

In my experience and my friends, I would avoid HUUB, they either totally lose shape or tear if you look at them.

Currently using a 2XU which is beautiful, and has done the whole season really nicely so I think it’ll last well. Zone3 seem decent, as do the aqua sphere.

Early convert to silca hot wax here. So far it’s lasting very well and a bit of damp hasn’t affected it.

    @mattsccm
why are you doing all that? If proper hot wax aka silca, clean in boiling water and re wax. Couldn’t be easier, it’s much less effort than Smoove etc. IMO

@tomhoward I was on King’s Cross to Darlington yesterday. This is the problem isn’t it, 9 times out of 10 it runs brilliantly and is a genuinely not unpleasant experience. But. That 1 time out of 10, that you’re experiencing now, it’s properly rubbish.

So, fellow iboost users – we are going on holiday for 10 nights. Do I leave the iboost on so it keeps the hot water tank (300L) hot, should require minimal energy? Or. Turn it all off then have a mammoth heating sessions when get back? Not sure which will use less electric. Not that it really matters.

I’ve been through this unfortunately. Firstly, condolences.

Best thing is to speak to Apple. I had to wait for death certificates and then cooling periods, I’m afraid it took over six months in the end.

Powerwall 3 also has integrated inverter I think, so you don’t need a seperate inverter. Saves cost and much more efficient. On a circa 40kwh day we lose around 1.5kwh between the solar edge inverter and the Tesla (measuring what each thinks has been produced)

I don’t understand why a vet with a tranquilliser gun wasn’t called. Or, worst case, armed response deal with it humanely. Battering it with a car seems stupid.

Can I add to the numpty questions please? I’m running a v2 Hightower that doesn’t have UDH. Does this mean I can’t put the upgrade kit on aka https://www.bike-discount.de/en/sram-gx-eagle-axs-upgrade-kit-1 ?

Sorry such a basic question but it looks like it does work, but then I’m not sure!

I owe Neil Tennant of the pet shop boys an apology.

Late noughties I’d been visiting a friend in London and had popped to WHSmith before catching my train west. Came back out and my mate was talking to this man who looked vaguely familiar.  Went to say goodbye to my mate, who introduced me to the man as Neil, I thought it was a bit weird the deference he did it with and he seemed vaguely familiar but thought no more of it.

Apparently Neil said afterwards it ages since he’s been blanked/not recognised 😂

Sorry Neil. I’d recognise you now.

Check ‘The Wonder Years’, great for explaining all this stuff. The app is free and very good.

Nothing to add other than been there, feel your pain. Or first had their 6 month regression when we were in a cottage in Northumberland on ‘holiday’. Very nearly came home.

Mmannerr I hope you get your weird stomach thing sorted. Sounds like a nightmare.
To those who have suggested gallstones thank you, I’d never have thought of this but it looks (superficially) like it could be a contender so I will make sure it’s checked off. It would never have occurred to me!
