Ambiente Tapas is good but been a while since I’ve been. Also the Yak and Yeti Napelese place is nice, they have a few veggie options.
northernmattFull MemberThis thread is no longer about OPs question.
Saturday is the one coming.
Next Saturday is the one after that.
Saturday after next is the one after that.
Then you get into just giving the people the date after this, unless you’re a lunatic and start saying things like Saturday after after next.northernmattFull MemberI’m glad this thread popped up. Took these on a holiday in Spain back at the end of September.
northernmattFull MemberWhat he said, some good deals on refurbished Fell laptops at the moment.
northernmattFull MemberWhereas in Kent I do like the fact that the hamlet of Ham is close to the town of Sandwich, exactly where it should be.
Miles away from Cheddar, Wensleydale, Gloucester (x2), or Stilton though
northernmattFull MemberThere’s a (possible) urban myth
Google suggests Syrian – there quite a few articles
northernmattFull MemberI was in a similar position last year but at a much lower spec as it was only for Minecraft. Got one from Palicomp who I think I found through a thread on here. Very good service and they were great when we had issues with it last month.
At a quick glance they may also be a smidge cheaper than PCS.
northernmattFull MemberBellowhead tomorrow at Newcastle City Hall – had tickets booked since November last year. It’s child1’s first proper gig. He doesn’t know he’s going yet so he’s in for a surprise tomorrow when we pick him up from school.
northernmattFull MemberHaving spent an inordinately long amount of time looking at houses on Rightmove there were that many grey houses that I did occasionally think the photos had been taken in black and white. The only clue was the bright green artificial grass next to the grey fence and grey decking.
The wife wanted a grey feature wall in the dining room when we moved in, and grey bathrooms units This was 8 years ago before all this horrific mess started. Luckily for us it’s trendy now so we don’t need to redecorate before selling.
Edit: just remembered this thing that has been thrown up locally. It looks worse in person. https://www.google.com/maps/@54.9397365,-1.3669687,3a,58.2y,285.14h,95.95t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sQh3xmSWZPSGQ-ncmiT6slQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
northernmattFull MemberDoublebois is Cornwall, should be in France
Add Cambois to that, it’s in Northumberland
northernmattFull MemberLeeds Castle
Billericay which for years I thought was in Ireland.Washington and Philadelphia aren’t in the US, they’re actually just outside Sunderland.
northernmattFull MemberJust had a look at their website, it’s a bit 2008 but annoyingly they actually have an online ordering system but not for our school.
northernmattFull MemberI have a UCS Falcon in the post – wanted it since they released the old version. We’re moving house so I might even have somewhere to put it, along with the Disney castle which is still boxed up.
northernmattFull MemberRadio 2 until Jeremy Vine comes on. Obligatory tea break for Popmaster at 10:30
Wait until Vine finishes – put Radio 2 back on.
northernmattFull MemberThere’s a few threads on here. I think @WorldClassAccident started one on the same subject, unless my brain is telling me lies again.
and this article from STW last year https://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/how-to-build-a-pump-track-the-right-way/
northernmattFull MemberRoad trip done. Covered around 190 miles and average consumption was 45mpg. I think this could have been better but I’m still getting used to a little revvy petrol engine coming from a diesel. Also as I’m used to a 5spd box I found I was a gear lower than I should have been a few times, not to mention the fact that I forgot about 6th more than I’d care to admit.
It’s a pretty mixed route, some dual carriageway, some A road, some town driving so gives a good overall picture. The hilly bits were fine, plenty of poke as long as you don’t put it in eco mode.
northernmattFull MemberNot sure on CO2 blasting – there is place in Middlesbrough but they seem to lean to industrial stuff from their website. Don’t want to go the shotblasting route due to the mess. I think I’ll grab a knotted brush at the weekend and test it on a small area to see what it’s like. If it looks shite I can always bite the bullet and get that Peelaway stuff.
northernmattFull Member@marksnook I’m honestly not sure what stone it is. It’s a late 1800s terraced cottage in Sunderland. The ones at the back just came up looking grey-ish.
I’ll be painting again once it’s cleaned so swirly patterns may not be an issue. If I just take the flaky stuff off and throw more paint on it’ll look terrible because of how thick the existing paint is.
northernmattFull MemberI’ll keep track of mpg and report back, I’m expecting 45-50mpg when lightly loaded and doing motorway miles. We’re heading down to Scarbados from Sunderland so the route has a few hilly bits so should get an idea of how it does.
northernmattFull MemberPicked this up at 10:30 – big(ish) drive planned for the weekend – 6 bodies with overnight luggage
northernmattFull MemberYeah I’m wary of using heat as I know it could just make it worse, plus I don’t want to get heat too close to the uPVC window frames.
I’ve seen that peelaway stuff but it’s at the more expensive end of the getting stuff done spectrum. Especially compared to an 8 quid wire brush for the grinder.
northernmattFull MemberYou mean like a Ninja Foodie thing? Mum has one, she’s had it a month and I don’t think she’s used the hob or oven since. There’s only her and dad though so not a lot of mouths to feed.
northernmattFull MemberIt pays for Liz Truss’ Instagram
In reality I would also like to know.
northernmattFull MemberWhat @metalheart said. In a previous life I got a customer some from these people https://www.spc-hvac.co.uk/product-category/radiant-heating-cooling-panels/
northernmattFull MemberWhen I become emperor…
Amazon will be closed immediately. Jeff Bezos will be fired into space on his phallic rocket. Tesla will be closed. Fossil fuels aren’t the problem, cars are. Elon Musk, rocket, space etc. Gigafactories and Amazon warehouses to be turned into massive drinking establishments.
Any country with an income disparity where the top 1% earn more than 10x the lowest earners will be cleansed and turned into a lovely park with benches and nice views, and pubs.
Every house must be within a 15 minute walk of a nice pub. One with a good range of hand pulled ales and good food cooked from scratch. Anyone wearing a football shirt at any time, either while in or outside of said pub, will be banned for life from all of them.
Tories to be shot on sight. Preferably from the comfort of a beer garden.
northernmattFull MemberFirst car was a Fiesta Mk3 1.3 LX 3dr (L571 XKH) – went halfs with the girl I was with at the time. Sold it about 8 months later as we split up, only lost £100 in that time.
Then had another, same model but 5dr. Broke the engine mounts on that one by wheel spinning away from every set of lights within a 20 mile radius of Hull.
Last one was a Mk5 ST150 facelift. It had a full stainless straight through exhaust and had the cat removed. It is still the loudest car I have ever driven. Took it from Sunderland to Revs one weekend and that is the only time I ever went further than 20 miles in it as it just induced headaches. Power steering rack started leaking and a return replacement was going to be £300 plus £200 labour so it got binned off.
northernmattFull MemberI really dislike what F1 and the fans are becoming – it’s more and more tribal and if you like Max you hate Lewis, or vice versa
This is why I generally avoid this thread. This thread is pretty placid though compared to F1 Twitter which is a vast cesspool of hate from every angle.
northernmattFull MemberMy go-to mellow single malt is Glenmorangie 10-year-old, the yellow label.
I think it’s an absolute classic and one of the best-balanced whiskies I’ve enjoyed.
This, Glenmorangie is about right for someone wanting to start on whiskey. It’s what I started with before I started getting others in.
Or just buy a bottle of Lagavulin 16yo – that’s all you’ll ever need.
northernmattFull MemberI worked behind the counter at a plumbers merchant for 14 years. Every young lad that we saw coming in was doing an apprenticeship and they eventually end up being qualified and were allowed to work alone, or some left and started up by themselves. Plumbers are as tight fisted as they come so apprentices are good because they are cheap.
Personally I think he will struggle to find someone that pays a good wage without him having experience. Also, if he does want experience I wouldn’t say fitting bathrooms in new houses is the best option, it’s all pushfit plastic which frankly anyone with two hands could put together.
Has he thought about doing his gas certs? That would make him more employable but it’s more outlay for him and he’ll still need the experience. If he can find someone friendly they might allow him to tag along and ask questions while they are on a job.
northernmattFull MemberThe trouble is wherever you go there will always be arseholes. They are unavoidable, but it just so happens that they seem to have proliferated in this country over the past few years. Or maybe they are just more noticeable now.
Anyway, I’d gladly move to the South of France, ideally coastal but not in a city or town. Easy drive to northern Spain and Italy. Rest of Europe not too far behind.
northernmattFull MemberYou’ll need to replace the receiver and the remote. They usually come as a pair. Last time I tried to find a Honeywell remote stat by itself it was 90% of the price of the full thing.
northernmattFull MemberYeah I’d be getting someone in to do it. I’ve wired in a new light fitting and changed a switch but that’s about as far as I can get.
I get what you mean about getting the same person back each time, best get someone that isn’t on the verge of retirement.
It’s a 1920s 4-bed semi so it’s pretty big compared to more modern properties.
northernmattFull MemberThanks for all the replies. We would be adding new/more sockets and light fixtures. As it’s not been looked at for quite a while there’s a lack of outlets and some of the ceiling roses are in odd positions.
It’s not a case of cost just upheaval, 2 kids makes it more difficult as well. I know the mess would be everywhere but as we would be living there we wouldn’t be redecorating all in one go. So then we’d have to live with patched walls and ceilings for however long.
northernmattFull MemberColdWarSteve
Brian BilstonThere’s more but I cba doomscrolling through my follows
northernmattFull MemberIf you were 4 I’d say the Berlingo as with others. However, I’m 6’1″ and I have the seat all the way back so you would probably find it cramped. Also, 3 across the back is fine if you don’t have a car seat in, they take up a lot more room than you think and the middle seat is pretty narrow.
What about a Honda F-RV? You can get 3 across in the front in one of them. Or just go the full size MPV route, VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy etc
northernmattFull MemberMushrooms – used to absolutely abhor the bloody things. Now I’ll just chop some up and throw them in a frying pan with some garlic for a quick lunch without even thinking about it.
northernmattFull MemberAlso I cant really gauge the size of it. Is it a nice UK suitable vehicle or is it a full on Yank Tank?
Same headline measurements as a Model Y but it’s a lot more boxy so will probably appear bigger.
northernmattFull MemberYep that’s a bit misleading. Still though a £35k SUV shaped EV with a claimed 270 mile range (based on simulations in line with WLTP standards) sounds better than an equivalent Kia Niro EV.
