Bosch do fixed price repairs for somewhere around £300
I just came here to say this exact same thing. I worked in a boiler spares merchant for 14 years and I could count on the fingers of Jeremy Beadle’s small hand the amount of Worcester Bosch main heat exchangers we sold in that time.. The fact that WB themselves will replace it for less than you can even buy the part makes it a complete no-brainer.
northernmattFull Member1989 Batmobile, (~£200 when available new) £350 used, £400 new.
Ltd edition small 89 Batmobile, that came free with the above, £250
Orange 911, think I paid £160 when it was on offer, £350, used & still built…That mini-batmobile price is insane, according to Bircklink the average price is £104. I’ve got a 1989 Batmobile sealed in the box, I’m saving it for a rainy day. I’ve also got the Orange 911 GT3RS but that’s never going anywhere.
4northernmattFull MemberUgh, what happened to the warning when clicking through to Daily Wail links (I didn’t read the URL).
northernmattFull MemberIIRC 600 rads only go down to 400W – you’ll easily get a 700×300 though
1northernmattFull MemberWell done OP. I’m in a similar boat, I drive a lot for work so I used to buy a pack of tabs so I had something to do to ease the boredom, this descended into having a sneaky one at every opportunity. I’d smoked on and off for 20+ years but never got into 20 a day territory. It wasn’t doing me any favours health wise either.
I decided to try a disposable vape instead just over 3 months ago and I haven’t even thought about spending £15 on a pack of tabs since. I need to get hold of a reusable one as I’m not too happy about the environmental impact of the disposables. Long term I’d like to eliminate the vape altogether but that’s a way off yet.
1northernmattFull MemberI found the best solution is a combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen. 4hr gaps between doses but alternate them so you take paracetamol then in 2hrs ibuprofen, 2hrs paracetamol, rinse and repeat.
Obviously leave this until tomorrow when the gin wears off, you’ll need the paracetamol then anyway.
northernmattFull MemberQuite often, usually because I type out a stream of consciousness and realise it’s entirely cobblers. The rest of the time it’s because I simply cannot be arsed trying to read an already pages long thread to see if someone has already said it, and even if I do write something worth posting I haven’t got the inclination to keep tabs on whether anyone has replied/shouted from on high/called BS.
northernmattFull MemberIf you watch TV shows when they are shown then get freeview, if you do them all on demand just get a Chromecast etc.
Though tbh most of the streaming apps for BBC, C4, ITV etc all now do live TV so it’s possibly easier just to get a Chromecast.
northernmattFull Member2 – green for stuff, blue for recycling stuff – brown bin for garden waste is optional at £40 a year
The only time I’ve seen more full size bins than that at a domestic property was in Germany in around 1993 when the word recycling didn’t exist with local councils in the UK. IIRC it was one for general waste with the 3 others being various forms of recycling.
northernmattFull MemberCan it be The Culture – please, pretty please?
This^
I think if humanity managed to actually sort it’s shit out and the entirety of us managed to work together we could probably have interstellar travel worked out in a fortnight. Instead we have all sorts of companies/countries/ego-driven billionaires each with their own agenda of how to get into space/back to the moon.
northernmattFull MemberPremier Inn is our go to with Travelodge as a second choice. I would look for an apartment though, we managed to get a 2 bed place near Tower Bridge for a decent price the last time we went.
1northernmattFull Member2018 so would have needed MOT in 2021 – I find it hard to believe that it’s been sat for 2 years. Through the pandemic vans were in very high demand, prices went crazy so for it to have not sold sounds a bit iffy.
northernmattFull MemberUsed Select Specs quite a few times mainly for backup pairs as they can be had for about £6 a pair with standard lenses. Quality for the price is excellent and I am probably going to get my good framed reglazed with, them as they’re pretty scratched (and I want reactive lenses).

northernmattFull Member“Nigel Noize”.
http://the-67.com/Kind of cool!
What the hell is that website, I thought geocities was shut down about 20 years ago.
Our next door neighbour refuses to use his recycling bin. Instead what he does is sneaks out with full black bags and puts them in other peoples bins if they’ve left them out. Did it to me once just after they’d been emptied, took it out and put it next to his back door. Not happened since.
northernmattFull MemberI haven’t been in the merchant side of things for 3 years now, but for the 14 years I was doing the selling they were always my go to when looking for brassware. The spares service alone was worth it, frequently all it took was a photo of the offending article and they would come back with the part code and price pretty quickly.
Just make sure you pick a known brand, there’s far too many cheap bathroom companies that change their ranges endlessly and trying to get spares was a nightmare. B&Q, Wickes and other also fall into this category.
1northernmattFull Member30 minutes at gas mark 5
For those with a fan oven that’s 190c – known in our house as the temperature everything cooks at regardless of instructions
northernmattFull MemberI don’t think it’s the one linked above, the aerator is at an angle and yours point straight down.
Closest I could find it this https://www.bakerandsoars.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=7440 – looks to just be generic cheap made in china/turkey brassware – you’ll be lucky to find spares unless you can get the cartridge out and compare to some others online. Failing that it’s new tap time (buy Bristan).
northernmattFull MemberI’m having trouble visualising the litres per Wales thing, can someone translate it to swimming pools (olympic) please. Also, if someone would like to calculate the volume of double decker bus and see how many of those it would be per Wales it would be appreciated.
2northernmattFull MemberIs it that they aren’t competitive or just that everyone else has caught up? The redesign really didn’t help, I hope whoever headed that project up got their P45 swiftly afterwards.
I’ve used them twice in the past 4 years and even then I’ve spent barely £80 over those two transactions. I feel the same way about them as I do Amazon, I’d rather spend my money locally with real people.
1northernmattFull Member9 miles a day then – sounds easier when it’s single digits. 63 miles gets you 6 days off and time to recover. Even bagging a couple of 27/36 mile rides gives you a bit of breathing space so it becomes less onerous having to do it every single day. Obviously you’ll have to work up to that but a flat-ish 18 miler would be a good start.
northernmattFull MemberI haven’t looked at balance bikes since December 2014 (bought an Isla Rothan which was then £109) and I honestly cannot believe that in 9 years the price has nearly doubled. £200 for a balance bike is insane.
Just buy a used Rothan, you’ll be able to sell it for pretty much what you paid for it when your mini-yoshimi grows out of it in about 18 months.
northernmattFull MemberFather in law was having a dream he was playing for Sunderland in the FA Cup final, he was in the box and a cross was sent over to him so he jumped and went for the header, right into the mother in laws face.
This was years ago, before I met the wife, but I laughed my head off when he first told me the story.
northernmattFull MemberI have no idea how good they are but I’d get one of these https://www.trailoutdoorleisure.co.uk/folding-beach-trolley.html (or a cargo bike)
The 2/3 wheel upright ones just remind me of grannies.
northernmattFull MemberI’ll be up for joining as and when I can. Local riding buddies have petered out and the ones I do still keep in touch with lives miles away. Not only that I really need to be someone who rides bikes rather than a fat bloke that just has bikes in the shed. This weekend will be too short notice but keep me in the loop for future rides out.
I’m in Sunderland so within easy reach of Hamsterley etc, much the same as hot_fiat as I think he’s not far away. Plus I can always get on the C2C route which while not being hilly or techy is at last getting some miles done.
northernmattFull MemberNew complete bikes only
1993(ish) – Apollo 3000 – must have been made of tungsten, was incredibly heavy
1996 – Marin Bolinas Ridge
<gap for beer, weed, women>
2010 – Revolution Triad from Edinburgh Cycles
2013 – Voodoo Bantu
2014 – On One Fatty
2016 – Pinnacle Arkose
2018 – Cotic Rocket
Plus numerous other bikes made from bits and bobs, or bought secondhand.
2northernmattFull MemberManaged to leave the car key in the hire car while we were in Spain.
Unfortunately it was the key for my car, and the hire car was on the other side of security, and the plane I was sat on had just taken off when I realised.
northernmattFull MemberLosing an arm wrestle against a lass in The Robin Hood in Brighton, not that but going back for a second go and losing again.
I just don’t see where I fit in to anything so me not ever existing at all would make no difference whatsoever to anyone.
Next time I’m down your way I’m bringing the bike and booking a day off so you can wait for me at the top of every hill. Besides we need someone to keep Jon in check and you’re closest.
northernmattFull MemberOnly issue is older rads were imperial lengths so if the pipework doesn’t have a bit of flex to adjust for a modern metric length that is slightly different you need a tail that adjusts to take up the difference
Or buy Myson Premier HE rads which are still measured in inches, and weirdly still fitted in some new builds.
northernmattFull MemberWatched The Wedding Singer the other night so this is an obvious one
northernmattFull MemberWe’re going to visit the inlaws in La Zenia in October half-term. We’ve done it before and it was mostly as above, mid-20s, sea is a bit chilly, pool should be fine.
northernmattFull MemberI’ve had endless adverts for it as well. The last thing I want is some mass produced plastic shite from China, it’s one of the many reasons I refuse to use Amazon. The eldest wanted loom bands (remember them?) but we managed to get him to agree that buying them would be bad for environmental reasons.
northernmattFull MemberI must have walked past Dockerills loads of times while living in Brighton and didn’t even know it was there, probably because I was usually on the way home from the pub. Does the Mash Tun still have the Dead Pool board behind the bar?
northernmattFull Member@granny_ring the Ninja Dual Zone one has two drawers so can do a full chicken and roasties. There two sizes, we have the bigger one which you’ll need if there’s more than two of you.
I’m sure there’s others that have two compartments but I’m just doing the recommend what you have thing.
northernmattFull Member@hot_fiat – there’s a couple on Hylton Road – Tradelink DIY just down from the hospital, the other is down the bottom near the roundabout, sells calor gas plus loads of other stuff.
Growing up in Scarborough I always remember going into Clock Handyman on Victoria Road. I don’t know if it’s still the same but it’s a warren and they seemed to always sell anything you might need.

The Coleman fuel is good but expensive when compared to petrol at only £1.40 a litre. A tank lasts ages though so it’s easy for unleaded to go-off if you don’t use it often.
edit: a google suggests that maybe it’s also worth cleaning the generator (the brass bit and tube) with carb cleaner.
northernmattFull MemberGot a Kenwood MultiOne which promises to be all things to all men/women/chefs. In reality most of the things it does can be done better by a dedicated (cheaper) thing. Used it a bit for bread through COVID but in reality that’s because I was being a lazy bastard rather than it being any good.
