As above you can usually cancel up to around 48hrs before for no cost. I’ve just rebooked car hire for us going to Spain next week as it was £105 cheaper than when I booked it two months ago.

I’ve only hired once from Geneva and ended up going through Argus but the car was from Enterprise. Elsewhere I’ve always used Zest.

Has anyone ever been pulled for not having a GB/UK badge on? We went at least once a year until 2020 and only once had a badge. That was through France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

We used these – worked a lot better than the powder stuff.

I had the special edition of this which had some excellent covers on disc 2. I haven’t listened to it for ages.

Also, even though skate/pop punk stopped being cool in around 2010 I still absolutely love these two

Are you close to the airport? Jet2 offer Twilight check-in and bag drop the night before if you’re flying before 12pm

    https://www.jet2.com/en/twilight

Didn’t even know this was a thing. We’re flying out on the 31st so I’m going to drop the cases off the day before as we’re only half an hour away and it’s a 6am flight.

Probably the 58ish mile Moors and Shores adventure cross/gravel thing. I was unfit to begin with and I’d done minimal training. 95% off road gravel tracks with a lot of little ups and downs on a CX bike with crap gearing and crapper brakes. I was a mess at the end of that. The first day of the C2C is similar but as it’s a lot of road it’s much easier and sets you up nicely for an easy second day into Allenheads.

That or the day me and a bunch of mates did the Edale Classic route in 2015 (I think) but from Hope so we had the Mam Tor climb as well. It was the hottest day of year and there’s no hiding from the sun once you’re out. The pint in the pub at Edale was most welcome, the ride back to the campsite after was not

The garage in the garage is small but superb (ok so it has a fiat 131 Abarth in it, I could just sit and drool over it for hours).

    Username checks out

Another vote for Iain Banks both non-SF and SF. I took Stonemouth with me when I was away with work and inadvertently stayed up until 1.30am two nights running while reading it.

If you want proper brain out action/thriller/spy-esque rubbish take a few Clive Cussler books with you. Doesn’t matter which ones as they all have the same basic plot but they are strangely enjoyable.

An riding acquaintance of mine tore his front brake hose out on a stile. Didn’t notice and went haring down the next hill, he couldn’t stop and hit a slate dry stone wall. A piece of slate went through his calf and did some nasty damage. Has titanium plates in now. This was all before I met him.

I was in the Alps (blue down from Avoriaz into Les Lindarets if you know it) and managed to boil the rear brake on the DH bike I had at the time. We were just doing swoopy park type stuff but it was fun seeing how much speed I could carry using only a front brake.

As I keep banging on about how many of societies ills are related to lack of good quality, affordable social housing, I’d be keen to put my money where my mouth has been.

I’ve thought about this. I’d buy properties to let out but rather than just pocketing the income I’d put it in a holding account. 2yrs down the line hand that 24months worth of rent back as a mortgage deposit and sell the house to the tenant. Repeat to fade/death/lack of money.

Parents just had 8x PV panels installed through a green home grant in conjunction with the local council. Cost them nothing so I assume the install company is going to pocket any feed in tariff. Working well so far though as the only electric they used yesterday was when the sun went in and they put the kettle on.

best answer would be “ask the game developers”

This. Some games as well as saving data to Google Play also sync data with the game devs servers. An example would be AdVenture Capitalist, it uses the devs server time so you can’t use your phone’s date/time to cheat and get loads of progress for no work. Sometimes you can see this as you’ll have unique ID which shows up on loading screens or is hidden away within the depths of the settings menu in the game itself.

Another option is that sometimes a game will allow you to link progress to a social media account like Facebook. All depends on the game to be honest.

The hard thing with soup is not having a slice or two of bread with it to mop it up. OP have you thought about those ‘complete nutrition’ powdered shakes like Huel – works out at about £1.40 a day I think. I have never tried any of them so be interesting to hear other people’s opinions.

Probably not many places at less than £100 a board. We used to supply them and paid not far shy of that for plain white and that was before timber prices went through the roof.

As above, for your budget you’ll be looking at plastic ones.

The small petrol engine/MPG argy bargy reminds me of the test Top Gear did years ago.
Clarkson wanted to prove a V8 M3 was more eco than some basic 1l engined hatchback, quite possibly a Dacia, I don’t remember.

That was a Prius which has a CVT so driven hard is at the top of it’s rev range constantly, plus it’s a 1.8 so hardly comparable to a 1.0L 3-cyl petrol engine. Anyway, who in their right mind drives flat out constantly.

fuel economy at higher speeds will largely be dictated by wind resistance and I guess the frontal area of this car is quite large

Try explaining that to all the thick-necked coked up dickheads rumbling round in Range Rover Sports.

I don’t know of any, designed my shed but that’s a fairly simple/small lean to. Sketched it out on paper and just nailed stuff together. Parents have just decided it’s easier to buy one and have someone (me) put it together.

If it was me doing it again and I wanted something fairly straightforward I’d just buy one. The only reason I’d design/build is if I wanted something for an odd shape or certain features.

I really like the look of that. But then there’s quite a lot of the UCS Star Wars sets I wouldn’t mind having. To be honest I’d only buy it because I really want the VIP Mandalorian key ring.

    Full fat, 4.8s or bigger

I’d say this. I had Nates on my fatty which were ‘only’ 3.8 and they just seemed to grip and go so I can only imagine what 4.8 would have been like.

I quite like the term ‘Jaywalking’.
I don’t really know what it is but I quite fancy doing it.

If you’ve ever crossed a road not at a crossing you’ve already done it.

More Johnny Cash, IMO this is one of the best cover versions of a song by anyone.

Also, if anyone puts up that horrific cover of Sound of Silence by Disturbed then you’re wrong, so very very wrong.

    Or, skip breakfast.

I tried this but by the time it got round to lunch I was so hungry that I just ended up being a big fat pig and eating everything in sight.

Much like OP I need to cut out things like crisps, cakes, biscuits, and the like. Also beer, I need to drink less beer.

Curveball, and the fuel economy won’t be anything to write home about, but what about something along the lines of a Nissan Elgrand or Toyota Alphard? Readily available for well under your budget which will give you some spare pennies to spend on petrol. I imagine if you weren’t doing a huge amount of miles in it then it could make perfect sense.

As in you bought it in 1989?

Nope, I see now that to the untrained eye it was an ambiguous description. Set #76139 is the Batmobile from the 1989 Tim Burton Batman movie but was only retired in late 2021 having been on the market for a couple of years.

    Limited run Lego

This, but get it in a sale if you can to maximise profits. Modular buildings are always a good earner as are the larger Technic sets. I have a 1989 Batmobile which I got as an investment and it’s now worth just over double what I paid.

I’ve been using the Zoom cable hydraulics on my GT grade for 2 years plus now. Much as I expected to die, they just keep rolling on.

I didn’t even know these were a thing. £34 on ebay for front and rear which is nearly a quarter of the price of a single HY/RD caliper. I’ve procrastinated about upgrading the rubbish Tektro mechanical discs on the Arkose for ages now so I’m going to take a punt. The single thread I found on here seems to have no bad news about them.
