    Cheers peeps.

    So, something like this:

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/tp-link-tl-wa801nd-n300-wireless-n-access-point-n45ql

Looking out of the window, 150m is maybe optimistic. The previous owner had it working so must be doable. One way to find out.

I know what you are up to in your ‘garage’

You don’t know the half of it and the other half you don’t want to know 😉

Gregsd – we’re there Sunday and Monday so the beer festival is a no-go. 🙁

Pictonroad – I do happen to have a 4×4 (Landy) but its not coming so Slindon is out. Sham as its somewhere I’d like to have had a play. C’est la vie.

Strongly suspect that Bognor is a no go but bluebells are a winner so that could feature.

Once again, ta for all the replies,

Our lass is 5½ months pregnant so walking is fine so long as she/we get a rest every now and again. She managed 10 miles around the Gower last weekend.

Birds are all good, castle sounds good, Chichester sounds interesting, whats Bognor actually like? I imagine lots of old people waiting to die…

Bigyinn has me slightly concerned we’re off to Fawlty Towers though!

Thanks for all the help so far. Its appreciated.

Cool cool – plenty of stuff to go at there; thanks folks.

Bigyinn – it is the Norfolk Arms Hotel – was posh a description too far?? Too late now…

    Keep anything else coming.

I found out about the (eg) 130 thing by accident and was chuffed!

I’ll endeavour to pay it forward indeed 😀

    Welcome to Brizzle!

Definitely get involved in the STW massive wednesday ride / emails as mentioned above. Ant does a good job of keeping the momentum going & the rides are fun. And the excuses for not riding are varied and entertaining enough in themselves!!

I’ve been here a few years now and absolutely love it.

    Cracking city.

    Cheers, Paul

Rob – thanks; how would I enter this in Excel so I can just tupe in (eg) 0130. The time is not used in any arithmetic at all.

Irelanst – ideally I don’t want to enter another column if needs be

Nick – If it was down to me it would be entered 0130 but its a long running project and the client wants continuity. Booo!

Thanks for the help so far. I’m offline for 12 hours now as its the end of my shift and WiFi hasn’t reached this vessel yet!

    Cheers, Paul

    +1 P-Jay & Cougar; I really couldn’t put it better myself.

Still don’t have a microwave though – only miss it for heating up leftovers and making porridge in a less messy fashion.

I always have to tell myself that getting out of the door is the hardest thing. Also worth remembering that bad weather always looks worse out of the window.

+1 for wrapping in gaffer tape. I also put it under a heavy old towel when pressurising it as well.

Fun DIY with a hint of mild danger! Whats not to like?

Offshore hydrographic surveyor; I know I know, you asked for office based engineers but I thought I’d throw it in anyway!

180 days a year off. Usually, but given the downturn I’ve worked 158 days this year so far. So, lots of time off but no solid rota this year so virtually impossible to plan although we can take 23 days booked holiday so summer holidays etc can be booked. Next year I’ll be off Angola on a 6 week on 6 week off rota.

Nine to five would destroy me now. How short are the weekends…?

Still, working Christmas and New Year this year so not all good.

On t’other hand it’ll be 200 days off this year by the end 8)

Ooooh, I loves a Landy thread. Some lovely examples on here. I’ll throw mine into the mix:

Ex-military 90 running a Turner Engineering 300Tdi and a few other bits and pieces uprated. I wouldn’t be without it.

I picked up a Madison Roam jacket off the Bay recently. An unused present still with tags for £45 8)
It was a bit of a punt but I’m happily impressed with it. Its well thought out with some good features, a nice feeling fabric, vented & not too boil in the bag (I run hot too).
I’m 6’1″ medium build and the XL is ideal & I’d agree its a relaxed fit. You could wear it for post ride pints in the pub without looking too “MTB”…

No complaints here, its money well spent. For reference I am using a tediously slow offshore internet connection and STW is by far and away the most useable website going. It remembers my details, no ads. Its great! 8)

Nice one. That’s a great read & fair play for the ride. Your old man would have been proud.

Take cash. As has been mentioned its a really safe country – its weird to see Japanese people arrive in a pub or café, leave all their stuff on a free table then go to the bar/counter to order.

Just be sensible but don’t be paranoid.

10000 Yen notes are easy to transport around and can be changed into smaller denominations as required.

buy a first class rail pass, it’s not much more

Whilst this is true, the Shinkansen (bullet trains) are really pretty good in standard class. The main disadvantage of getting a green pass (first class) is that all your travel has to be reserved. Fine if every journey is planned to a tee but it really restricts you if you have a more vague plan and just want to get the next train or the one after your planned time. Save your money – it can be better spent!

Get a Suica card as described – really useful. Plus you can return them to any JR station and they will refund the card when you are done – think it’s 500 or 1000¥ – not much but all helps.

We were there a month ago & I’d love to go back. It’s a wonderful country.

Also the toilets are ace…. 😉

Agree with all the good advice above.

If you are using the trains (assume you are seeing as you are getting a pass!), download an app called Hyperdia. It’s free for a month. You input the station you are travelling from and the station you are travelling to & it will tell you everything you need to know: the name of the train, the departure time and platform, any connections you need to make & your arrival time and platform. It never let us down once. It’s superb.
If you are travelling home from Narita airport, check your railcard dates! Ours ran out the day before so we had to pay to get to the airport on the train.
Other than that, jump in feet first and try everything (including sea anenome sushi!).
Trip Advisor has a useful feature that can display a restaurant name in large text in the local language: this helped us more than once as you can show it to a local and they can point you in the right direction.

It’s an amazing country. Enjoy it!

The word ‘chillax’ – you may relax, you may chill but chillax boils my urine.

I could add so many things but I’m in a good mood so will leave it at that.

    As you were.

I’m generally pretty chilled but ‘inconsideration’ be it, as CoolhandLuke refers, middle lane twonks, people who stop in doors or bottom of escalators when they don’t know where to go – get out of the way fool -, a general lack of manners, dog poo in bags (really, you took the effort to bag it and then you just left it?), arghh, just ‘the public’ in general a lot of the time…

Currently working away offshore but due back this coming week. Keen for a meet up for ride & cider/beers. Only back for a week then off for a few weeks again. I’m sure we can sort something. It’s great to hear from so many Brizzle residents on here. Big up the Brizzle massive (& Molgrips too, providing ‘balance’ 😉 )

I moved up from Devon a few years ago (username not entirely accurate these days!) & I really, really like it; yes traffic is grim but I work away so don’t need to drive & can cycle everywhere. Good local riding, great music, great food, cider anyone?? So, whilst it is expensive it is a great place to live. But then I’m originally from Doncaster so anywhere would be great after that… I never realised how many STWers are based here. I think my emails in my profile if anyone fancies a ride/cider sometime

Whilst I have nothing to help constructively, I add my sympathy & hope everything works out OK. I enjoy the occasional session (used to be far more) but since working offshore with the worry of possible random drug testing it’s not worth it although I am up for redundancy so might have to overindulge soon. I fear the hand wringing and naysayers will come out in the morning for you on here though 😉 Good luck fella
