Not much too add – thank you for everything you’ve done for all the people over the course of your career.

Sister in law is a paramedic – I’m away to check up on her…..

Good man – enjoy that retirement

Polar H10 works too, not the cheapest but its what I had already and was happy to find it works fine. Same for the Edge 530 too.

Looks like I should be shopping around for XT shifter then!

    Will do.

    Thanks for the help all.

Cheers, XT shift is out of stock for standard bar mount. Deore mech is 11sp, rather than 12sp?

Thanks for confirmation my basket will work – good tip on the cassette though.

Don’t think my mild OCD could cope with a black and silver chain! One or the other…

    12sp

Interesting…. So, would the above basket work? I’m not sure on what chain length to go for.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have a Land Rover 90 that is left unused for 5-6 weeks at a time due to my work pattern.

I looked at battery monitors but ended up with a CTEK intelligent trickle charger as the Landy is garaged.

    Bluetooth monitors do exist:

    Battery Monitor

Solar Trickle charger is a good shout too.

Any trickle vents on the window?

No, not on this one. Only the ones in the kitchen and bathroom.

Hmmm, better than expected! Thanks for all the replies.

Its in the hall / landing so not a damp space really.

Not sure whats happened to the photo…

Will get some Coo-Var and have a close look at the window.

    Cheers all!

Cracking read! Good on you fella, bikes is all good.

Which reminds me, I must ride mine more…

Glad you both had a great time, rain be damned!

Cheers for the replies – I’m aware it’s a pretty niche subject.

Yeah, Life Fitness are big bucks. There are places that offer refurbished ones for a significant saving so that could be a goer.

The search / research goes on for now.

Thanks for the post @5lab. I’m away with work until next week so sometime to think.

Something I forgot to put in the origional post is that I asked if the dealer would mind if I had it independently inspected and he has no issues whatsoever with me arranging that.

My infernal umming and ahhhing continue…

    Hello all.

Thanks for the advice, which broadly seems to be walk away & keep looking!

Which is what I think I’ll do.

Plenty more fish in the sea etc etc!

Just checking in quickly while at work – thank you so much to all who have taken the time to reply.

Old skool XC is sounding marvellous!

I’ll check out the Core Paths website and start planning in earnest a bit more now I have had some positive replies.

You lot are brilliant! Roll on August and riding somewhere new.

    Many thanks, Paul

I use treadmills at work (offshore, survey ships) – I can’t wait to get home and run in the real world!

It seems to be harder to run in the real world – I guess treadmills are glorified bouncing…

Genuine question but why does your wife want one (especially in your garage!)??

Yup, it’s another vote for Jabra Elite Active 65T.

I spent years suffering inferior ‘gym’ headphones; first cheap wired, then cheap BT with a ‘connecting’ wire. Never found satisfaction.

A guy I work with had a set of the Jabras & let me try them. Ordered myself a set there and then.

Comfy, never fallen out, great sound, great battery life. They just work. Very well.

    Very, very happy user here.

Great read – I love posts like this.

    Cheers for sharing.

Toddler, working away from home for long periods and another spawn on the way are diminishing my adventures, at least in the short term.

    As you were…

    Bollocks to Rodney!

I’m home and having made a Windows 10 USB I’ve done a clean install.

All is good and I am well chuffed.

Cheers for all the replies that put my mind at rest!

    Big up the STW massive.

    Quick update:

After submitting a support request via Acers website I had a reply from Rodney.

Apparently, given that the Restore didn’t work, they think it should be returned to investigate an issue with the hard drive.

I’m sceptical based on the collective knowledge from the STW hive mind – I’ve emailed back to try and get more information re. if its in warranty or if I’m expected to pay. The replies just seem a little ‘generic’ to me.

More exciting updates when they happen…

    You lot are great.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease a bit.

I’m struggling to get on to PCW Cougar – same issue with the phone and long waits. They also don’t seem to have an email address for customer services. Staggering for a business selling computers…

    I’ll be downloading W10 & undertaking a clean install.

I’ll update this thread when the time comes.

    Cheers for the replies.

I will be unable to do anything until I get home.

I can’t phone Acer – the phone is limited availability on board the ship & I can’t justify hogging it whilst I am (possibly) interminably put on hold.

Internet access is very slow and I only have a number of old, smaller memory sticks.

I’ll get a brand new 8gb (min) USB stick ordered and attempt a new build when I get home.

    Fingers crossed!

Thanks for all the replies – some hilarious, some really useful and then the rest.

I’m not justifying our family’s holiday destination choice – if I wanted advice about holiday destinations I’d have asked about that!

There’s plenty of food for thought & some of you have really made me laugh. Others I just roll my eyes at!

I’ve been silently following this thread &, damn, this place is simply awesome.

I echo Lunges thought that people never look like I have them in my head from their screen names.

Long live the gnusmobile & long live the awesomeness of STW.

Its a lovely feeling to finish a 5 week (dry) offshore trip & get a morning flight home; bloody Mary, full cooked breakfast and a few pints makes me one happy traveler, another few on the plane gets me out of a midnight to midday shift beautifully! (I don’t have to drive at the other end)

I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt for now; having been in touch with them I got a similar response to ajantom above, I then asked them about a time frame that they expect to have a reply from Evoc & James advised “no later than the end of the week but hopefully in a few days”.

We’ll see. Seems Evoc dropped the ball.

I recently had a set of Roam bluetooth headphones from them, just for running / gym & they were great; fitwise, comfortwise but the volume was laughably low at ‘full’ volume. I sent them a polite email explaining my disappointment & had the full cost refunded within 12 hours.

    Lets see.

As an aside to the OP, there are a few of us STW types in the area. It is a great area to live, as you say up & coming. Are you Brizzle based already? If you are new to the area (& the purchase goes through OK) then possibly see you in the Dark Horse for a cheeky one! Email in profile if you want any further info on the area or people to ride with.

    PS – house looks lovely!

I think I’m the other Bristol STWer Alpha1653 was referring to! **waves**

I’m East Bristol based but always keen to explore new areas. I’m away with work until next week & early doors suits me on account of young family.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for updates!

I’ll be bringing up the rear slowly on my ancient 26″ wheels and calling for frequent cake stops!!

I’d like wireless so that I have the option of which device I use, rather than being tied in to the laptop (plus taking my laptop to the garage every time).

150m between house and garage? Worst “I live in a country manor house” thread ever!
Or he lives in a council flat and rents a lock up three streets away.

Busted… But its only 2 streets away! I thought I’d thrown you all with judicious use of ‘garden’. Its like a public garden aka a park! 😆

Yeah, there is electricity down there but I thought seeing as the previous owner ran CAT5 down there I’d use that.

wwaswas – yep, wire to the garage is going straight into the Virgin Hub 3 access point in the kitchen and t’other end will plug straight into the TP Link WAP.

This run of cable is around 150m

Ooh, look how BIG my garden is!

It was an overestimation I think. As a guy its something I all too frequently do… 😆
