Nobody got a Silk road on drops??

Iv bought 2 ti frames from PX both delivered within a few days both were showing in stock when ordered.

Also bought a carbon hardtail from PX again in stock delivered within a few days.

Current gravel bike is a Ti Tempest, bar far my fave bike, If you can hang on I would, if it arrives in time for summer you will love it!

There are huge issues with shipping currently, the company I work for had some containers due back from Japan early January, they needed to leave again in late March to be at another destination. In the end the containers never made it back to the UK as the predicted delay meant they wouldn’t be back in time to meet the departure date. We shipped direct to the next destination!

Its not just a PX problem, its a global logistics problem.

    Another tempest owner here

first proper gravel bike was an ally nukeproof digger. Liked that and bought a used tempest (from stw classifieds)

As another’s have said the standard wheels are a bit low rent but the previous owner had fitted some hunt wheels a carbon seat post and a hope stem.
Really like how it rides and think it fits very well

I also have a silkroad set up on (copy) Jones bars with 2.2 xc tyres on. Of course that’s better when further off road but a bit lazy on the road.

if I was confined to one bike it would have to be the Tempest.
that’s said I’d like to try the Silk Road on smaller lighter tyres and drop bars.
that could be the next project!

I bought a pair of the brackets and bags that the OP posted the link too.
arrived the other day. The brackets look decent and durable. The bags are fine for the money I think they are good value.

Im a long term fan of the Northwave Celsius boots, I have  had about 4 pairs, usually get a good few winters out of them, more now im riding more gravel and less MTB.

I think they have changed the design in recent years so maybe not as high, or as good….. but the older version are very good. They did an arctic version that had more insulation (i think)

    older version

Have a gravel bike on drops that I enjoy  and also a titus silk road with the Geoff bars fron on one.

I do find it very comfortable for bimbling around a bit further off road than the drop bar bike, not quite as quick but its on wider tyres

    @mattmee

whats actually out of alignment with the frame

I have a medium, it rides well. The cable routing all seems fairly logical to me.

I have rebuilt quite a few with a very basic bleed kit and some basic tools. As someone mention above there are two oil circuits that are in no way connected.

The Post circuit, and the remote lever circuit. Bleeding the the lever will not cure the saggy post.

Saggy post is  air past the seal inside the post, this is usually caused by lifting the bike, by the saddle when the post is down / partly down, this causes the post to extend without the internal valve being in the open position so air is drawn past the seals.

The post will need to be stripped and the oil height and seal repositioned. Then put back together. Its not difficult but a bit of a faff.

I’m not saying don’t buy a Brand-X  i’m just saying that the reverbs can usually be fixed without spending much money if you don’t mind messing about and watching a few youtube tutorials

You do need a bleed kit, a home made oil height tool (bit of cut down tube) an adjustable spanner and a vice is very handy.

I had A chameleon 29er when they first came out in the really nice olive green / purple combo.

Notes on that bike. the basic bike is well quite basic. The 34 fox grip forks were ok but nothig better than ok the sram level brake looked cheap performed ok but felt a bit on or off.
Forks got upgraded to some reduced height Pikes and the brakes to some Hopes.
I had also bought both sets of rear drop outs and 2 sets of wheels so could run it as 29er or 27.5+ this was part of the appeal of the bike.
I ran it 29 first then 27.5+ with some 2.8 maxxxis tyres. I persevered for a long time with 27.5+ before admitting it really wasnt for me and took the fast rolling pace and some of the fun out of the bike.
Then…. i realised I had almost enough parts to build another bike, minus a frame. The new One-On Scandal came out with the usual on-one price cuts to get some chatter going about the new bikes, so i picked up a cheap Scandal frame.

Now the Scandal is a bit slacker than the Chameleon, not loads, but a bit. It isnt as well finished but its very similar.
So I put the scandal together with all the left over bits, and… well for me it was better.
Maybe not for everyone, but for what I was riding which is a bit of everything from biggish days in the Lakes to some bike packing it just rode a bit better. I think most of it was the slacker head angle as most of the geometry is similar.

Im no brand snob, so I kept the pikes and the hope brakes, put the original parts on the Chameleon and sold it on. Built the Scandal up with the Pikes and a second hand reverb dropper and as a 29er it was a hoot.

Then….. as i was on the On-One mailing list the new Vandal titanium version of the Scandal came out, same geo, funky ti frame, i had to try it….. so far so good. never really missed the Chameleon, was a nice colour tho!

Something I have thought about too.
Here’s where I am. Still have a gravel bike with wide slightly flared drops and find them great apart from when quite far off road.

Built a Titus silkroad with Geoff bars and it didn’t feel good until I put a longer stem on (80mm).
Rides nicely but keep wondering what it would feel like with drops, so that’s probably the next step.
Regarding the corner bar option. The Surly bars are quite expensive but also very heavy. Like you Iv looked at Ali Ex copies but the carbon seems a bit dodgy to me!

Not a local, and not bike related,

Interesting WW11 crash site and memorial at the Fairy Lochs site above Gairloch, probably fine for family walk.

Iv had a look around on the site and the 75% discount seems to work on the wheels already in the sale section. That brought a pair of 27.5 wheels silver rims no black down to £37 limited choice of size and fee hub options though

Similar to above, I find the worst part of the journey the UK leg, once across the channel it feels more relaxed.
This is more noticeable on Sundays when HGV trucks are not permitted to drive on French motorways.

We set off from the Lake District for the tunnel, if we arrive early usually can get on an earlier train, then drive a few hours into France for a hotel overnight.

    Following morning onward to destination.

On the return we would usually try one big push from France to Zeebrugge for the overnight ferry to Hull, its more expensive but its a nicer way to finish off the trip and not much driving once off the boat in the UK.

With the Zeebrugge ferry no longer running it narrows your options, perhaps driving up to Rotterdam and sailing to Newcastle makes sense?

    @ Damascus

Not sure why an adventure bike doesn’t have a fork with 3 bolts for cargo cages?

I asked about forks before I bought the silkroad frame

    Here’s the reply from px

    Hope you’re well today,

The fork sold with the Whippet is a standard MTB fork, rather than the 3-bolt version sold with the Silk Road as a complete bike.

    Kind regards,

Fwiw I built mine up with GX parts and the Geoff bars. Really enjoying the bike.

Iv just built up a Titus Silk-road, these are available as drop bar or flat bar bikes, I couldn’t decide and in the end went for the on one Geoff (Jones copies) Id still quite like to try it on drops. I’m running 2.6 WTB Rangers on it at he moment and enjoying it.

As a side note I also have a Nukepoof Digger, its also a perfectly decent gravel bike its dunning 42mm tyres. Its faster on the tarmac bits but less comfortable when getting a bit further off road.
I guess it depends what most of your riding will be.

Cant find my tools, pretty sure I know who i loaned them to!

I bought the bushes from Mojo when they had the Fox stuff in the uk, for the 32mm stanchions there are 2 lengths of bushes for the top and bottom position in the lower legs.

They used to be about £20 for 4 bushes, but its a long time since Iv had Fox 32`s on a bike! I may still have some.

I cant comment on the Big Dog, but i really liked my Scandal, a great hardtail, and fine for bike packing. I added another strap on cage for a bit of extra load carrying.
rear tyre I was running a 2.35, sure there was room for larger.
I would have kept it if on-one hadnt had a big discount on the Ti Vandal frame

Hi I rented a bike when we were in Menorca a few years ago. There was a local shop had a deal with the hotel, they took the bike over along wit ha spare tube pump etc, it was inexpensive and a decent hardtail. I rode fro mthe hotel along the coastal path Cami de Cavalls first day south second day north. Id have to agree that some of it was like really sharp rock, I was amazed I didnt get a puncture. It was good fun but certainly kept me on m y toes. I wouldnt think that someone not that confident off road would enjoy it. I did find some really nice back roads and had a good spin through the countryside on those too.

    A few pics
