Fitted new bars to a Thomson stem. Took bike out for a test ride to dial in bar position and realised my multi tool didn’t have small enough Allen for stem – Grrr . Stupid tiny stem bolts on those Thomsons..

I just hold the brake line in my finger and thumb and whack the oil pin / barb with hammer. I’m an adept botcher.  Wouldn’t bother though if I wasn’t sure I had the correct barb, or olive for that matter.  Micro leaks are a real hassle.

Just fitted some PNW carbon Loam bars in 31.8 on my Rigid. Really impressed- talk about smooth !

The Evans local to me are super helpful –  they would definitely do small maintenance jobs .

I don’t understand why brush painting is less durable than spraying a frame.?  Maybe enamel isn’t a good choice?

I was hoping that sanding back between multiple coats of Primer,  Topcoat and Clearcoat with plenty of curing time would produce a pretty good finish..  My limited research into coach enamel seems to suggest it is self levelling thus brush marks would be kept to a minimum.

Oh yeah PTFE  tape – forgot about that. Might try that with a blade. Thanks.

The difference I was after was cosmetic. I notice there are a few different generic 5mm banjos that claim to fit Magura MT. However I’m not certain these would work.. Does anyone have experience with aftermarket banjos ?  And if so could these also fit the Hope Braided which is now 5mm .

I’m happy using a backpack. Deeply unpopular solution I acknowledge, however when you go ultralight then it works well IMO.

The trick is to not care and enjoy yourself. I’ve pitched up on a few occasions and been discovered by passers by in the morning and everyone was perfectly friendly. That’s not to say one shouldn’t aim for the stealth approach more that it’s not worth ruining a perfectly harmless adventure worrying about the odd grumpy pants.

I think it will end being a hassle. But I understand why you’d want to. Handlebar graphics are too often an abomination.

I gave up on Wifi calling as it has proven to be intermittent for me on EE contract even with a modern handset. I have better success with messaging apps  I use Siginal. Less than perfect, but a work around of sorts.

If I want to flirt with a pop of colour I’ll do it with the little bits such as top cap, Valves or brake caliper adapters etc. I actually like a mix of Black an Silver for everything else.  I don’t like everything to match too much – not when the whole bike is built up. I do like to match up Bottom Bracket, Headset and Seatclamp. And once it’s all carefully figured out I then like to dwell on what I could have been done differently!

Aku Pilgrim doesn’t leak. One of the best boots you can get. Not fully leather though.

200g quilt would afford the capacity to shake all the down to the topside and thus give a level of insulation approaching a 400g bag. As others have said with an insulated hoody as well you should be fine with the lighter option.

I could do a build so much nicer for 10k.

Yoshimura – yep they’re super nice. Watched a cool little YouTube vid showing the factory set up. I also like the Deity TMACs. My favourite are probably the Canfield Crampons – I’m not up for import duty plus shipping though. Those Pembree do look nice.
