Seen this happen a few times on King hubs. Not really any more so than other brands though. Evolution should sort you out but if they give you no joy then speak/email directly to Chris King in the states, usually they will bend over backwards to help.

Would be wanting more than 10% discount. Most shops will offer a 10% discount on frames and bikes with very little haggling. If they owe you then I would be looking at a trade price or at least 20% discount. Are the shop in question an official dealer of the frame you want or are they just able to get a hold of them? If they are a dealer then they will have a better margin than if they are simply able to buy the the frame.

Shop margin on a frame of your description is usually 20-30%.

If you do Edmundbyers/Blanchland then try and work Bolts Law into the loop as well.

    Nice build matt23 🙂

Personally I wouldn’t build a Nomad the way you have and yes the stem is too long for my liking but it’s NOT MY BIKE. Do with it what you will and enjoy it. I own a Nomad myself with 160 forks, 50mm stem, wide bars, bigger tyres etc, great bikes. Should you feel the need you can always change stuff. Don’t know if anyone remembers but some of the off the peg Nomads used to come with Pikes so i don’t see any problem with 150mm Fox.

Just enjoy it mate as i’m sure you will.

Sounds like a great idea Paul, when you thinking? Away this weekend for Sazs birthday but maybe the weekend after? Slow pootle is all i can do at the moment as my back is knackered again!

Nice glass of red or a bottle of something from the Wylam brewery (can bring you a couple of Wylam over sometime Paul).

Hamsterley has some great stuff but all the best bits are not way marked. The new stuff like section 13 and transmission are excellent but have been cut up by the harsh winter. If its been raining for any period of time probably best avoided as well. If you can get a local to show you around then its a great place to ride. Maybe try the trailblazers.

Fair point about the ratchet messiah, Bulb hub is the only hub i’ve ever had a ratchet replaced on.

Maybe just sell the bike and give the money to charity. Remember the 2 I built and we raffled them through the mountain bike forum Oxo? That was 2 bikes and it didn’t really raise that much. Guess it depends how big your audience is.

Pro II’s slightly easier to work on (changing the freehub bearings) in my opinion but the XC and the Bulb give me far less hassle in terms of bearing and pawl life. I own wheelsets with all 3 hubs. For what its worth I prefer the Bulbs of the 3, then XC hubs for XC wheelsets. Pro II’s still great hubs though especially if you go for the steel freehub body.

Depends on the frame. Some are a ball ache, others a piece of pish.

reggie – believe you bought those from me. The spacers were definitely on when i boxed them up. Which side is missing? I’ll sort you another one out.

No. Bulb disc side is larger than non disc side. Pro II are both the same size.

Tech 4’s here. Great brakes. Good power, great modulation, easy to bleed, spares easy to source. Ok, they are not the most powerful brakes i’ve tried but they are powerful enough, even for DH. Would have them any day over Avid junk, formula (very good but fiddly to bleed and very fragile). Shimano on my other bikes but prefer the hopes by far.

Have eaten at The Glentress Hotel before for evening meals. It’s very good indeed so hopefully that will transfer to the new cafe.

As for Alpine bikes, i’m sure they’ll do a good job but as i never use the Hub bike shop when i’m at GT then i don’t see myself using Alpine either. Good luck to them though.

+1 for the blackspire stinger. Simple, cheap and effective.

Loads of bands have made me go Wow but most recently have been blown away by Midlake and Oceansize.

Over the years, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Ozzy, Fishbone, Kings x (all in small venues have been awesome).

Special mention to Spiritualized, Arcade fire, Nick Cave and Elbow as well.

By the way Tn – Ramonez were pretty average when i saw them.

    No!!

£30-£40. We would charge £30 but £40 is not unreasonable. Anything more is just greedy and wrong.

hit the nail on the head Ton, its all bikes. Just enjoy.

Great thread BTW. Always interesting to see what makes people tick bike wise.

I work in a shop so don’t have a LBS other than where i work but if i didn’t work in a shop then the bike shop in Hexham would get my vote, not all that local but i would travel to use them, great little shop.

Hope you back up to speed soon Ton.

No real plans to buy anything new. The Stiffee, Flux, Nomad and Uncle John tick all my boxes. If i had to buy something then a down hill bike would be a welcome addition to the stable. Maybe a V10 or Intense M9 would be nice (not that i’d know what to do with them!).

Slightly slacker HA, coil loveliness and stiffer steering of the 36’s would be a winner in the alps. Don’t see any reason why you couldn’t run them in the UK as well, after all the Remedy came with lyriks or 36’s when it first came out, only the drive for a lighter do it all by Trek and the release of the scratch meant the following years bike came with the 150mm 32’s.

Only been to Les Gets, Morzine and Les Arcs but Les Arcs is by far the best if you want steep and rocky and not a lot of DH runs. A guide is needed to get the best out of the area though.

Would agree that it’s crap but great. Visuals and sound track make it worth seeing on the big screen, will probably seem very average on dvd. All the ladies look mighty fine as well, i’m in the Olivia Wilde camp 🙂

I thought Michael Sheens turn as the night club owner was very good, kind of Ziggy Stardust meets the Joker.

Have you seen Catfish? A rather good film out at the moment and a warning to all facebook users.

Ignore them i say unless of course you are a nosey bugger then accept them all.
