Looks good as it is. Keep it clean and simple. NO red or gold, always looks tacky in my opinion.

No one has mentioned Broon Troot yet, cracking bit of trail to squeeze into your loop.

Lovely job done sir. Wish I still had my 97 explosif, a lovely bike.

Stinger works really well. Got one with a seized bearing (been running it for 4 years) and it still works fine.

Open pro’s always a good choice. I’ve been looking at some WTB speed disc cross country rims as a cheap, slightly wider disc specific option for some CX wheels. Not really had any feedback on them though so unsure.

Specialized tyres like the Purgatory, Eskar, Captain in 2.2 are only £22.99 at Edinburgh bikes (maybe cheaper elsewhere, I haven’t looked). Not tried any of these tyres but they seem to get favourable reviews. All are tubeless ready as well.

I was at a Whyte bikes demo night ride a couple of weeks ago. Demo’d both the 120 and 146. I’m 5ft 11″ and the medium frame in both bikes felt best. Like rickon says though, it’s a personal thing.

Decent bike for the money. Frame and forks are pretty good. Kit is cheap but workman like. When it wears out just replace with something a little better. Nothing wrong with 8 speed either, does the job and cheap to replace. Only problems I can see are the sizing, only 3 available (52, 55, 58).

Decent price on some 150mm sektors at CRC. Out of stock at the moment but due in by the end of the month.

Sure it was up for sale in the classifieds. Lovely bit of kit.

Get something cheaper Lardlover. Loads of places in the North East to have fun on a CX.

What cardo says about the shrouds, forgot about that bit.

Inserts and olives (you’ll probably need new olives) are the same. You’ll also need some good cutters, a nice sharp blade and some patients to get the olives on the braided hose. A straight forward enough job though.

Another vote for the flux. Got pikes on my 4 bar version, run them at 130mm. A riot of a bike.

Maybe have a look here and ask advice from existing OU IT students.

The girlfriend is an OU student and cannot speak highly enough of the OU setup. Maybe have a look at her blog to get a feel for OU life.

Another big fan of the 2.35 minion here for trail use. The only tyre I ever use on the front. Grips well, rolls pretty well, doesn’t squirm in the gloop like the HR does, easy to set up tubeless even though the 2.35 doesn’t come in tubeless variety (please sort this maxxis!), relatively cheap as well. 2.5 minion is pretty heavy though. A great DH tyre but a bit too much for trail use. Maybe have a look at the 2.5 exo version, expensive though!

Watchmen, flawed but good. Well worth a watch. It’s got to be better than the comic book crap I’m watching at the moment, The Hulk. Started ok but has turned into a farce.

All of mine get ridden on a fairly regular basis, the girl friend however has a Kaffenback that NEVER gets used. Time to sell it I reckon.

Liking my 661 recon. Lightweight and comfy. Only 2 sizes though and a lot of people seem to be in between sizes, worth a look though. The straps being fixed to the side of the helmet is a nice touch as they don’t interfere with glasses.

Got 2 full sus here, a Santa Cruz Nomad and a Turner Flux. Both get ridden on a regular basis depending on the terrain being ridden. So the answer to your question is yes. Probably ride the Turner the most out of the two.

Great event and excellent course. Nice long stages with just the right amount of technical riding for an enduro. Agree that Cresta rode better on saturday. Stage 4 was a bit sketchy but great fun. Rain didn’t spoil it at all, if anything it made it more intetesting. I came 88th overall, 22nd in vets.

Did anyone go to the rave in the woods on saturday night?

Currently running a standard 2.35 SP steel bead Minion DHF as a tubeless tyre. Works ok set up tubeless with a couple of small bottles of stans fluid in with it.

Always been a clipped man using time free ride pedals and Oakley shoes until recently. Now its Five ten impact lows and Kona wah wah pedals. Loving the flats. Still a place for clips on epics but Five ten shoes have been a revelation.

We’ve sent a few back now. Turn around on all has been 48hrs. More worrying though is that some have been back more than once for same problem (failed seal at head).

My girlfriend rides a 16″ inbred with a long seatpost, she is 5ft 10″. Right on the limit I reckon. I would go 18″ for a 6 footer.

Running some u-turn pikes on my 4 bar flux. Generally set at 120mm. Seems spot on. Got some Reba 120 maxle to try courtesy of groundskeeperwilly. Reckon they should be perfect.

Great soundtrack by Eddie Veder as well.
