Ullock Pike – great but even better adding in Doups

You’re still the only person I’ve ever heard recommending this! :-)

Missus is due a new car, her wee 63 plate 500 has done her proud, but f me the new electric one is expensive. I need to look at how to fund, PCP, HP, loan, salary sacrifice…. I’m a bit old school in terms of car ownership, I really need to educate myself in the other options.

    Carn a’Mhaim and Macdui

Oaft, that’s a boulder field mission from Macdui down to the ridgeline, kudos!

@lowey you just hit share on flickr, and then copy the link that comes up, paste directly in here, no need to use IMG or anything.

Aye, I really should just fashion something, can’t be much to it. Thinking of sewing in some big magnets to attach to the roof, and mibbe a curtain rail for between the doors.

The disadvantage of having a relatively rare van (although it’s really just a kangoo) – when you look at the likes of VW caddies you can get allsorts of good aftermarket stuff.

    @jamesmio
has one too, dunno if he’s done anything as yet?.

Whiteless and Grisedale pike on the same ride, I’ve only ever done it via a howk up Gasgale gill, which isn’t to everyones tastes, but lets you ride the lovely singletrack by Rannerdale knotts.

Join the (admittedly very small!) club.

I got mine last July, had to train it down from Ayrshire to Cannock to pick it up, All I’ve done to it is basically as yourself, insulated, ply lined and carpeted. I’ve insulated and done the floor too, but I don’t really wanna put anything permanent in mine, as it’s used for allsorts, biking, kipping, tip runs, family car, changing after races etc. I got side windows tinted and fitted a set of transporter curtains too, great for sleeping in. I put a nice set of alloys on too, but kept them small to fit decent sized tyres.

I’ll post up pics later, though there’s not much to see.

Any chance of a pic of your awning, I’d like to do one, but haven’t got round to it yet.

I like the idea of a cassette type bed system, a double for me n the missus going away, and a single for when I take the bike, this guy is brilliant and has some really good wee ideas.

Beinn a Bhuird is alright, but over a bit quick and a bit tame. Worth a go if you’re in the area though.

In terms of riding with exposed views all round, it’s a belter, not really meaning as solely a descent.

    Longside edge surely?

Often referred to as Ullock pike, though I think you’re technically correct! :-)

    i made that comment.

And I don’t think anyone could criticise you for it, cos even the most fapperish of fappers could’ve predicted this shit off the back of it!*.

*MattOAA had a belter in the first Brexit post too! :-)

Whatever anyone’s views are on vaccinations this –

There’s been a psychological operation carried out on the British public by their own Government and unfortunately you’re a victim of that

    is utter drivel I’m afraid.

I’m in no way terrified of unvaccinated people, I’m pissed off living through restrictions to protect a healthcare system that’s on its arse due to a load of folk thinking they know better/it’s a conspiracy/they’re too young and fit/just plain ignorant.

Solar was definitely an upgrade, there’s a lot of differences over the original instinct – It looks like the new instinct due out is actually just an upgrade on the instinct, ie not solar.

don’t store too many activities on the device as that holds up Software auto updates

Interesting, I’ve never had issues, I’ll have a look.

I once took my Canyon a walk along these ridges, lovely day, but not much riding. :-)

Beinn Bharrain horseshoe on Arran has a very similar feel to NW fells in the lakes, I’ve only ever walked it, need to get the bike over

The software was shite on my old edge 500 and 520, but tbh none of the 4 garmin watches I’ve had since have ever given me any issues.

Apart from then many water bars, Bynack mor has great vistas, as does the route along to Macdui from Cairngorm end, though none of them are technically ‘ridges’, similarly Sgor gaioth right along the great moss to mullach clach a blair fits the views criteria.

Yeah, cos efficient load space gives you that phwoar feeling

lol, tbh I’ve never looked for phwoar in any of my cars, though I’ve never had an estate or a SUV. See how much phwoar you feel when you’re having to strip the bike doon to get it into said daft SUV.

Where are you, there could be someone on here nearby that will let you have a go of airshot or similar?.

I’m with you, I could actually just ride around the tops all day long before descending, said it many times while being up on NW fells out of Braithwaite, not even what you’d call proper ridges as such, but stunning panorama’s. Which is actually better for it then a techy ridge, as you lift your head and actually look.

So, really good allround views as opposed to ‘ridges’

    Beinn a bhuird
    Rhinns of Kells
    Yoke along to Thorthwaite crag
    Wandope onto Whiteless pike
    Grisedale pike
    Maiden moor onto cat bells

I’m sure more will come to me during the day

Some griping on the internet that’ll give them a tough Q1 financially

Not a chance, given the amount of kit they shift all over the world, it’ll have zero effect on them, because like the folk on here – they’ve lost nothing.

Estates boring? Surely SUVs are the epitome of dull, given the amount of them that look similar and have poor load space.

Millets actually having any I’d say, or – as I actually experienced myself from them, it’s not the solar version.

you think that a lot of those self same people would:
    – do an LFT, get a +ve result, and just chuck it in the bin.

You’re putting words in my mouth, please don’t do that, I never said any of that.

I’m merely saying that going from PCR system which is carried out officially, recorded and counted, to a LFT system that relies on everyone reporting it themselves, the numbers can only really go down.

    Is that difficult to understand?.

There’s people on this thread who don’t know the rules in full, and this has the advantage of some pretty shit hot people explaining stuff in laymans terms, to expect yer average Joe/Jo to report every positive case is, I think, not happening.

    Nobeerinthefridge
    Free Member

@gray, not paranoia at all, I don’t think that’s the point of it, but Kelvin is right, you’re taking away a cast iron way of counting positives, and relying on Joe public reporting.

Tbh it doesn’t really matter, as we go with trends, rather than numbers (which are estimated to be a fraction of positives in reality).

No offence taken, as I’m not suggesting any of that, merely pointing out that it will have an effect on the numbers.

    Nobeerinthefridge
    Free Member

    That won’t decrease the ‘numbers’

Yes, it will. Cases are based on PCR, not LTF, if theres less PCRs then the numbers will be less.

As often mentioned on hillwalking threads, a couple of spare pairs is more realistic than one pair that’ll do everything/keep dry and warm all day.

I haven’t seen updated figures but a couple of years ago the average amount paid for a bike in the UK was £350. When ebikes come down to that sort of cost, they’ll be mainstream. Until then they will remain the preserve of a wealthy minority.

Whilst I don’t think that’ll happen, tbf he’s quoting MTB whereas, and correct me if I’m wrong, you’re quoting cycling as a whole?. There is definitely a greater percentage of powered MTBs being sold, but nowhere near a majority mind.

    @Swavis
this is the essence of the 365 tbh for me, I’ve done the likes of Marcothon etc and I feel you always end up doing the bare minimum just to get through it, so it’s not exactly great from a training perspective.

The 365 allows me to have a rest day that still features walking a couple of miles, something I feel I should be doing anyway.

    Nobeerinthefridge

@mrb123 cool, I reckon that’s doable, We’ve got a daily mile route at work that we’re encouraged to do, even if I’m struggling from a big weekend in the mountains, a couple of those is easy enough.

Inspired by @mrb123 on the 100 days of christmas thread, I’m for 365 active days this year, which on the face of it sounds hard going, but in reality it’s just logging something every day. So even on the odd rest day, I’d always go at least a decent walk anyway.

Oh, and I’ve done the ultimate January cliche too, joined a gym at the worst possible time of year, with all the other desperados!. They do early morning sessions so I can go before work, and have a 24hr sauna and steam room, I’ll give it a month and see if I get bored. :-)
