You can do it online https://www.gov.uk/lasting-power-of-attorney for free.

The issue is probably who you get to do the certificate provision (Part B) it should really be someone who is familiar with the family and conversant with the 2005 Mental Capacity Act. This will normally be a solicitor or doctor who will charge for the privilege (my firm charges £50 plus VAT for each document and we are cheap).

The advantage of having someone advise on the process is that they will cover all of the necessary ground to assess capacity and therefore enable the certificate provision as a part of the advice process.

If yu have a look at http://www.lasting-powers.co.uk there is information that will help you decide what you need. If you want to use an advisor and are anywhere near Peterborough call the number on the site and I will talk you through how we can help.

I will be using discs and don’t like the idea of having a machined braking surface on the rim, I just think a disc specific rim looks better.

Talk to one person in the audience – not the same one the whole way through, pick out a number of likely characters at the start in different parts of the audience and alternate between them.

Always works for me, and I seem to have a good reputation for my presentations.

I am not, but my brother is an IFA, he employs two paraplanners.

The paraplanner role is very admin driven, basically you are preparing files for the IFA prior to him meeting with his clients and then doing the paperwork that flows from the meetings. From the outside looking in it seems quite dull and repetitive and there is a lot of attention to detail required to ensure compliance with a multitude of rules.

Having said that, as an apprenticeship for a role as an IFA it is probably one of the best routes to go, you get to understand the job from the ground up, and realise the true depth that goes into being a modern financial planner.

My brother loves being an IFA, dealing with his clients and their families really drives him and he believes that he offers a good service and adds value to their lives. He used to earn a lot of money, but the whole industry has changed, meaning that commissions are no longer the driver of income. You now get paid by the client through a fee model, as a result most IFA’s have seen their incomes fall substantially.

If you are good with people, don’t mind the exams and can cope with the regulation it’s a great job and there are opportunities to get on and build a career. The thing you need to consider above everything else is where are you going to get your clients from, new clients are hard to come by and can be fickle when you first start dealing with them.

    Hope this helps.

All things in moderation, they are OK if you go occasionally.

My youngest has just started college, and the thing I take issue with is the fact that there is a McD’s almost opposite the student entrance (I blame the council) and that they offer free chips with any burger to the students.

This makes them cheaper than the college canteen and as a consequence for the first two weeks my son had McD’s for lunch every day – he has only stopped because he noticed how lethargic he was in the afternoons.

I say stopped, because he tells me that he has, but I am sure that he gives in to peer pressure/ corporate marketing at least once a week.

Both parties have to sign to accept redress because acceptance of redress normally involves giving up ‘referral rights’ and future claims as part of a full and final settlement of the claim.

Joint mortgage, would mean a joint claim – you could bring it (assuming the mortgage was held jointly and severally) but if you were both covered any redress paid would be split 50/50 between you and the ex. The ex would have to sign at the end to accept the redress (assuming we were successful) so no chance of flying under the radar I’m afraid.

If the cover was just for you the benefit from any claim should go to you. Although we have had cases where an ex finds out and tries to claim a share.

As far as the redress goes, it would be a maximum of the monthly insurance premiums paid multiplied by the number of months paid plus statutory interest of 8% per annum. So it can add up.

There has been a financial conduct authority ruling on CPP relating to mis selling insurance on credit cards.http://www.fca.org.uk/news/consumer-redress-agreed-for-mis-sold-cpp-insurance
This is probably why you have received letters.

Critical illness cover is probably part of a life insurance policy. It’s only mis selling if they forced you to have it as a condition of the mortgage and you didn’t need it. If it was just a part of the advice and you took it up then you probably won’t have much of a claim.

I will own up to being a director of a claims company. We do PPI claims, but prefer to deal with pension and investment mis selling claims. If you really feel the need to use a claims company then my email is in my profile. http://Www.fairadvice.co.uk is our website.

The overriding rule in this type of thing is that if the claim you are making is over 6 years old. You need to be able to produce the original agreement to the lenders. If you can just fill in the ppi claim form on the company website (search Abbey / santander complaints) if you can’t then they don’t have to look at the complaint so you have little prospect of success.

Washed mine yesterday with non bio washing powder in the washing machine, came out lovely – washing was because my son had broken a bottle of beer in it when he used it last, then hidden it for a couple of weeks rather than fessing up it smelt rank pre washing.

They are not that clever. A couple of weeks ago I asked on here about a Microsoft Surface and did a bit of Googling. Sure enough the advert started to come up, so I clicked the link (you’re welcome STW least I could do) and bought one.

Ever since then the advert has been ever present, if they were really good they would know I already have one!!!

Because the Total Estate before the gift is less than the Inheritance Tax threshold (which is currently £325,000 for an individual, but may be transferable between a married couple giving an effective £650,000 on the second death) there will be no Inheritance Tax Issues in this case, unless they win the Lotto, Inherit or find some other way of accumulating assets over the threshold.

Even if they do then they still have an annual gifting allowance of £3,000 each (rolled up to £6000 in the first year of gifting) so assuming a gift of £15k to an individual it could be structured like this – £6k from mum, £6k from dad, wait until 6th April 2014 £3k from either mum or dad, all using annual exemptions so no IHT problems ever.

Family wealth planning in action right there.

OK- Disclaimer first, this is what I do for a living but I am not advertising.

About 2 years ago I served on an Advisory Panel for the Legal Services Board. Our brief was to look into the need for regulating the Will Writing Sector, part of that brief was to look at the quality of wills produced via the various channels.

The upshot was that Wills produced by Solicitors and professional Will Writers were good and dealt with an estate properly in about 90% of cases, Wills made online were good in about 30% of cases and home made wills had a 15% chance of getting it right.

The moral of the tale is get your will done professionally, we charge £180 for an Individual or £245 for a couple, and it is always money well spent.

E-mail in profile if you want to know more.

Last night he called Quintana and Martin in the off the front and lead 2km after they had been caught by the bunch and told the world Thor Hushovd had won the 2011 world championship in Australia. His commentary is frankly embarrassing, at least Duffers was funny when he got it wrong.

Perhaps niche is the wrong word, I am just trying to put together something that will last, be comfortable and easy to maintain but be a bit ‘bling’ at the same time. I have been hanging my nose over a Kinesis ATR Tripster frame for a few days, but was looking for other suggestions. My LBS said a Dawes Galaxy, but it just doesn’t inspire me.I have looked at the Tri cross but again it doesn’t hit the spot.

That’s quite a damming report. I need mine primarily for business use, presentations, filling in pdf’s, and showing video clips etc

Out of interest if they (microsoft) abandon it how long would they continue to support the Operating System.

Advertise Locally in the free sheets that drop through people’s doors. You need a small advert along the lines of –

    Dingabell Quality Tiling and Decorating
    *LIMITED DATES AVAILABLE IN SEPTEMBER*
Call Today 01234 567890 for availability
    FREE Quotations

By doing that you create what the advertising boys would call Urgency, The Impression that you are already busy without telling any lies (September dates are limited to 30 every year), and you include both a call to action – ‘Call today’ and the most important word in advertising – Free.

I have a friend who is a painter and decorator, he placed this exact advert locally for the first three months that he operated his business and has never advertised since as his clients recommend him to friends and reuse him again and again.

I have one of these –

    http://www.boots.com/en/Philips-HS8440-Nivea-For-Men-Electric-Shaver_951369/

It is great and has recently been appropriated by my 16 year old son as it’s easy to use and doesn’t burn his skin. Back to wet shaves for me though.

If they were over 6 years ago you will need the original loan agreements to have any chance of success, inside 6 years then deal direct with the lender.

If you know where to look and fit the criteria, people are desperate to get you into something big new and shiny.

    Audi Q5? – suit you sir http://www.contracthireandleasing.com/car-leasing-companies/independent-brokers/all-vehicle-contracts/audi/q5/16306319/

And all for less than the cost of the depreciation if you bought it for cash.
