I have had mine for three years now and it is pretty much perfect for the riding you describe.

Just about to set off on the C2C for the second time on it and it does a good job even when loaded up with kit.

A quick click on the power button seems to disable the shuffle feature when listening to music. Not sure if it works with movies though.

Quite mainstream, but I had a couple of bottles of Ruddles County last night, always hits the spot.

Generally Speaking they work if they are right for you. However they are not right for everyone.

Firstly – you are giving up ownership of your home in exchange for a lifetime interest in possession. Lots of people don’t want to do this.

Secondly – If you have a mortgage on your property you can’t do it, as the lenders would technically have lent money to someone secured on an asset that they no longer own – lenders don’t like that.

Thirdly – There is the question of forseeability of care, if you make this transfer whilst care is reasonably forseeable then you have committed an act of deliberate deprivation and this can/ would be set aside by the local authority. So if you have had any type of diagnosis of a degenerative nature then you are too late.

Then you have to look at the CRAG Rules (Charging for Residential Accommodation Guidelines) which local authorities abide by, as you might just find that your assets are disregarded for the calculations anyway.

If you do this you will need to redo your Will and put in Place Lasting Powers of Attorney so it can all get quite pricey.

So why doesn’t everyone have one – not many fit the criteria or need one. If it is right for you then it’s great, but you need a very detailed conversation with someone who knows what the are doing.

We do maybe one or two per month but see ten times that amount who are interested but not suitable.

E-mail in profile if you need anything more.

Normal Disclaimer First – I write wills for a living. Not touting for business just a few thoughts.

Firstly make sure those close to you are suitably catered for with an amount of money that will make them remember what you did for them without necessarily changing their lives.

Then pass the remainder into the ‘Tandem Jeremy Charitable Trust’ this means that you don’t have to decide now which charity cops the money, you can set out broad objectives and your Trustees will deal with the distribution after your death. You provide a letter of wishes that gives them guidance on what you want the money to achieve and they use their discretion to achieve this.

The trustees can also claim gift aid on their distributions (subject to limits) so your money goes a lot further.

Tandem Jeremy lives on and continues to do good, trustees can make sure the right organisations benefit.

It is less complex and expensive than you think to put this sort of arrangement into place.

    Nick.

P.S. In my opinion the Donkey Sanctuary has enough money, give it to some of the mental health charities instead.

Firstly, Sorry to hear about your loss.

Secondly, don’t touch ITC with a bargepole they are VERY expensive and their initial quote is very rarely what you end up paying.

Thirdly, I will declare an interest – I am a Will Writer and Probate Practitioner.

So, for a small estate it is perfectly possible to do things for yourself. If the estate is under £5,000 you will not need to apply for probate, if the estate is between £5,000 and £20,000 you (as executor) can normally sign a disclaimer with the banks and they will transfer assets into your mum’s name.

Remember that any assets that were held in joint names between mum and dad will normally pass automatically to mum by what is known as survivorship. This will normally include the family home if it was owned jointly.

Bottom line is that every case is different but for a married couple on first death with everything passing to the survivor £3K is ridiculous, we recently did a similar case for £200 plus VAT (admittedly very simple). I would stick my neck out and say most people in your circumstances can manage it yourself.

Check my website http://www.myinheritance.co.uk for my phone number and give me a call for an informal chat.

Spent an enjoyable day with some friends on 2nd January, we had not seen them socially for nearly five years. The reason they were running a small restaurant in a very upmarket town. Always busy fully booked every weekend, they were working 12 hours a day 7 days a week just to break even. The only reason that they were able to get out with some sanity intact was that they eventually found someone to take over the lease on the restaurant. Over the time they owned it they survived – just, had no social life, holidays or significant time off and they both encountered significant stress related health problems.

As an outsider looking in you would have said that they were successful and probably making a mint out of it.

They also said that everyone that they knew doing the same thing was in a similar situation.

It’s a nice dream but a rotten reality.

We were going through some photo’s last night as it is my parents 50th anniversary. Came across me as a teenager in a full skin suit ready to do my first time trial.

Over the 30+ intervening years I have always been a cyclist – sometimes not riding much, sometimes riding loads. I am 46 now would look very silly in a skin suit but in my heart I know that in another 30 years I will still be a cyclist.

You either are or you’re not – simple.

46 now so running out of time –

    On the Bike

    Raid Pyrenean (2012)
Race Across America (2014 treat for my 50th)
LEJOG (need to sneak this in whilst my Mrs isn’t looking – she knows about the other two)

    Off the Bike

    Visit Australia/ New Zeeland
Visit South America (Rio in particular)

If I can fit that into the next four years I will be a happy bunny.

I use scansoft pdf pro – if I print each sheet individually but use the same filename it gives me the option to append to existing file.

It's a bit of a ballache but gets there in the end.

    Hope this helps

    Terrible – don't touch with a bargepole.

They came out to my boiler just before the winter last year, found that the foam seal was leaking. Because the part was not on their database they condemned the boiler, and so that I couldn't relight it they disabled (snapped off) the thermo coupler (i think that is what it was called).

Ten mins after they left I had ordered the new part (genuine) off e-bay for £3.99 and booked a local gas engineer to fit it. When he arrived it turned out that the new thermo coupler that they had deliberatly broken cost ten times the amount of the seal. I complained to BG and got no reply other than as the part was unavailable they had no option but to condemn the boiler and take the action that they did.

Needless to say I no longer deal with BG.

    Ok,

Firstly let me declare an interest – I am a Will Writer (not a solicitor).

Broadly speaking you Will falls into four parts.

The people involved, You are the Testator, you need between one and four executors, as you have a minor child you will need to appoint guardian(s) if both of the child's natural parents die, and of course the beneficiaries (your daughter). If you die executors look after the money for the benefit of the child, guardians look after the child. They can be the same person.

Part two is what you have and who you would like it to go to. Sometimes simple sometimes can be more complex but it is always worth taking advice.

Part Three is your funeral wishes. Not nice to think about but your will is the appropriate place to detail them.

Part four centres around taxation and the risk to you estate from inheritance tax, care home fees (I know you are too young at the moment) and the like.

My website has more details http://myinheritance.co.uk/ttc.aspx

I know a number of really good people round the country who can help you with this for not much money. Email me via my website and I can put you in touch with someone.

I am raising money for London to Paris with Action Medical Research, we did a quiz night this weekend.

Got the local village hall – no charge as it was for charity, bought two cases of beer, some wine and some strongbow which we gave away in exchange for a donation of a pound a can or a fiver for a bottle of wine (obviously we did not sell the wine and beer as that would have been against the law)

About thirty people turned up did small raffle as well as the quiz and raised just over three hundred quid after expenses.

It was a great night and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We had tried to go down the find a pub who will give us a room for free but route nobody seemed interested.

Diamond Necklace and Earrings – that's what I got for my Mrs from Hatton garden. She mentions it every time she wears them and that was six years ago.

Six years of brownie points and still counting makes them a good investment.

    She got me a Kayak!

It may not have been the hardest challenge ever, but watching Davina after getting off her bike on the first night having ridden through the highlands at -15c with ice in her hair gave me a bit more respect for the 'Celebs'

-15c on your bike is proper cold – I would have stayed on the bus.
