Just crappy fixies .. thrown together from bits of old campy and some rusty old bob jackson frame no doubt .. There's about a million of them being ridden round by fashionista nobs here in london.

cool, thanks for the input andrew.. I'll be putting it on a HT with pretty mega mud-clearance (wide stays) but I assume (never a safe idea!) the duo ring/spider sits closer to the arms (so further from the CS) that a granny mounted to a triple spider would (?)

I'd take that offer .. they don't often go over that unless they're blinged-up with titec ti bar / m952 stuff. But yours is an uncommon colour.

You still have the goofy kona curve cranks on and the forks are missing the decals – 550 is good

nice bike, these ride really well for their weight… make full use of the U-turn – the bike was designed around the versatility of the fork

I don't know anyone who could (or even would) "afford a rohloff" !!

If you're used to gears, SS is going to feel odd .. but just select a gear that you feel comfortable pushing a long out-the-saddle climb on and you'll be 'reet. If you like to ride 'seated' and with efficient cadence then no SS ain't for you.

I tend not to pedal much on the downs, like to sprint the climbs and ride the bike like a BMX .. ie. pedal in hard bursts.. so SS suits me fine.. although I wouldn't want to do a 30+ mile ride/race SS

Even the very lightest steel race frames of yore (bontrager/ibis mojo)still clock in at 4.5lbs ish so 5lb aint so bad for a 'proper' trail bike.

Is there a quoted weight for the wanga?

    IIRC the p7 frame weighs 6 lbs + !!

Middleburn uno seems like a obvious choice if you don't mind going 'old-skool' on your BB (although it'll last 100 times longer than some 'devised in California' External crap)

Or go m952/boone for proper bling

Salsa do a nice wide flatty .. but curiously.. only in the lengths you req. in their OS version … maybe a 25.4 in that width flexes too much??

yup. plenty of people have done this .. it's generally "called" a B9er / B9'r

    for example ..

    http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=515130

Having riden a few 69ers and not quite gelled wiv' em .. i think the b9er addresses the 69ers flaws .. and is a betterer idea. Although still not ideal for short arses like moi.. I'm stinking with dual 650B

Are spare chainrings (beltrings?) available or are you stuck with what you have … ?

When I build an SS .. I usually play with cog/front ring combos to get the best ratio for the bike's purpose .. It would be a PITA if you didnt like your ratio and couldnt even change it!

Although the 650B movement (excuse the pun) is mainly stateside, in the UK we are blessed with a slew of 'compatible' frames.

How so? – Well the main requirement for fitting 650B into a 26" frame is clearance .. as long as your frame has clearance for 2.5" 26" wheels you should be able to (comfortably) fit 2.0-2.35 650B wheels/tyres. And the UK – being the mud-pit that it is has spawned a generation of mud-friendly (thus 650B friendly) bikes.

The new pipedream sirius r853 is a good un' for 650B wheels … as is the Orange p7, The Cotic Bfe, The Surly 1×1 .. and lots more waiting to be brought to light.

Is it me or does anyone else wonder what motivates people to start these particularly inane threads? Really, I haven't a clue what you are going on about.

Thread created, distinctly tongue-in-cheek .. sorry you missed the irony.
