The law is a business like any other – there to turn a profit at the end of the day. Plenty of mediocrity and game playing about – sadly I see it all the time . Some of the bigger city/magic circle type firms make a marketing ploy of community involvement and pro-bono type work so you may be better looking there.

treated my steel frames with that ‘frame keeper’ spray which seems to be the same as waxoil.

Do Skyline, Excalabor and South pit alone are better than all the other worn out bits on W2 and the final is great. A good afternoons ride.

Sure its an NNR? Not that many to the north of Swansea. You can check the CCW web site for all sorts protected areas. I sometimes ride a nature reserve near to home (Glais) thats just north of Swansea but go just on quiet evenings in the week.

parts of whites level are closed for treefelling and there was a lot of fallen timber on the rest recently. brechfa was fine a few weeks back but not sure about fallen timber after the high wind the other weekend.

Below is the reply from Cognation re the prposed wind farm and Skyline – all is not lost.

    Dear James

    Thank you for your query.

It is now no longer envisaged at this stage that Skyline will close during the construction of the windfarm, due to changes to the number of wind turbines.

However, as part of the Section 106 Planning Agreement, Vattenfall, the developer, is required to provide a new mountain bike trail prior to construction to compensate for any potential disruption to Skyline.

Forestry Commission Wales is currently designing this trail on behalf of Vattenfall and this trail will be submitted to the Local Authority for agreement in the near future.

This will mean that mountain bikers will hugely benefit from the windfarm development, with the additional challenging trail.

We will continue to update http://www.afanforestpark.co.uk with information surrounding the development of the trails. Therefore, keep an eye on this site for news of what is happening when and information surrounding any temporary diversions/closures.

    Kind regards

    Lisa

i’m never sure why skyline gets such a slagging off. my favorite trail at Afan or anywhere local and excaliber and south pit best bits of trail at Afan full stop.

there won’t much left worth doing at afan by the time this lot get through and the country around afan may not be the lakes or n.wales but it is not a lunar landscape either and it certainly won’t be improved by these eyesores. shame.

@kaesae – sent an email to Cognation (s.wales l.a. mtb hub) asking the same question.

@ all of you above – any of you live in the afan valley or in any of the s.wales valleys for that matter.

This won’t be another trail for Afan at all: say bye bye to Whites Level and to Skyline – might get a replacement trail in goodnes knows how many years time – look at what a fist the useless to**ers at the FC and NPTC have made of things like Penheyd (spelling) back in 12 months they said but now gone for ever.

Skyline is one of my favorite days out on the mtb and it will be sad to see it lost for good.

In case you didn’t know coal stopped quite some time ago in the area – sit at the top of the runway on skyline on a sunny evening and look down the valleys – a great view.

well, windy point on whites lived up to it name but well worth the effort. not sure why the goodwood section is closed – no forestry works at all (hopped over the barrier as figured noone would be working sunday pm in that weather).

a 9 speed xt rear mech (med cage) will def work with 10 speed 105 sti type shifters – have it on my gryphon but in 1×10 flavour (11/36 out back). xt 10 speed rear mech and same shifter won’t work as i found the expensive way!!

I don’t think you can really compare the Kinder Trespass and those who took part in it at that period in history to the current day – I think it’s slightly offensive to make the comparison. A hoard of beer bellied middle class ‘me me me’ types isn’t going to gain much public sympathy – there wouldn’t a car park big enough in the Peak to cope with all the Audis!

you are being harsh. theres more to brechfa than the gorlech though this is a good trail. i would agree some bits are getting chopped up, especially before the berms where people gib out and lock everything up.

I have a decade virsa and am on my third frame in two years. i now have the beefed up version with a thicker seat tube (the previous two frames cracked on the seat tubes) and bigger head tube. its a great frame to ride with 100 or 120 mm forks but i would say the build quality and finish of the frame are a bit pants i.e. the seat tube is a sloppy fit (decent easton seat post) so the post creeps down and the paint chips even if you look at it funny. a shame and i kind of wish i had bought something else.
