    horrible, please get rid !!!!!

thought we’d been hacked at first

speaking as someone with Epilepsy I’d rather not look at that everytime I view a post

    Spud,

I did Whitehaven to Sunderland in a day last year.

if you want any advice just give us a shout, couple of months training and you’l be fine. Biggest tip i can give is plenty of long training rides to get used to riding almost all day

    cheers

next up for me is Welsh Ride Thing (is that an “event” ?)

not sure on this year’s SSUK, dependant on cost

would like to do SITS but would need to find some similar slow/fat knacker team mates (paging Rusty!)

luckily losing that match means we no longer have to call ourselves “no. 1 in the world” anymore

“surprised how many don’t even try to ride it”

why does it always look easy from the bottom!

fantastic event… snow, mulled wine and a brass band should be renamed “The Xmas Hit the North” !

massive thank you to all the organisers, marshalls and people who helped push the cars out

thanks to Rusty for arranging the post ride curry, it was nice to meet a few peeps. I’m sure WCA mentioned that he organised an event but I didn’t quite catch the name of it. 😉 Sorry I had to dash off and not go on to the 2nd pub but I needed to attempt to get home.

    Roll on next year…

    Harry,

I’ve got a bit of time to kill before the curry so providing I’ve not got hypothermia I’ll happily lend a hand tiding up the course.

was thinking of doing it on the SS but as my mud tyres are on the alfine HT and I can’t be arsed swapping them I’ll take that instead. It’s a lot heavier but as I expect to be “discussing tactics” with Ton while drinking coffee for part of the race it wont make that much difference!

not sure a “What clothes to wear” thread is just as appropriate ?

I’ve got 3 year old twins and I sometimes take them the 15 minute route to school in their Burly.

I know its wrong but i ride (slowly/courteously) on the pavement because they say they don’t like being on the road with cars.

I’ve always wondered how people with epilepsy manage to ride on single track through wooded areas in sunlight, specially on a fast downhill – the strobe effect sometimes does my head in ! Seriously – how do you manage ?

ernie_lynch, flashing lights is only one of many triggers when it comes to seizures. i have no issues with it and i remember speaking to my doctor who said it was actually quite low in terms of effecting people. if i remember correctly only about 15-20% of people with epilepsy were effected by flashing lights. the main factors are stress, sleep and alcohol but unfortunately it is very difficult to pin point exact triggers 100%

    hi gd

i’m 41 and have had epilepsy since about 10 mostly grand mal although some peti-mal.

i see a specialist at walton hospital and he does not see it as a problem. Personally my triggers are stress and lack of sleep, I use my own judgment regarding sleep before a ride and if I’ve had enough and make sure I take my meds but he says that cycling like many forms of exercise are great ways of the body handling stress. His opinion was that I shouldn’t cycle alone and to always wear a helmet but I like most people get a warning first so should it happen then I have time to prepare myself.

I always tell the people I’m with in advance and give them the option of not riding should they feel uncomfortable or not know what to do.

My consultant also reckons that in a small group I am the least likely to cause a problem because statistically there is always someone with a heart problem (undetected) or asthma who is more of a potential issue.

I am by no means a decent rider at any level but I don’t let it hold me back and enjoy social riding as well as events such as sits, mm, ss events and the odd merida. I just make sure I tell the first aiders my condition and my race number. I’m also about to go on my first bivi in a week or so and am looking forward to that.

If you want a chat no probs just drop me a line I think my email is in my profile if not just respond to this thread

Hope everything sorts itself out and make sure you get back out on a bike.

    cheers

great event, different approach with hiding the bikes by colour !

loved the mini-bike race and tug of war

2 very minor quibbles, not sure if 5 loos were enough and also had to leave earlyish on the sunday and the catering boys were still asleep so no breakfast (not great for an "ample sized" rider).

    roll on next year…

how long do you expect a lap to take? (for a fat middle aged rigid ss'er)

been off work sick all week with a nasty virus, currently in a team of 3 and and have told the other two that they'll be riding on their own but i'll still be coming and i'm sure i'll want to do a lap even if i walk most of it.

got twin girls aged 2 years

deffo join TAMBA (twins and multiple births assoc)

you get loads of info and discount at certain shops, it only costs £30 per year and i think we saved £50 on our buggy (Babby Jogger) so we were £20 "up already" !

make sure you ask about multiple birth specific ante natal classes, ones aimed at singletons as not much use in my opinion.

don't be too proud/afraid to ask for help, we tried to do too much ourself and in hindsight it caused us a few problems further down the line

14 nappy changes a day at first sounds a lot but you'll soon get used to it !!!!!

    hi thwapy,

do they have to be brand new? i've got a set of 2008 Fox 32 Float RLC 140mm travel forks for a QR front wheel, post mount brake mount, steerer length : 213mm
colour : silver (weighing in at around 1820g-ish).

can supply photos if interested, just pm me or post a reply

despite being a 2008 model it has had light use (probably about half a dozen times)

these are great forks but they are just gathering dust in the garage
genuine reason for sale; an unwanted project as bought in preparation for getting a 456 frame myself but have since gone for something less “beefy”.

    great weekend…

really enjoyed the saturday ride although not too keen and that climb after the first pub.

i reckon the course was the best man made trail i’ve ridden

top marks for the organisers even arranging the weather !
