You're doing absolutely fine. What you're feeling is completely normal, your mind is also going through the healing process, and so these thoughts are part of that process.

Vocalising your thoughts are good for the soul, and help you to make sense of where you're at right now.

Mark, there's a few of us that live in the South-east, and I'm sure we'd all happily drive down to ride out with you :o)

My Real name predictably brought up:

My username brought up nothing but all of my post on STW, and if I put a space before 7890 I get 4 pages of tractors!

Mmm not exactly a professional thing to do, slightly odd to directly insult your forum members/supporters.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

A feed from "The Company" should be exactly that, professional.

Having been put in Hospital a couple of times by jumpers (and not the woolly kind 😆 ) I would say absolutely. But, without the full license plate they've little chance of catching up with the driver.

Well, I think I've decided on a trailer (after spending time trying to talk myself out of it and realising it's a trailer I want).

I've found a Bob Ibex http://www.bobgear.com/trailers/trailer.php?product_id=11 2nd hand for sale.
They want £150 for it. Sounds reasonable? as they're around £400 new.

I think I am leaning towards a trailer as I'd probably have to build up another rear wheel for panniers, plus I can just unhitch the trailer and I'm back to the bike I know and love if I decided to do a circular route on trickier stuff.

The price seems to be fairly similar, once I add up the price of racks & bags against a trailer.

The major downside I can see with a trailer is the issue of transporting the bike+trailer on trains or planes.

I thought Burn after reading was a rollocking good yarn (but to be fair I love ALL the Coen Brothers movies)

    Also, In Bruges, another classic!

I don't think there aren't any drybags better/ stronger than Ortlieb (there are some here that'll probably now see that statement as a challenge! 😆 )

There are many pros and cons with panniers and a trailer, but I read one and think "that's for me", then read the other, and think the same!!! 🙄

Diliberately run down, shattering my collarbone in June 08…..
    POSTED 2 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST
What the hell? Not to be a noisy bugger but any more info as sounds nasty.

I was riding to work (around 06:30) at a fair old pace, and overtook a bus parked up along a 3 lane road.
The driver (100 yds behind) accelerated at me, leaning on his horn and screaming at me through his windscreen.
I gave him the V's, clearly the wrong thing to do, when I was around the bus I looed back to see him cutting across the
    3 lanes straight at me!

He hit me, I hit the curb, he then drove off as fast as he could.

I never got his details, but luckily a passenger getting off the bus lived next to where
it happened. So he called the Police, Ambulance etc; but also didn't get the driver's details 😡

Diliberately run down, shattering my collarbone in June 08, not diagnosed as a non-union until November. Plated & pinned but found the screws pulling out of the bone this spring.
Just had the plate & screws removed so waiting for the all-clear from the Consultant.

TThere are those that will go on and on about GI foods, and complex carbs, and keeping your heart-rate around 60% for the maximum fat burning range,

Cut down on the Alcohol and extend your daily ride.

    Simple advice really.

Carbon manufacturers seem unable to agree on whether they should be greased or dry! 🙄
    T
There are a number of articles though, from non-bike arenas, that conclude that a lubricant is a good idea between materials. I would say use carbon paste, and remove the seatpost, clean it and relube every couple of months.

Funnily enough, I'm looking at spending some of my insurance claim money on a training course.

I'd expect the course to be recognised by the bike industry to help me get a job/ run a shop.

I'd expect no more than 8 people in the class.

I'd like the opportunity buy tools, at a discount, from the course.

Cost-wise, I don't think 100 pound per day is unreasonable.

I've been comparing the courses out there, and these are my top 3, in order of preference:

United Bicycle Institute – Oregon, USA (includes how to run a shop)

Barnett Bicycle Institute – Colorado, USA

Cytech – Has the benefit of being in this country, but is no cheaper than travelling to the US for the 2 above.

There is no way plumbing should ever be live regardless of the equipment plugged in, foobar'd or not.

Before you do anything else, get an Electrician in to take a look at your house wiring.

The company HAVE agreed a contract to buy a certain amount of new machinery. They haven't been delivered (or necessarily all built) yet. They aren't the wrong machines, and as far as coping with British conditions, we allow virtually any shape letter to be posted without question; from some no larger than the stamp itself (I've seen plenty of those), through triangular up to brooms, flowers, live insects and blood.

The machine's are going through trials to ensure they ARE right before RM pays the company the money to deliver them.

I think the car industry is a good analogy, as there are still large sections of the business that handle mail manually, and because of that, compared to automation, costly.

There is a large percentage of middle managers that have come through the ranks via nepotism or "do you fancy having a go". There is little or no formal management training for them, and as such they have some very poor/ antiquated practices.

The reason the business is in dire straits, is that we ARE seeing the volumes of mail posted by the general public dropping, and other direct mailing companies (junk mail) are allowed to use our system at a massively reduced cost (roughly 13p per letter).
Also RM took a 13 year holiday from paying into the pension fund (note the employees weren't given that option) because it was told by the tax man that it would be fined if it didn't reduce the size of its pot, and now we find ourselves with a 12 Billion pound pension hole!

I've worked for Royal Mail for 21 years.
In brief, Royal Mail is buying a lot of new sorting machinery, and threatening to close a number of sorting offices (but not saying which), resulting in a potentially large reduction in staff.
This driven in by managers who are ineffective and untrained at dealing with this kind of transformation, and so implementing it badly.

There's a good "what to do" here:

    http://www.londonfgss.com/thread4213.html

In a nutshell, try and find witnesses, visit the hospital to get checked over, report it to the Police, take photos of any injury and/or damage, contact a decent lawyer.
Keep reciepts of any expense you've had because of the accident, plus any time you've had to have help from friends and family because you could carry out a task (shopping, housework, bathing etc)

As far as lawyer's go, I've used http://www.bikeline.co.uk/ a couple of times and had fantastic service, I've also heard good things about the CTC.

Good luck with the recovery mate, I'm just coming back from being (deliberately) mown down 18 months ago!
