    alternative energy/microgeneration specification and installation.

Accredited installer in solar thermal, solar PV, biomass boilers etc etc. If the RHI legislation comes out as well as it should there should be quite the growth in experienced installers required. Basic plumbing skills as a base and then an appreciation for the subtlety of the new system which for some reason most plumbers seem unable to do…

Now, as a disillusioned Engineer, I'm interested in that.
Where should I look for respected training & qualifications?

Some odd comments. I have 2 merino tops now (from ground effect) and they beat my man-made stuff hands down.

I didn't get on with Generation Kill, I only watched the first 3 episodes but just thought none of the characters had any redeeming qualities that I could route for (just wanted to see the locals give em a spanking).

    How about Shameless?

I went back to work in November, and have started riding (with a courier bag) daily last week.

I was told that the bone should be as strong as the other within a week of the surgery, but it was still very uncomfortable trying to carry a bag across it.

Take it easy now, and get the proper advice, you'll know when it feels right to use it in anger.

Edit: TomCrow, I had similar feelings with the plate in, wearing a rucksack would trap the skin betwen it and the plate.
The plate is only there to provide scaffolding to allow the bone to reconnect and heal. Once that's happened it's surplus to requirements, as the healed break will actually be stronger than the rest of the bone.

I had a very localised pain about 9 months after having mine plated. It turned out to be the screws starting to pull out of the bone. We then elected to remove the plate and screws, as they'd done their job of scaffolding.
I would go see you Dr and asked to be refered for an xray to see what's going on.

Another vote here for Marathon Plus' and just treat the increased weight/resistance as extra training.

    Certainly not Raceface.

Shimano XT M770 looks favourite at the mo – fairly regular looking, but (from reports I'm reading) relatively bombproof.

I hear regular complaints about how "dreadful" the iPhone's battery is. I can easily get a full days use out of mine.

I think the difficulty people have with it is understanding that although it is a very capable phone (it honestly is), it has as much in common with a netbook/laptop as a regular phone and I wouldn't expect to get any more than 8 hours use from my Laptop without occasionally plugging it into the mains.

As with all technology, from phone's to cars, battery technology is holding them all back at the moment.

I think Jeremy has hit the nail on the head. Like most things, you buy the thing that best serves your needs.
Since owning my previous phone (HTC Touch), my top 3 must haves on a phone are Internet browsing, texting, and voice calls, in that order.

I'm fully paid up, proud embracing member of the geek club, and love gadgets that allow me to do all of the stuff I enjoy doing, when I want to do them 😀

I don't think there's a single phone's alarm that works when it's turned completely off, so this is hardly a singular flaw of the iPhone, plus what does a "normal phone" do that the iPhone doesn't? It has contacts, a keypad to dial a number not stored, voicemail …the whole gamut!

and I ask again, what is it a regular mp3 player does that the iPhone doesn't?

    Again, not true.
Don't get all your information from hearsay, rumour, wikipedia or the Daily Mail!

When OFF, not just in flight mode?

    Gotcha.

Well, that's like saying my video/sky+ etc, won't record my favourite tv show when I turn it off.

The iPhone is effectively a mini-pc, not "just" a phone. It's more like a mini-pc. Have the haters never watched a video clip or played a game on their computer, or do they have an Internet browsing device, a video player, a games machine and an emailer+ for each individual task?!

Apparently iphones' alarms don't work when off?!! Is this true??!!
How long were you going to leave it before admitting this??!

If you try to use it as an mp3 player, it will run out of batteries within about an hour.

    Absolute nonsense!

The iPhone does exactly what a regular, stand-alone mp3 player does. It also does everything a regular mobile phone does.

If you're going to try and put up a valid argument, at least try and use some kind of fact in there 🙄
