You need some 20mm thru axle end caps – look at the instructions for Cobalts, its in there. Download from their website. Contact 2Pure see if they can get some.

If you are using Cobalt wheels, how come you haven’t died. That’s what they tell you here, at least that’s what they told me. Love my Champagne wheels.

Seems to me they are just trying to confirm the possible cause of the problem and are dealing with it in a reasonable way. This procedure is used because of people wrecking their stuff and trying to claim under warranty. But no-one on here does that of course 😉

I use the Park PCS10 above, I tried a cheaper one (about £60) in an LBS and decided the saving wasn’t worth it. The Park is rock solid but is a little heavy (which is why its rock solid, of course). The Amazon price is good, I paid about £20 more last year.

Have a look somewhere like Pauls Cycles where they offload previous models. I got the wife last year a 2011 Giant Arete with RS air fork and XT reduced from £850 to £450. Really nice bike and she loves it.

Not jealous at all 🙁 jammy bugger!

    Lovely bike though.

Ditched the 110mm stem on my Anthem long ago.

Oh and thanks for the suggestions of Charlie the bikemonger and Velosolo – duly bookmarked. Any others out there?

I like the colours of this, let’s see a built pic when you’re done!

It may be some time before I finish building this, having spent many oodles of moneys on bike parts over the last few months on upgrades for my Giant Anthem and Mongoose. Her indoors thinks that stuff for the house has a higher priority. 🙁 I had to tell her about this as she’ll not miss it when it comes, its hard to camouflage. So the rest of the build will be a gradual process as and when I can sneak parts in!

you’re never gonna lose that in the snow

This was one of my major concerns. 😉

Where do you put the brake?

    Rear only, caliper.

Clipless pedals better than flats for SS.

That may well be the case but I don’t do clipless.

This will be a flatland fun bike, I don’t have the fitness levels for serious singlespeed use. It will mostly be used for cycle path use around Cardiff, I have other bikes for other stuff. I’m building it coz I can!

    Some manufacturers BS:

The perfect cross between a commuter and trick bike. It features a slightly raised BB and lowered top tube lowered making this frame easy to ride and fly. For 2013 we revised chainstays shape to fit your favourite fat tyres (now up to 45c size).
The Analog has many of the features that we used to make the lightest dirt jumping frames on the market: the Majesty and Suburban. You will get an oval machined head tube for weight saving, with a campy style headset standard, a totally unique high-end tube-set with offset multi butting, 100% cromoly tubing made by Tange and what’s most important, trick specific geometry.

HAha I just liked the colour 🙂

Gethin Park, Merthyr will be the one to beat when it is completed this autumn. I can’t wait, it’s only 15 mins away for me.

I’ve been a fan of the Black Keys since 2002 when their first CD came out, got everything they’ve done and seen them many times. For me there is no-one like the Keys, they’re on their own.

Surely that’s not the point, the bike shop should be doing that!

I think your LBS is feeding you BS. I’ve never seen 3-4mm variation in chainline during one rev. If its that wobbly now what’ll it be like in a couple of years. Vero chainset is budget but I wouldn’t expect that.

The joint half way down the head tube looks questionable to me, wonder how it would stand up. The Renovo ones look better thought out and finished. Not that I’m interested of course. The guy wants to raise 100,000 euro to get them into production. Good luck to him on that.

Well according to my scales at home the FOSS tubes are 80gr for the MTB size tubes

I stand corrected, I guess Deal extreme quote weight in packing which is not what we want to see. Anyway……

For the money the Deore 596’s are the best thing on the market.

My first thought when seeing these was they look like heat shrink tubing I have in my electronics workshop. Then I read this on their site:

The Eclipse bicycle tube R1825 is NOT suitable in combination with carbon rims ! The heat during braking can burst the inner tube!

    Hmmm…. 😉

Not a lot to say about cassettes really. Generally the more you spend the lighter they are. Is £20 worth it to save a few grams, functionality will be similar. I went for XT to match the full XT setup I upgraded to on one bike but I also have the SLX on another bike – works fine.

Just change the fluid and bleed correctly. But these brakes are an old design and won’t be as good as new brakes and they are not well known for their reliability. TBH in your position I would spend the £90 but not on a service – buy a set of new Deore 596, they will be far superior.

Having used shadow plus recently on one bike, I’m looking to change all bikes to shadow plus in time. As mentioned above its nice to have a quiet drivetrain. As for SLX its good stuff now and is making XT very nervous.

Take a look at the spec on those Foss ones – 182g it says, so not the same thing.

    Why?

What do you mean why? Its my personal experience and opinion which appears not agree with yours but is equally valid. C’est la vie. Hope stuff doesn’t usually get good reviews in MBUK and What MB but does in other magazines. Their brakes made the Dirt hot 100, I know who I’d rather believe. Usage over dodgy science.

Those bikeradar figures are nonsense crap. There is no way that Elixir 3s, Deore 596s are more powerful than Tech Evo X2s and I speak from experience of all 3. I’d take the Tech Evo’s anytime. But then I take all MBUK and What MB reviews with a pinch of salt.

I presume you mean the Eclipse ultralight tubes. Nothing new here, been around for a few years now. No I havent tried them, there’s something about a £45 price tag that makes me run away.

I’d give it to you if I could, but its on ebay, so bid cheapskate!

Got a Kore carbon post on my Anthem. Not noticed any appreciable difference in feel other than a 100g weight loss. Probably not really worth it – I just like carbon. 😀

Common problem with the damping cartridges on Judys. I’ve got a pair of super condition Judy XLCs here with a blown cartridge. I can’t bring myself to bin them so any answers would interest me too.

OK, not exactly complying with the thread as I do own one now, but it took 18 years!

Back in 1994/5 I was getting into mountain biking and reading magazines. Full sus had been around for a couple of years but a lot of them were ungainly boat anchors. Saw the Mongoose Amplifier in a mag and read about Brian Lopes and Leigh Donovan’s winning escapades on a similar bike and decided I wanted one. I never did as the frames were so expensive at the time.

Track to last summer and I happened to see an Amplifier 2 frame for sale on fleabay and won it cheaply. It was built up using some bits I had hanging around, a mixture of old and new so not historically accurate but built how I wanted. Pleased to own that frame after all those years.
